We rented e bikes to ride on the ski hill. They had just got their ebike in and had to put them together for us. Happy to do it. Even put together an extra one for me so I had two choices of bikes. They let us do a have day instead of a whole day . They let us keep a change of clothes there. They we so helpful and friendly. We will definitely do that again. So much fun and they made it easy. Fantastic outdoors supply store located in the middle of Leavenworth town proper. We came here to buy a couple of fuel cannisters prior to our Enchantments over night trek. Absolutely an upstanding crew of staff members who were so helpful and friendly. They were so keen on accepting our used cannisters for recycling following the closure to our backcountry trip. They have all the gear you'll need prior to setting out on your adventures too. Not only did we pick up the aforementioned fuel cannisters, but we did grab a handy, minimalist map of the Enchantments before our trek (for $16, however). Then following, we did eye some beautiful trucker hats with an artistic rendition of Prusik Peak. They close at 6pm and are closed on Sundays, so do bare this in mind in case you are relying on them for a pre-backcountry supply run. Loved the folks here at DER SPORTSMANN! read more

No line to rent xcountry skis, which was nice, however the guy gave me 2 Right boots! Didn't notice until I got back to our rental to go skiing and bummer- can't go until I drive back, find parking (yuck) and exchange the boot. To add insult to injury, the curly-haired guy who handed me 2 right boots asks "didn't you try them on?!" (No, because my feet are the same size...Why would I need to try on both boots?) Instead of being snarky though I just asked if I could please get a discount for having to come back- like a second days' free rental. You can guess by this posting how he answered. They are lucky they're the only place around anymore to rent skis. read more

Very rude got accused and inappropriately profiled for Shoplifting! So I had some tackle and I went up stairs to look at some jackets and I tried on a couple but never got one anyway I accidentally left the tackle I was going to buy upstairs and came back downstairs then the guy working there said "Hey where's that tackle you brought up stairs?" And I said oh my bad I left it up stairs let me go grab it and I'll pay for it he came upstairs with me and said "I feel like you have stolen stuff from here a couple times" and I said no I think your mistaken then he said "yea I think your gonna have to leave the store immediately" like are you fucking kidding me right now and then he said "also don't even think about ever coming back again or I will call the police" again very rude and unacceptable I don't recommend coming here at all! read more

Stopped in for some needed supplies during a camping trip after talking to the staff on the phone. I spent 45 minutes on the road to get to the shop, and as I walked up at 6:05 PM they locked the door and told me they were closed. Upon my first few steps into the store, I wasn't really sure this store was for me. Lots of hunting and fishing gear up front - neither activity I have much interest in. Keep going - oh hey, clearance section on winter hats. 40% off floor model Nordic sweaters. Wandering around I found several interesting books, a whole wall full of hiking shoes and boots, a larger clearance section upstairs and a cute wool hat. Hmmm- maybe this place does have a few things for me after all. The staff was knowledgeable and kind with questions. They genuinely seemed to enjoy chatting with the customers about historical Nordic sweater designs, best snowshoeing near town, rain gear, etc. I heard all kinds of topical snippets as I moved about the store. In the end, we found a few new items to add to the proverbial wishlist. For him, we did buy a heavy field and stream flannel that was marked down about $20. He goes through shirts like this so fast it seems. So when we find a nice flannel shirt like this at almost half price? Sold! read more

What a great store with amazing staff! Nice products for all your outdoor needs. We were in town for a few days and my friend purchased a pair of snow boots from this store. The staff was incredibly helpful. While we were leaving, my husband saw a hat in the window that he liked. We came back later to purchase it but couldn't find it. Used Der Sportsmann to rent 2 sets of snow shoes. They advertise that they open at 9, but when I arrived at 9 the doors were locked and lights were off. I called and waited until about 9:15 and there was still no one around. Finally by 9:40 someone answered the phone. Rentals were super easy to arrange, minus the fact that hey didn't have any poles available. I believe the rentals were $18 each and lasted for about 6 hours. This is a phenomenal store, with specific areas for all major sports, from mountaineering to biking to hiking to golfing to camping to fishing and more. I've seen sporting items I couldn't recognize, so I know they're pretty sport-specific (hey, I did a Danskin triathlon a few years back and my kids are involved in various team sports and track, so I know of the basic equipment in many sports). I was impressed by the selection and the expertise of staff here, as I overheard a few conversations as I browsed the store. My kids liked the rain jackets and sports apparel which was pricey but of high quality. The only issue I have with this store is all the dead, stuffed animals on the wall. If taxidermy is your thing, you'll love all the deer heads and elk and the mountain lion. I realize lots of folks hunt and hunting is considered a sport, but I personally don't care to look at dead animals. And the display really, really bothered my youngest kid. I was looking for lightweight, weatherproof/waterproof/insulated boots to wear on my cold weather road trip. Walked into Der Sportsmann and a very knowledgeable young man showed the boots he knew would be perfect. He was right! My feet were toaster streudel warm all day long! My Family and I go to Leavenworth about 4 times a year, and every time my intentions are to avoid this place. But since it's one of the only shops that has outdoor gear I always stop in. And every time it's the worst service of all the stores. It's almost a guarantee that you will receive no help since the workers are typically chatting it up with friends or hitting on a girl. I usually go in to buy a few bench made knives and sunglasses, I literally plan on spending over $500. Yet I can stand right in front of a worker and stare at him and be completely ignored. This time I chose to quit starting and found another worker, when I did he seemed uninterested and called over "Jake" (I think) who was the same employee who was too busy talking to help. I'm done, it's cheaper online anyways. We wonder why stores are closing and I say this is why; poor customer service, better just to shop online. read more

Bought a pair of Olukai's here. Wore them for half a day and a wear spot on my foot started to bother me. Some plastic under the strap was sticking out and only after wearing them does it become noticeable. I purchased them yesterday and went back to the store with my receipt. They refused to do anything or offer any help. "You need to go to Olukai" was their response. This is frustrating. I have not had a store refuse to make an exchange (wasn't asking to return....even just the left flip flop) on a clothing item that had a defect. read more

I went here while visiting Leavenworth for the weekend in a desperate attempt to find some kind of sweatpant/yoga pant, basically anything comfortable since I came down with the flu as soon as we got there. We went to every clothing store in the town with no luck before coming here. You'd think in a sporting goods store you could find some yoga pants or some sort of athletic pant, no luck. Luckily they had some men's sweatpants in size XXL for $15 I settled for, boy was a I looker in those. The sales people were helpful, but they lack much variety. read more

This past weekend I wanted a bike and although they didn't have my size, I ordered a bike from Jordan and will have it in a couple weeks. Eventhough I live in Seattle where bike stores are abundant, I get a better price and more personalized service from der Sportsman. Went in tonight looking for a non-icing spray for my "rubber" bottom X-C skis. I couldn't remember exactly what it was called so I explained what I was looking for as best as I could. They looked through what they had and didn't have it. I said that was okay but the two gentlemen who helped me wanted to at least get me a name of what it was called so they went on the internet and found it, then they called another local ski/bike shop who happen to have some in stock. They gave me directions and I went on my way and bought what I needed. The customer service provided by der Sportsman was way beyond what I expected! They truly are customer service oriented! Very helpful and nice staff. Prices were very decent compared to Seattle sale prices. I needed to get boots while in town and thought i was going to have to pay out the nose for them. Surprisingly I got them for under $100 and they were perfect. Selection is small but good enough if you are in need. Has a 30 day return policy for the store and I couldn't return my flip flops that were giving me blisters everywhere the day after I bought them. While I tried to return them the guy stuttered knowing I should be able to return my $80 flip flops and said sorry I can't put those sandals back on the wall after you've worn them, how in the hell was I suppose to know the shoes would give me blisters if I didn't wear them????? Make sure you walk around ALOT in the store with whatever you buy there cause the 30 day return policy is bullshit. read more
