I tried 8 different flavors, but still felt there was so much to explore. Holländer: Very creamy! It was basically like a nicely flavored ball of cream rolled in toasted almonds. Himbeer Torte: Loved the fresh raspberry overload. A great rush of sweet and tart. Though the texture was a little odd, kinda like Jell-O in cake form. Oberlaa Kurbad Torte: Many thin layers of cake alternating with thin layers of cream. Tasted kinda chocolatey and kinda caramelly. And it was delicious! Sacher Torte: Finally tried the famous sacher torte. To be honest, it kinda just tastes like a dense chocolate cake. The apricot jam layer is very thin, so you barely taste it against the rich chocolate. Kardinal Schnitte: Perhaps the most memorable cake I tried. It was so light and fluffy. Felt like clouds of meringue surrounding a light cream. Also, had a very subtle light taste. Maroni-Obers Torte: Lots of nice sweet chestnut paste alongside fluffy cake. Quite yummy. Topfen-Frucht Torte: A few layers of sweet and tart fruit and then some layers that reminded me of cheesecake. Trüffel Torte: It was in the same format was the Oberlaa Kurbad Torte with many alternating layers of cake and cream. Except this one was all chocolate. And, honestly, I liked it more than the Sacher Torte.

A lovely neighborhood cafe with a nice setting, friendly staff, and tasty beer…read more I only met a friend for a drink there, so I can't fully comment on the menu, but my experience was a positive one. They have some nice niche beers available (not just Ottakringer from the tap) including a refreshing Lammsbrau. They have a bunch of wooden tables and chairs in front of the cafe, letting you enjoy the fresh air and the ambiance of the best part of Josefstadt, with its cobblestone street, rustic street lamps, and the magnificent Piaristenkirche at the end of the block. My friend tried one of their galettes (with ham and goat cheese) and the small bite that I tasted was amazing and enough to convince me to come back for brunch very soon!

Please find the full review on www.yummiechic.com!…read more Café der Provinz! Probably one of my top 10 places to be in Vienna and definitely an insider tip! Mismatched, renewed wooden furniture, handmade tables, vintage carafes, walls covered with posters of festivals, exhibitions and films, lovely lamps decorated with different vintage fabrics, old shipdeck floor... I was amazed by this bohemian, shabby chic look! You pass into the next room through two marble counters, where you can either take a look at how your "galette´´ is made or how your espresso is prepared; shortly front cooking. At the back of the crêperie, there is a huge corner with shelves decorated with organic tea-varieties, soaps, cups, bags or many different literature, art books (even children´s books) which you can buy or just read there if you have forgotten yours and they are also published by Verlag der Provinz. You can even order a table, literally!! :D It sounds weird but true! Because of the reason that there were so many people willing to buy the handmade tables in the cafe, they decided to sell them with cooperation of Theater an der Josefstadt. Another interesting thing, which you could do here would be registering yourself for a scything course. Also in summer the crêperie turns into a great sidewalk cafe where you can sit outside and have conversation with your homie for hours or where you can have some privacy moment with your favourite book, or you can just relax with some great house wine or enjoy the dinner, the choice is yours! :D Their speciality is Galette; a norman-breton speciality which belongs to north west region of France; Brittany and Normandy. I guess you surely are familiar with it because of its relatives like crepes or pancakes. But this one is different! The thing which makes Galette unique is that it is always made of buck wheat and an egg topping and here would definitely be the place in Vienna, if you would ever like to taste some galettes! They are all organic; it means they are all made with buck wheat, spelt and soy milk which are 100% organic agricultural products. Also if you prefer to eat some desert, then you can choose from many Crepes or Waffles with maple syrup, chocolate and fruits, bio marmalade or even with chestnut creme. Although the dishes are prepared with organic products, time to time it can happen that your galette seem to be a bit dry. There is also a wide variety of tea; from self-created herbal tea blend to non-mixed herbal/ fruit / green or black tea, they got almost everything.:) If you are a coffee junkie, you can find grain coffee which is a better version of a usual one. Also organic wine is offered, even cidre. Be prepared to wait for awhile, till your order gets served. Like the cafe itself, the waiters are also chilled and sometimes ignorant, a little bit, but that´s ok for viennese conditions :) Especially during weekend it can get so crowded, that the staff can be overwhelmed by many customers. All in all it is a very quite, warm place where you can feel yourself at home. Time passing till the first drink was served; 7 mins 34 secs the first meal was served; 16 mins 46 secs Price Main course (incl. drinks) appr. : 13 Euro Yummie Chic´s Order For Vegetarians; Galette Tata with feta cheese, tomato, mint with an egg topping For those who prefer meat; Galette Saumon with salmon, cheese, dill und onions with an egg topping Yummie Chic´s Advice Better come for lunch (from 12:00 till 15:00) on a workday, you can have salad or soup for the same price. Don´t go there during rush hours as the brunch on weekends (overcrowded, slow service, limited choice and overpriced, no orders accepted on a la carte) Keep in mind - Cash Only - Non-smoking / For smokers there are two windowseats outside - WLAN available - For allergic people; Coffee is also served with soy milk. www.cafederprovinz.at Find the review on www.yummiechic.com

One thing my wife and daughter wanted to do in Vienna was to try the local cake, the Sachertorte…read more There are a few apparently famous venues for this (and a slew of other places too). Gerstner is a long-standing bakery with a few locations (including at the former summer palace). They had a shop relatively near our hotel, so we stopped in early during the trip. If you are facing the State Opera House, Gerstner's is on the right across the street. Note that there is also some as or more famous outlet for cakes behind the Opera House also, but they appeared to have a line when we walked by. At Gerstner's you enter at street level where they have a dessert counter with displays. You can get a slice to go here. However, if you want more of the full experience, you can go upstairs (they have an elevator as well). A wide curving staircase gets you to the rather small 2nd level (the first floor, in local parlance). There are some tables here, but it has the air of a bookstore coffee shop. We opted to continue up to the next floor. Here, there is a dark hallway where you approach the host stand. There was one couple ahead of us and they got seated quickly. I think they had a bar as well as dining, so they ask which you want. We just wanted dessert, so they walked us past the bar. This floor has high ceilings and palace-like decoration. The vibe is definitely 'special' but they don't charge extortionate rates for it, which was nice. We were shown to a small table in the main dining room. I think you could see part of the Opera House out of the open windows. Two of us got coffees and we all split a Sachertorte. We enjoyed it, but everyone agreed that it was a bit dry. Maybe the Viennese don't go for moist cakes. They do have other items on the menu and I think you can get a regular meal here (schnitzel, salads, etc.). However, we visited around 2:30 p.m. on a weekday, so we just wanted the cake. The bill was reasonable, and we all agreed that this was a worthwhile experience.

The building is very elegant and classical, really enjoyed the atmosphere as walking in, we sat down at a corner next to the window and could not wait to try out the coffee and pastries here. We got Cafe Central Kafee and Maria Therasia for coffee and shared one Viennese Apple Strudel. The coffee is so smooth and with the added liquor, the fragrance is amazing!!! No question, this is the BEST Apple strudel I've tasted, crunchy texture for the outside crust and the filling is full of fruity flavors. We spent about a bit more than an hour there and that was the most relaxing, appreciating and beautiful moment among this Europe trip.

Hmm a little torn on this review since I only came for breakfast one day, and didn't get to try…read moretheir pastries, however felt like the experience was pretty mediocre. Well known for being a beautiful and historic cafe established 1876 frequented by the likes of famous names like Trotsky and Freud, this traditional Viennese coffeehouse and cafe is a popular tourist destination. Having walked by around 7:30pm the prior evening and seeing a line of about 15 people outside, the next morning arriving around 9am the line was about 15 minutes without reservations. Upon entering the inside is beautiful, cavernous domed ceilings, chandeliers and a very classic bistro vibe. Enough seating for probably 150 customers, quite large inside, and about two-thirds full. That's when I realized the line outside was more for show, which at some places I get because staffing might be hard and they want to ramp up the pacing between breakfast and lunch services. In a place like this it seems more like a marketing technique to create hype, which kinda annoyed me--it's not respectful of customers' time. It took a while maybe 10 minutes for a staff member to pass menus, then another 10 minutes for him to come back and check in. What I'll say is he was swift to answer our questions and knew the menu well. In general service felt lacking though, after eating it took quite a long time to get our server's attention again to get the check. For breakfast I was a little surprised by the prices for the food offered, on the high side. While the vegan spreads were very good, from the menu it wasn't clear that it was actually vegan cream cheese that was the base of the spreads. Unfortunately the rest of the food was meh, €14.50 for a small croissant (not especially good), a plain roll, a boiled egg and latte, with a pat of butter and jam. Would I come back? Maybe to try a couple of their baked pastries and dessert, but not for breakfast. For more info: https://cafecentral.wien/en/
