The first thing I noticed about Deolali was how smart the décor was. The restaurant is huge inside, the opposite of what I expected when I walked in. It was like a TARDIS, one that serves curry and doesn't care about interplanetary crimes committed over different points in time.
Yes, Deolali certainly looks the part and with an extensive wine menu certainly has the goods, but what about the taste? I was excited when I was sat down by the waiter as I could smell the spices and flavours in the air, already my senses were reaching full capacity.
There was only one thing for it, I ordered the Madras and my girlfriend had the fish curry. We were only planning on a quick meal so didn't go for the starters of dessert. I did however enjoy the pints of Kingfisher that were served to me.
And the service was exceptional, this could be to do with the fact that the restaurant was fairly empty, but the staff did seem to know what they were doing. Throughout the meal we were being asked how everything was etc. It was a good practice, on that I admire in high quality restaurants.
The food was very good, however my curry didn't contain enough sauce. The same could be said for my girlfriend's meal which was also lacking in sauce, despite her fish being tender and succulent.
All in all this is a good restaurant, serving quality Indian food at competitive prices. The restaurant oozes class and would be great for large parties of people. read more
