We patronised Rupali for an early Father's Day meal after rave reviews by family members who live in Coventry. Whenever we return to the UK, we tend to go for Indian curries here as there are many pretty good curry places around. We had high hopes for Rupali that wasn't exactly met judging by the lukewarm reception to the curries that some people had at the end of their meals.
Medium hot curries were not hot at all, and more appropriately categorised as mild. The award winning sylheti jalfrezi was not terribly flavoursome. There were a few good dishes including the tikka capsilla and briyani. Drinks were also quite limited with not many actual Indian options.
The service was excellent as to be expected in a fancier location with a nice ambience. It was, however, very slow. Our food took about an hour to arrive, but when it did arrive, it arrived altogether. Prices are also higher at between £8 to £13 for curries on their own and £2 to £4 for rice or bread.
On the whole, it was a satisfactory meal but I wasn't inclined to go back given that we paid above £20 per person with drinks and before tips. For that price, I'd expect a little more than satisfactory. I've had better experiences and curries in Coventry than Rupali for less. If one was looking for a posher place for celebration or a date though, this is a nice curry place to impress people. read more
