She has always been very responsive to my panicked calls (when is it not an urgent call, when your tiny baby is sick, even if it's "normal"?) She has also welcomed my questions/hesitations when it comes to some Western medicine norms, and she always offers holistic and research-based advice/thoughts/diagnoses. She even met me on a Saturday (not office hours) to give my girl the last of her three-day antibiotic shots for an ugly ear infection. Personally, she diagnosed and has helped treat issues I've had for years -- that a counselor, midwife, dermatologist, and naturopath didn't catch. While it is a younger and smaller practice, I'm definitely willing to overlook a less-than-friendly receptionist who answered the phone a few times or confusion with paperwork. The care and professionalism we've received when it really counts is invaluable to me. Update (Feb 2018): she no longer has a frazzled receptionist. Leslie is always kind, warm, and welcoming! :)

Yet it was a complete let down from the moment I called to make an appointment. It was hard to get in, the woman on the phone was rude and not helpful and then my appointment was not scheduled correctly. Dr. Shelly was not any more impressive. Unfortunately, she was very impersonal, did offer a natural and holistic approach I was looking for and rushed me out of her office. I'll keep looking for someone that will offer me more than 15 minutes of their time. I wasted a $30 copay on 15 useless minutes.

I have sent several people over to Brave Embodiment because I trust the interactions and support there are compassionate, dedicated, and above all else, ethically sound in practice. Therapy very much varies from individual to individual, just as every therapist varies in their background, skills, and expertise. While not every therapist-client relationship is meant to be or should be, I know Brave Embodiment Counseling will support clients in the direction they would be best supported - be it within their organization or another organization better suited to help a client. If you're looking for a team that combines skill, compassion, and integrity, Brave Counseling is the place to go. I can't recommend them enough!

All the negative reviews. It's pretty hypocritical for someone to claim to empower women but then actively harm and silence them. Anyhow, here is my original review: My therapist, Lindsay Fahey, terminated me after I expressed a minor concern about her behavior, citing transference. This exacerbated my trauma surrounding being abandoned and punished for advocating for myself. Her actions after I brought up the initial concern were hurtful, inappropriate, and unethical. For instance: * dismissing and insulting my trauma and concerns by calling it "baggage" * making an inappropriate comment about being in a romantic relationship with me * acting as if she knew me better than I know myself, like when I said I was scared but she decided I was actually angry * calling my natural hair "disheveled" * retaliating against me because she assumed a comment I made about a personal loss over the weekend was about her * violating my privacy when she pretended to still be my therapist (after she had terminated me) so she could get my protected healthcare information from my other healthcare provider * falsifying my medical records to say that I had terminated the relationship once she found out I had filed a complaint with DORA due to the privacy violation All of this caused me significant distress, set back my therapeutic process, and compounded the trauma she was supposed to be helping with. And my response to her reply: I believe that someone who acts unethically and inappropriately isn't a good fit for anyone, Kim. But it's clearly a modus operandi for you. As you well know--and as I know from reading Lindsay's notes--Lindsay met with you about terminating me before ever meeting with me about my concern. She never intended to resolve any issues. She made that undoubtedly clear when I asked her why we couldn't work through this and she said, "I've tried to work through client concerns many times before, and it never gets better."

I'm also absolutely blown away each time by the amazing services this place offers. Infrared sauna is private and quiet, almost like a sensory deprivation on top of the benefits of infrared. The PEMF is so fancy high to the point where the world looks brighter after. I've been looking for neuro feedback for a while and finally found it here with NeurOptimal, after which my thoughts are clearer. The decor is clean and spacious and just super cute with fur blankies and tea and a cozy but modern atmosphere. I've been burnt out on medical appointments in general but I look forward to coming here because it really is a recovery lounge. Park is across the street which is a nice break from the city. The staff might be some of the kindest people I've met.

So far I am 4 or so sessions in, but what an amazing difference! Allison was able to diagnose some "flaws" in the way I use various parts of my body for movement in the first session. Beyond the actual session she was able to give me some easy tips to continue working on that have made an incredible difference in how I feel and move. I literally need to make simple adjustments to how I sit or walk and immediately I notice a difference. As an aside, after reading the reviews I was a bit nervous that her technique was NOT painful. Everything I read was about how rolfing solved problems through painful manipulation. I wondered if, since her's was a less painful method, it would still be effective. A+ for Allison - I am just impressed by how she interacts with my body and solves some years long problems with simple adjustments to how I think about movement and again her (mostly) pain free body interactions. If you experience re-occurring body aches or know your body needs to be better balanced, give Allison a call!
