This is exactly what a great event photographer should do. You didn't come to this review for 'event photographer' theory though did you? You came because life is good. Life is so good you want someone to photograph it, to memorialize it for the rest of time so you can always remember how good it was. But your good life is not just you and your best friends smiling your camera smiles in some stock pose. The photographer we hired from Selah, Jackie, gets well beyond that stuff and manages to capture some essence of what's important, unique, and timeless in the situation. So why listen to me? Because I hired a different company to take my photos the first time and was disappointed with the results. This gives me a standard of comparison (which is more than most people get.) Kari has a very easy, very open way about her and is open to all ideas and thoughts about the shoot. Like most women, I have some "problem areas" I was hoping to hide and she listened attentively to my concerns and then gave me a few suggestions as to how we could work around them while still achieving the results I was looking for. She takes an active interest in helping to plan the shoot, as well as ensuring that my needs were met. During the shoot, I felt very comfortable and at ease with her. My shoot was a boudoir shoot, so I was in various stages of disrobed throughout, and she was respectful, unobtrusive, and patient. Many times I had ideas as we were shooting and she listened fully, then made my ideas happen. For the most part she let me "do my thing" and shot photos as she saw fit, and kept a quiet but keen presence. I appreciated that, as sometimes I feel the constant talking and direction-giving of other photographers can be overwhelming and take away from the experience. The results? Absolutely stunning. I don't consider myself terribly photogenic but when I saw the final results I was floored! I loved every image. I could tell how much time and care went into not only taking the photo but also in the post-processing, resulting in gorgeous images that I could be proud of. When I received my images, she even offered to process/change anything I didn't like about the images I received so that I'd be ultimately happy with the finished product (no changes were needed! They were beautiful as is). I found that to be a really personal touch, and it showed me that she's willing to go above and beyond to make sure that her subjects are completely satisfied with their shoot. I also had the pleasure of doing a more professional shoot with Kari. Again, she maintained her easy professionalism throughout and the results? Just as impressive as my more personal shoot. She certainly has an artist's eye and knows how to deliver images that capture the feel of any situation. One of these days, we will do another shoot. And I'm confident that the results of this next shoot will be just as good as the first two. (And incase you're wondering, yes, the photo on my profile was the result of one of our shoots :)

She was very quiet as she snapped away, allowing the chemistry between my and my girlfriend to develop naturally. After a while I mostly forgot she was there. I will admit that as an amateur model, I had moments of extreme self-consciousness where I wondered if I was "doing it right." But I couldn't have been more pleased with the result! We received maybe 20 or so photos and they all were outstanding. And I really appreciated how she focused all of her editing attention on only the best shots. Weeding though a thousand photos with one's girlfriend can be daunting task and I was happy not to have to do it.
