I want to share my experience with PDS (Dentists for Special Needs): I'm going to file a complaint with DDD as they have been awful. Even though they receive DDD funding, none of them seemed to have been trained in Article 9. They treat my son, myself and several nurses who have brought him very badly. My son is 26 and has Duchenne MD as well as Autism. It's always been hard to brush his teeth as he doesn't let you in there. He's never had a cavity and we do the best we can. We get deep cleanings every few years to stay on top of it and are very diligent at home. They always want to "teach me how to brush". Super insulting. They also threatened gas twice if he didn't open up for a cleaning when his chart explains he has 5% lung capacity and gas would collapse a lung and kill him. When I say twice, I mean they did it AGAIN after I reviewed with a manager, she apologized and said she would reeducate the dentist; went ack and the dentist did it again. We have explained the last few times we were there that he is now on hospice so although his teeth are very important, we need to keep things in perspective. After telling them this, they proceeded to tell him if he doesn't let people in to clean, he will get gum disease and they will need to start pulling teeth. They told my son this! First off, although he has gingivitis we need to stay on top of, he is NO where near having to have teeth pulled. Not to mention, we had just explained, he's not going to be around long enough for this to be an issue and they still threatened him with gas and pulling teeth because he was being difficult to clean even after explaining our situation. I just wanted to share because It traumatized myself, my son and his nurse. My son is still upset and talking about it- days later. read more

Dentist schedule seminar on dates she has patients that were scheduled months in advance then office calls you and lie saying the appt was for 6am when it was 12pm ask to speak to manager who later admitted that the Dentist was taking day off., when called out on the lie she tried to gloss over it!!! If they lie about simple stuff then what kind of office is this ethically? No need for lies! read more

I'm with those that had a horrible experience there. I think the office manager is responsible if the quality and treatment of clients has gone down from earlier days. After a scheduling mixup that frustrated me because my son has difficulty waiting, I decided to leave and reschedule later. The office manager called me to come back saying they wanted to try to accommodate me. But she really just wanted to get in my face about expressing my frustraction with the mixup. Which was not about them, but about the potential risks of my son in that situation. Absolutely no understanding or empathy. And so vindictive to lie to get me back there under the guise of help just so she could be rude to us. I grabbed my son and left again. RUN!!! Go to Dental on Central. They actually try to help for real. And they don't make incompetent scheduling errors. read more

WOW!!! Just WOW! This place is heaven sent. I'm so happy to know that a place like this caters to special needs people. The place is geared up to serve special needs. A place where the employees wait till the patient is ready & they are so patient. Dr. David & Michelle went about & beyond to care for a 3 year old little boy. They played with him, interacted & went to a level that the 3 year old was so comfortable. If you know someone or a family that is looking for a dental office for their special needs child or family member....this is the place to go!!!!! I cannot stress enough how great the team is here! My 2 year old daughter has been waiting since September 2023 for an appointment to have her teeth capped under anesthesia it is currently March 2024. We were referred to this office due to my daughter's age and insurance. I have called every month asking when my daughter's procedure will be scheduled to no avail. The receptionist advised me that there was nothing that could be done because they are waiting on the anesthesiologist schedule (again it's been 6 months). read more

They couldn't even be bothered to call me back to schedule an appointment for my two kids with autism despite me having already provided all the insurance info to the lady who answered the phone. I was hung up on after being placed on hold while she "looked for an opening" nobody even answered when I called back or even returned day vm. I gave them benefits of the doubt that maybe they were busy but till this day nobody contacted me back and I've seen similar reviews that their office etiquette/front desk is horrible. Will never recommend this I even called my mom and told her to forgot about this place because I told her about it for my aunt with Down syndrome. Don't fall for the "special needs" gimmick there are plenty for offices that have patience for people with special needs that will treat you with value and respect read more

If you have a special needs child or person in your life RUN FAR AWAY from this place, all I did was walk in and was immediately met with a rude receptionist. I am not so sure how this office receives a special needs label when they have a lack of compassion and are extremely impatient. No one can even say a word in the building without the lovely assistant giving you attitude. I don't even know the type of care they give because we couldn't even get that far. Being in the disabled community is hard enough without rude people trying to ruin things for you, when there supposed to be accommodating and patient. read more

This place used to be amazing. You will notice that by the older, stellar, reviews... It is now terrible. What happened? Well, staff changes. Dr. David is what made that this place a blessing. He was a dentist that you could take your special needs child to and know they were in great hands. There was compassion, kindness and patience. My son, actually loved going to the dentist and could not wait to go. And this was after he had experienced some traumatic dental visits some where else. But now, Dr. David is gone and so is all the rest of it. You now have rude, and unprofessional treatment from start to finish! Not to mention it used to be non-profit but now it seems all they care about is profit at the expense of their special needs patients. There are a lot of dentists (with office staff) that will care about the special needs of you or your child, don't make the mistake of trusting this one. I do not like the new front office guy they have. My son has gone through a LONG process for his teeth. Trusted David and his assistant and now it's randomly new people. My son barley let them look at his teeth for the longest time. Now he has an abscess and the front desk guy gives me attitude because I'm ify about the new staff. Not that I don't trust them. But I've been to so many drs and finally found one my son trust and now I'm supposed to be ok with starting over. I can't be a lil upset about this he needs better customer service with special needs parents. read more

My daughter is 27 and has Down Syndrome and Autism. It has been a struggle for years trying to find a dentist that would deal with her as she doesn't like to be touched and doesn't cooperate. I am so grateful to this facility, its donors, the friendly staff, and especially, Dr. David Jourabchi, who was sooooo calm and patient with her. We didn't feel rushed or like we were the worst parents EVER since she didn't want to be there. He kept trying to calm me (Mom) down!! This was only her first visit but we will definitely be back as many times as it takes. Fantastic place! Highly recommended!!!! read more

If you care for a high needs person this review is for you. Do not come to this Dentistry. They do not have the equipment/staff needed to provide adequate service for this type of individual. They only offer "soft cleanings" which basically amounts to flossing a person's teeth. They will give you a referral to an oral surgeon's office they have no working relationship with. Who does not offer the x ray's, cleaning and filling of cavities they will tell you that he does. They will also not fax the form for you (apparently that's your job as the caregiver) or fill out the referral form correctly. You will see a new dentist every single visit each who seem like they just graduated dental school, and this is probably their first time working with disabled people. This place is just a mess and more of a hassle then actual help. read more

AMAZING I'm in disbelief that this place exists and that it is as good as it is. Dr. David is incredible, as is the rest of the team - from front office to the physical assistants. You never feel rushed. You always feel welcomed. They have a sensory room, and you're given a smile kit on your first visit so your child can be as comfortable as possible, whatever their special need may be. They also have TVs hanging upside down so the kids can watch whatever they want while they have their teeth cleaned. I also appreciate that they offer sedation and that process goes incredibly smoothly. If you have a child with special needs, you NEED to bring them here. Without question. This is "THE BEST" special needs dentist office I have ever been to. I have several kids with autism and they had yet to have a successful dentist visit until we came here. My son typically doesn't even make it to the chair but this time he was able to receive a full cleaning. The staff were absolutely outstanding, from the front office to the dentist. They worked so well together as a team to ensure their patients had a good experience. My son suffers from sensory issues and when I communicated all of his needs the staff customized his complete visit. The front office, Beatriz, walked us through the office explaining everything step by step with pics and prompts. While waiting to be called back, he was able to play in their really cool sensory room. The dental hygienist, Evenlyn, had his room light dimmed, soft music playing, along with his fav movie on above him (muted). The dentist, Dr. Ashley, was extremely friendly and came in to meet and speak with us. She got all the details she felt she needed to ensure he would have a stressless exam. She realized that my son was still very nervous and allowed me to sit with him in the chair. She had the staff leave for a bit until he was comfortable. The hygienist was great because she tried different cleaning options to see which one best fit his needs. She started off with a really cool tool to take pics of his teeth because he was unable to handle X-rays. After some trial and error we decided to go with manually brushing his teeth and just go really slow. Additional staff, Carmen, came to help out and they both brushed his teeth, tickled, and comforted him. They were nice enough to even take pics for me. They tag teamed making him laugh and getting back to the difficult teeth. This was all while I was still holding him in the chair. When they completed their portion Dr. Ashley returned and gently completed his examination. She was very quick and efficient. My son barely shed a single tear and never screamed or ran away. The staff made sure that he was 100% supported at all times. At the end of the visit, my son received a cool sensory fidget toy, cheers and several high fives from the staff. This was the first time we have walked out a dentist office with no tears and a smile. While I was there I saw many other patients walking in and out of their appointments. I can honestly say they all received the very same experience as my kid did. Their patients ranged from kids to adults with different abilities. I got to witness a returning patient rave about her teeth being fixed and the relief that she was experiencing since her last appointment. She even went on to say she was so frightened at first but because of her accommodations it wasn't bad at all. She was sad that she had waited so long to get it fixed but she would never do it again because "This place is awesome" she said. I can honestly, easily give the establishment 5 stars without a single thought. I booked all my other kiddos before leaving. Their office manager, Arey, scheduled all 3 of my remaining kids and my son's follow up visit. In addition, to adding my kids to their waitlist in order for them to be seen quicker. I have given out their information to every single autism parent friend that I know. This place is truly a blessing and they genuinely care about the patients getting the dental care they need. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. ASHLEY AND HER STAFF FOR ALL DENTAL NEEDS. read more

We are so lucky to have found this dental office!!! It's impossible to imagine a better way to take our 7 year old daughter with ASD to the dentist! We have been twice now, once for checkup and once for work/anesthesia - but the visits were stress free and tear free! They only book one person at a time, so there is never a rush, and they allow our kiddo to do whatever she needs to get comfortable (making a world of difference). Be careful if you're a senior on the spectrum and alone. My primary dentist referred me for a specific procedure and chipped teeth. He had several excuses why he could not treat me in that office. I wanted to trust him, and a practice called 'Special Needs' sounded like a place that would take good care of me. The assistants and dental surgeon were kind and accommodating, but I was informed one of the procedures the dentist ordered was not necessary. I also was not told they were going to melt my permanent teeth into nubs. I smelled burning but wanted to believe it was an advanced procedure to repair chipped teeth. It was never explained to me entire teeth would be melted, and all that remained in my gums would be tiny points. It wasn't expected they'd do this to so many teeth when not all of them were chipped. I've never had bad dentists before this. Previous dentists were devoted to meticulously repairing chipped teeth separately. Instead the procedure performed was quicker and convenient for the surgeon. It's been over nine months and some temps are still on. Texts and voice mails go ignored. One front side crown is completely white and protruding unlike the natural one on the other side. When I initially showed the surgeon that tooth, it was chipped but repairable! So much cement was applied after that second visit that the cement fell off that weekend revealing that chipped tooth was completely missing. The office had no problem slapping a huge charge on my credit card for this botched work. They won't be putting a photo of my teeth up in their office. I've had nice teeth all my life and now hide them. This was not necessary and a hardship still being paid off. Everyday I regret ever going to the initial dentist and Special Needs. read more

Absolutely amazing place to take your children with special needs. Their office is very spacious and very sensory friendly. They have a sensory play room for the kids and book out appointments every hour so when you're there you aren't in a waiting room full of people. The rooms themselves have dimmed lighting and TVs on with kid shows. All the dentists are very welcoming and kind and throughly listen to your concerns. I am so glad I found them and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a dentist that knows how to interact and treat those with special needs right. read more
