She was seen in California but once we moved we decided to try this office. Brought her in and the care was fine, it wasn't anything super great. Found out she had a few cavities that needed taken care of and one on her molar that needed extra attention. No big deal, as a parent I was an idiot to think my child this young could handle brushing on her own . Went up to the front and they scheduled her appointment with High Plains Surgical Center to just do everyone in one bang. It was set for August 22nd. I was encouraged by the dentist to do it this way as "too many sessions and the child starts to not take the experience too well." I realized later on that the next day would be the first day of school. I called them and asked for it to be rescheduled because she has never been put under anesthesia before and I didn't want to risk her missing her first day. I told them that anytime before the 22nd was perfectly fine. I was told I would be called back to talk to the lady that was scheduling those appointments and that she would call back right away. I waited for days on a call back and it didn't happen. I called them again and left the voicemail letting them know I was still waiting. The lady who does scheduling called back and stated "well we tried to call you" which wasn't true. She proceeded with rescheduling and told me there was no availability until September 25th. And I'm thinking dang! They want her to wait 3 months? Whatever. I took the date and she said I would be put on a cancellation list. Fast forward end of July and the molar had gotten infected. It was swollen, red, looked like there was a zit on her gum. Since it was a Sunday I took my daughter to urgent care to get antibiotics started. Got amoxicillin and went home intending to call them the next day. I called them and let them know that her tooth is now infected and needs to be address as soon as possible. The receptionist told me she would call me back and let me know what they could do. 8 days later... no call back. On the 8th day of the 10 day dosage I woke my daughter up and noticed her face was swollen and she was itchy. Clearly she was having an delayed allergic reaction (as I did her age) and promptly took her to the ER. She was treated and then we went home. I called the office again and let them know hey, she has now had an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and would really like to bring her in to be seen so there is a visual on the tooth. Again, was told I would get a call back. I have not heard from them since. Its been almost a month. In the meantime I had enough, I made an appointment with Apline Dental where I am a patient and had an AMAZING experience for her. While they were upfront and let me know they did not have the tools needed to properly handle the situation, they were calling around to see where they could get her in to have the tooth extracted as it was still infected. They found another pediatric dentist that was willing to take her the following Monday and scheduled everything for me. I have made the statement that I have not heard from them, but my husband who was TDY in another state sure did. They were having an issue with our insurance that needed cleared up but didn't have the time of day to take care of my child. When he requested her record be sent over to Apline Dental, they said nothing and just emailed him the form to fill out and send back. Being the first time being seen by a pediatric-specific office... it was a huge disappointment.

Even though my daughter technically aged out of paediatric care a few years ago, Dr Asay continues to treat her with the same kindness and expertise that she always has. This kind of dedication is rare and it speaks volumes about her commitment to her patients. I would never take my daughter anywhere else EVER! As someone who asks all the questions to…read moremake sure my insurance will cover my children's care- who put in paperwork with their ages well in advance to the appointment (per Smile Academy policy) I was informed that they definitely took my insurance and later got the full bill because my son is 8 and cannot be seen by a PEDIATRIC dentist. Yep, that's right. In talking with my insurance, they told me that the office was informed that my 8 year old would not be covered. I didn't get a phone call. They still saw my son. Nothing was said. I paid the co pay. All was totally normal. Except for the actual visit and care. Cal Bullock. He is rude to his assistants and treated me like I didn't know anything. Understandably, he is the professional and I am just the client. I was given a form to sign and indicate what type of material I wanted going in my son's mouth. I communicated composite and selected it on the form with my signature. He put metal in my son's mouth. Because he could. Because even filing a grievance with the insurance company on this behavior only got me a line saying "We are so sorry this was your experience," and here's the bill on top of not doing what you asked for. No accountability. They don't care. And yet, they can't stop writing me with their passed due notes. I am the kind of nice person who rarely gets actual help from customer service because I am just too nice. Hey, I am a barista. I know the only time anyone listens up and actually helps is when people are angry. I see it all the time. Throw a big fit and the pay off is everything is free. I won't do that. It's not ethical. I will finally write my first bad review because other people deserve to know. I went to work at Starbucks for their amazing benefits because before that, I have had to pay for health care and dentist appointments out of pocket for my family of 5. That was hard. Finally I have insurance! I went to Smile Academy thinking I could finally afford to take care of my kids. Well, nope. I still have to pay out of pocket. And not because I did anything wrong. I followed all the guidelines to get a dentist and appointment. I just wasn't told the truth when my child got seen in spite of their knowing he wasn't covered, again contrary to all communication, and when I was handed a form that made me believe the choice of procedure was the parent's. At Smile Academy there are some of the nicest people I have talked to- in office. But once I was outside of the office. They don't care. My experience was unethical on their part. They aren't even working with me to lower the bill in light of all of this because funny story my 8 year old has insurance. I could literally cry. Well, I guess I needed these fillings replaced and work on a tooth that Dr. Cutler said was damaged due to night grinding. Dr. Cutler changed his tune and stated that I was told that I needed a build up and a crown. This was never discussed. I told him my recollection to the conversations we had three times that I needed two crowns on the right side and only needed drill and fills on the left. But, Dr. Cutler told me a completely different story about what I would need. I find Dr. Cutler's bedside manner to be less than pleasant. I understand that there is work to be done, but don't look and conversate with your dental assistant when you have a drill in my mouth and on my tooth. On the hunt for another dentist.

He left a visible bone where he extracted an upper tooth. When I mentioned it, he said it would work its way out ..UNDERNEATH AN UPPER PLATE?????? EUEN I KNOW THATS NOT POSSIBLE. HIS PERSONALITY IS DECEIUING. At first he is nice until you question him. I had to make him stop extracting because the tooth was not yet numb. That ticked him off.
