Let me say this, actual dentist, super cool, very helpful and friendly. Dental assistant, same thing. Front desk manager: unprofessional, condescending, bigot. I called and scheduled a new patient appointment. The manager got me in for an appointment 2 days later. Go in yet x-rays, see dentist, get a scan, waiting for cleaning am told I'm not getting one. Confusion ensues because I called in and asked for a new patient appointment which includes a cleaning. I have been here for a hour and told by the doctor I'm getting a cleaning but front desk says I'm not. I say let me just pay and go because at this point waste of time. Pay and ask to speak with dentist. Told by front desk he's busy. Say I'll wait and proceed to go sit back and the front waiting area. As I'm waiting I sit my computer down and the trophy on the front desk falls over. The manager comes out quickly and I say your trophy fell I'm waiting to speak with the dentist. He says you can speak to me and I say no I'm waiting for the dentist. I am a 5'3" 140ish black woman. Nothing about me is aggressive or intimidating unless you're intimated by my skin. He says well are you going to be aggressive with him. CONFUSION. I'm not yelling, I'm not irate, I'm not belligerent, I'm not threatening, I'm holding a laptop, a phone, and in a speaking voice asking to talk to the dentist. So I ask what he's talking about. He then says I'm being irate. Familiar with these situations I say nothing about me is aggressive are you telling a black woman she's being aggressive? He storms off, says omg, and slams the glass door. Never asked to leave I continue to wait to speak to the dentist. Call the police because at this point this man is telling me that I am aggressive, irate, and has now slammed a door. I wait about 5-10 more minutes. He comes back out and says you can speak with me. I again reiterate I need to speak with the owner of the business i.e. the dentist. He says well I'm calling the cops. Just as I thought threatening me with the police, but I did nothing wrong, so I tell him u already called them. And I inform him you never told me to leave so I'm not here unlawfully. I ask him about 5 times is he asking me to leave and he can't even get it out because he knows I did nothing wrong besides ask to speak to the dentist. He then says fine I'm asking you to leave. I exit. If I was belligerent, irate, aggressive then I'm 99% positive the dentist and everyone else would have come out to see what happened, yet, no one did. Because I wasn't. I made a simple request to speak to the dentist. As a black personality I'm aware of how people use code words and the police to threaten. Calling me aggressive when I am literally talking to you in a speaking voice, making me seem irate when I'm quite literally only saying "I want to speak to the dentist", threatening to call the police when you never asked me to leave as if that is a threat when I ALREADY CALLED THEM, all of these are tactics employed by racist. They are unacceptable. And any person of color should be aware of the desk managers behavior before choosing to come to this location. This is not a safe space and you will not be treated with respect. And just to be clear this manager is not white. That does not negate his racism. Coming to the dentist and being threatened with police action is crazy. The cameras show my tone and the fact that I was not aggressive, irate, belligerent, rude. However, you sir were, plus racist. A tragic combination that could have been worse had the police that you "called" (you didn't because you never asked me to leave) believe your foolishness about me being aggressive. You should be ashamed of yourself. A 5'3" 140 pound woman with a laptop is threatening to you. Pathetic. read more
