This review is specifically for Dr. Navid Kia who cleaned and whitened my teeth before my wedding…read more Dr. Kia has excellent chairside manner. In my day, I have met several dentists and dental hygienists who treat teeth cleaning like an archaeological expedition. Dr. Kia is not that way at all. He seems to have a lot of reverence for the responsibility his profession carries. He also empathizes with his patients, and was genuinely concerned about my comfort while I was in the chair. He was very upfront with me about the fact that teeth whitening usually hurts a lot, that I will feel sharp pains in my teeth, that most people don't make it through the third session, and that I shouldn't try to be a hero about it. Perks about the office include a flat screen TV in the dentists' rooms positioned so you can watch them while you're getting your teeth cleaned and a massaging dental chair. The reception area is mostly like most other dentists' offices: glass tiles and that dentist office smell. There is also a big flat screen television in the reception area with the news playing. Unfortunately, it's Fox News, but I won't get into my politics here. And in case you were wondering, my teeth are whiter than they have been in years, and years. I was shocked at how white they were. Shocked. I think it's definitely worth the expense. I mean, I could be a tooth model or something.

I've been a patient of Lakeside Dental for several years. Dr. Century actually knows my previous…read moredentist through their dental fraternity, so I knew I was getting a continued excellent standard of care. What I got was even greater; an escalation. Lakeside's x-rays are digital, which means they expose us, the patients, to far less radiation than a traditional x-ray. While important for adults, this is also particularly important for children. Should you require a procedure that involves more than a cleaning, they have video glasses, and a large library of movies that you can use to pass the time and distract you. I only used them once, for a tooth whitening, but it was far more pleasant than twiddling my thumbs for an hour. If you don't finish the movie, they'll even let you take it home, so long as you return it in a timely fashion. Lakeside is a preventative practice. They have a device (can't remember the name) that can scan your teeth for microfractures, and put it up on the screen so you can see it yourself. This lets them get the jump on a problem, when it's treatable by fluoride, or at least a less-invasive, painful, and expensive procedure. Again, I haven't needed anything from it, but it was cool to watch. They also have a therapy dog, Nano, that can sit quietly in the lap of nervous children (or adults) during exams. It's not just flash; Dr. Century does top-notch work. I've got several friends who have seen her for complex surgeries, crowns, etc. They even have a milling machine that can creates the crowns within an hour on-site, so you don't have to come back for an additional visit. With digital records, it's easy for them to track progress of problems over the course of several years, so you can see when it's time to do something, or when you're close to getting that perfect gum exam. Sadly, I haven't yet. Someday, I hope. My last visit was on a Saturday, and I saw Dr. Wolf. She had a relaxing nature about her, and I would trust her to do anything my teeth required as well. Outside of specialties, I've had 4 dentists in 50+ years, but have been with Lakeside long enough to know that they are top-notch. Dr. Century is a pioneer in the use of lasers, and over my time with the practice, has been flown to give seminars on the use of lasers to other dentists. Dr. Century is a rock-star; very well-known in her field. Oh, I almost forgot. Every visit includes topical fluoride at the end. No other dentist ever offered that, at least not without what would have been an extra fee. Lakeside costs me a few dollars less than my last dentist for an exam and cleaning to boot. I suspect that the vast number of 5-star reviews that appear hidden on this page do so because people have only a review or two of short length, and no real history on Yelp. While I can appreciate that Yelp is erring toward the side of caution, especially given some recent bad press with paid-for reviews, I think that, in the case of this business, you can be a bit less dubious. I found I get as much detail as anyone could want on my options, and as much time as anyone could need from any of the staff. If they run late, which they rarely do, they give you a gift card for lunch as an apology. They are a medical practice that stresses customer service. I've referred people to Lakeside, and will continue to do so. I drive there from Glenview, which is kind of a haul, and would still visit them if they were twice as far.

I've watched her gain experience through the years and is always keeping up with technology. I had three crowns put in today and it was such a positive experience. I highly recommend Lakeside Dental.

The clinic always exudes a sense of warmth and professionalism that immediately puts me at ease. My appointment with Dr. Roessler, who I must say is an exceptional dentist. I personally had a bad mold taken at this office due to my very small mouth. The metal molding plate barely fit into my mouth, and there was not enough buffer material left around the front of the mouth guard to create stability. As a result, the night guard was excessively thin/ fragile at the front/ removal point (.75 mm walls). As a result my expensive, not covered by insurance, night guard cracked after 1.5 years of light use. Dr. Roessler did not ask to review the guard to asses the quality of the work. I imagine he could've asked his supplier to remold the piece due to this issue. Instead, a secretary called me let me know I was out of luck. So I am just out the money....

I was referred to this dental practice by a friend several years ago. I have had different…read moreprocedures and was pleased with the work and appreciate the ability to have dental work under sedation due to a medical issue I have. Dr Potts is a very kind man. Unfortunately, my last few experiences have left me needing to find a new dentist. Several years ago I had a root canal done by a dentist who is no longer at this practice. A few years later, I was having pain in the tooth that had the root canal and saw Dr. Potts, he did a scan and found out that the root canal wasn't done correctly. He referred me to a specialist who might have been able to save my tooth. That wasn't going to work and I needed an extraction and implant. I was quoted $5,000 by Whitney at Lake County Family Dental, similar to what an oral surgeon would be, so I decided to use Dr. Potts as I knew him. When I went in to pay a few days before the procedure, they told me it was actually going to be $7,000. I ended up using them and paying the higher amount because I really wanted to get the extraction done as the tooth was bothering me. They ended up charging me $7,748! I didn't need all the sedation and they are refusing to give me a refund after telling me I had over $1,000 credit! After the extraction, I had a lot of bruising on my face, not sure what happened as I was under sedation during the extraction. It took OVER a YEAR to finally get my implant. Turns out this is not the normal time frame and had I used an oral surgeon, I would have had my implant much earlier and it would have been much less expensive. In the meantime, because I was only able to eat on one side of my mouth, I now needed a crown. This happened right as I was finally getting my implant. My latest experience was very painful and why I have decided to find a new dental practice. I needed a crown and decided to use Dr Potts, he did the temporary crown. I was in pain after the procedure and it got worse a few days later so I went in and saw Dr John Planisek as Dr Potts was unavailable. Dr John Planisek said the temporary crown was too high and this was common for crowns done under sedation. He filed it down and said I'd have some pain for a few days but it would get better. That was not the case, the pain got worse and I was not only unable to eat anything crunchy, like nuts or carrots, but I could only chew on one side and had trouble drinking water and eating soft foods as well. My jaw hurt if I yawned and I was getting shooting pains at random times during the day from my tooth down to my jaw and up to my ear. It also hurt in the middle of the night and I'd wake up several times each night due to the pain. I went in and saw Dr John Planisek again, this was about 2 weeks after the temporary crown was done. He said it could be due to a few issues and that he'd put my permanent crown in and that would stop the pain. I trusted him and agreed to have him put the permanent crown in while I was at the office and not under sedation. He DID NOT offer me any pain relief. I had no idea that I should have asked for something as this dental practice is supposed to be one that cares about patients and doesn't want them to suffer. When he removed the temporary crown, he knew I was in pain as I told him. He put the permanent crown on and it was one of the most painful dental procedures I've ever had. If you've ever had an exposed or irritated nerve and had someone put pressure on it, you know just how awful that pain is. I had to bite down for a few minutes for the cement to adhere and he kept saying the pain would go away, it didn't. I had trouble sitting still due to the pain, my blood pressure skyrocketed and I was sweating. I went home and took 2 Tylenol and 2 Advil for some relief, I was unable to work or eat for the rest of the day and my mouth was still throbbing when I went to sleep. To top It all off, I still have pain and my bite doesn't feel right but I'm too scared to ask them if it can be fixed. I'll just find a new dentist and get help there. Worst $2.500 I've ever spent! Unless you like feeling like you're being tortured, and have a lot of money to spend, find another dental practice.
