Now they are charging me for a club allocation I did not want, nor ok, and have in fact requested to not have. Don't go. Horrible winery. There are literally hundreds of wineries in Paso/Templeton that adore their club members. Halter Ranch, Opolo, Graveyard (our favorite), Onx, Sans Liege, Venteux, etc, etc. Skip this one.

Their English Cream Golden Retrievers are also very welcoming and love to join in our conversations. We are the type of members who always take great care of the staff and rarely leave without purchasing extra bottles, yet today we were treated like an inconvenience. ​Despite being told in the past that spontaneous visits were no problem for members, we were turned away on a gloomy Monday with plenty of open tables. The host at the entrance was incredibly dismissive and wouldn't even let us finish our sentence before cutting us off. We were told our only options were to come back in an hour, a "limited" tasting, drive all the way downtown, or just pick up our shipment and leave. ​We asked for the Wine Club Manager to resolve the situation, but she wasn't on-site. To be offered a "partial" tasting as a favor after nearly ten years of support was the final straw. It feels as though they now prioritize "closing" new members over honoring the people who have supported them for years. They've gone mainstream and lost the personal touch that made them special.

The owner and wine-maker Neil (whose nickname is Clavo) was great to talk to. He let us try every wine - about 3 whites, 1 rose, 1 sparkling, 5 or 6 reds, and a port. We are kind of wine snobs and loved a lot of the wines. While we tasted (and we were the only visitors at the time), Neil told us stories about his wine and his dogs, Rory and Karma visited with us. They are very sweet older pups. Because Zack's dad is in the wine business, Neil offered us a 30% discount on the wines we purchased - so nice! We'd love to visit Neil and Clavo again and were so thankful for such a fun afternoon activity (and Neil even gave us caterer suggestions to we can label this stop "working on our wedding"!).

The bottles labels are so pretty with so much color. The tasting room itself is small, but in the best way possible--super cozy, intimate, and welcoming. The tasting room was named one the top #19 wineries in Architectural Digest (August 2018) in the WORLD! And #2 of the top #19. Now that's amazing and well deserved! We were on the fence about one of the wines, and she offered us an older vintage so we would know how it would taste in 10 years! That worked! We also were given some bamboo plates and napkins to enjoy the sandwiches we brought in as our tasting was at lunch time and we didn't know purchasing cheese and charcuterie was an option. Had no intentions of buying when we arrived but left with 6 amazing wines. 4 big reds and 2 delicious whites, their focus is of course the big reds classic to Paso. We will return! Loved meeting the vineyard cat too! What a great day.
