This is my first time visiting this market in the middle of country Farms. I was surprised when I…read morepulled up. There was a tour bus. The market is smaller than I imagined, but it was stacked with lots of goodies. There were samples throughout and I really enjoyed the tart cherry juice and picked up a bottle to take home. They also had blue Amish popcorn, which is a treat. I was surprised there weren't any regular restrooms but just a portable outside which an employee told me even they must use. No thank you. I guess it's too early for fresh corn even though it was sold at the market it was not from Wisconsin because it is too early. So that was a little disappointing, thinking I was getting fresh corn.

My husband purchased 5 lines of Powerball with the powerplay. We were charged $15 (they are $3 dollars per line), but as we were leaving the store, we realized there was only one line printed on the ticket! We went back into the store hoping to get the 4 extra lines we paid for...but instead the two people working there could not figure out why the machine printed out only one line. One of the workers printed out 4 more tickets at $3 apiece plus an extra ticket.... So, I said well, those are our 4 lines on 4 other separate tickets, I'll pay another $3 for the 6th line which I thought was printed on the sixth ticket. One of the workers chased us down for the 6th ticket because "we weren't supposed to get the sixth one!" What a mess, they charged us another $12 (plus our original $15) and we're still short four lines! They would not refund us the 12 dollars we paid extra, the only explanation from one of the workers was "I don't know what to tell you..." She acted like it was the machine's fault! My husband didn't want to argue and continue explaining how the $27 we already paid should equal 9 lines, so we left being cheated out of 12 bucks! Kewaunee is a small town and the prices are higher than average, but we pay them because it's the only grocery store here--and we are regular customers spending on average $150-200 a week, so I'm very disappointed and also angry that as loyal customers for the last five years, they couldn't make sure we were refunded the proper amount and not just blame it on the machine. I wonder who gets our $12 dollars and the extra printed ticket--the store or Wisconsin Lottery??!!

It's a reasonably sized store, because that's what they do--they don't sell sushi, or have a a huge deli and bakery and butcher and all. They have an alcohol section--of course, this is Wisconsin after all--and it's not small for the size of the store. It was easy to shop, and they have t-shirts/onesies/sweatshirts in case you need some PW merch.

Our last visit was during the COVID-19 era. Everyone I saw (employees and customers) all had masks and were very respectful. The employees have always been very nice and helpful when I have visited. The shelves are always stocked and I have never experienced an issue with not getting exactly what I came for. This Walmart and the one in Richland, Wisconsin, are the 2 best Walmarts I have ever visited in regard to cleanliness, friendliness, and dependability. It is a 5 star Walmart, I just can't bring myself to give a Walmart 5 stars based on principle and previous experience with the corporation that owns Walmart (sorry Sturgeon Bay Walmart; it's not you, it's me).

We found some locally made bratwurst, Door County goat cheese spread, crackers, and asparagus. It is good we like asparagus as this was the only fresh vegetable available. They have some nice gift items as well. This is a nice option for picking up a few things, but definitely don't expect to get everything you'd need for a full vacation's worth of provisions. You will still need to hit one of the supermarkets for that.

Recently purchased 1/2 of beef from a local farmer who had it processed at Ottos. Hanging weight…read morewas 281lbs so it was a smaller animal. When we got our packages of tenderloins we were shocked at how small they were. The largest one was 3.5oz. The total of the whole tenderloin was 2.6 lbs. When I questioned it their response was that it was a small animal and after trimming, that's what they got. Not much to trim on a tenderloin. I find it very hard to believe since we have had many venison tenderloins much larger than this. If you get an animal processed and you are getting tenderloins, I suggest you ask for the entire loin not cut.

The story of Otto's Meats is a sad story…read more Otto Knoche did a fantastic job building this business, but the new owners haven't followed his recipe for success and now the business is suffering. Under Otto's leadership, this establishment sold high-quality sausages and other meats. While the quality of the products has not diminished greatly, the quality of the service has suffered. Relying on gimmicks like "Free Item Friday," instead of focusing on customer interactions and relations, I often both enter and leave disappointed. Take today, for example. It's a quiet morning. The front counter is staffed, but the employee has her back to me as I enter, I can hear her phone on speaker, and the employee didn't even acknowledge me as I entered. At first, I thought maybe she was on the phone with another customer, so I didn't think too much of it. But, when I completed my product selection and brought my items to the cash register, this woman still kept her back to me. Then I noticed she was taking a personal call. When she finally turned about to face me, she didn't even say a word to me; she just started working her scale and cash register. It was very rude and unprofessional conduct. Furthermore, she didn't thank me or anything else. It was the worst interaction with Otto's staff I have ever had. As for the availability of product, products which were normally well-stocked have been out-of-stock. This has been due, in part, to the scaling-up of operations engaged in by the owners; they're expanding their building, and production capacity, which has drawn focus away from keeping high-demand items in stock (e.g., various smoked items, hams). While most items have remained true to Otto's recipes, I have noticed a difference with some items (e.g., breakfast ham). When Otto ran the place, I never encountered bone fragments in my ground meat products - whether beef or pork. Under the new owners, too often I have found bone fragments in ground pork products. In fact, I chipped a tooth while eating a bratwurst patty because there was a large bone fragment there. This, coupled with sloppy cutting of bacon, has caused me to reduce, and in many cases cease, buying many items. Now, as for prices, they have increased dramatically since the new owners have taken over. Five years ago bacon was five dollars a pound, now it is eight and a half dollars; ground pork was three dollars a pound, now it is five; lard has doubled in price; and all other items have risen in price much, much higher than their grocery store equivalents. I tried to take the changes with a grain of salt, as they say, but I have reduced my purchases by at least two-thirds, if not three-quarters, over the last twelve months or so. As I said earlier, Otto's Meats is a sad story. P.S. I hope Otto Knoche is very much enjoying his well-deserved retirement!
