The historic Hotel Nevada converted their restaurant to a Denny's franchise a few years ago. When we asked locals for a place to eat I'm unsure why more than one of them said, "don't go to Denny's". It's convenient, breakfast is included with your room, and it's really no different than any other Denny's anywhere. We went on two consecutive mornings when we visited Ely and although the service was a little slow during the breakfast the food was well prepared, presented and the server was very courteous. The food was exactly as expected, and I can't imagine how breakfast could be much better than this anywhere else in town. It was certainly several levels above any chain hotel buffet of heated up, pre-prepared foods. Tip - when staying for the free breakfast take the option of applying five dollars off of any menu item instead of the free breakfast. It's pretty skimpy. We paid about $25 for a very nice breakfast this way. Give it a try, especially if you're staying in the hotel. There aren't a lot of other options in Ely. read more

We came here for dinner. It was conveniently a few minutes walk from the place I was staying at, and I had a $5 off coupon. There was plenty of tables and service as good as we were rather early. We ordered the Wild Alaska Salmon and Salmon Salad Your Way. The food was very good and filling. Knocked off a star because the waitress said we could select two sides for the Wild Alaska Salmon, but not once mentioning there was extra cost; I would have liked a heads up and not be surprised when I pay the bill. read more

The worst dining experience I have ever had in my life. We came to the dinner on 9/9/25. After spending a whole day in the Great Basin national park, we were hungry so it felt the food took forever to arrive. When the waitress brought the food over, she spilled 1/3 of the food on the table on one of the plate. SHE THEN USE HER PAWS TO GRAB THE FOOD AND PUT THEM BACK TO THE PLATE. She laughed and mumbled something then quickly left the table. I couldn't believe what I saw and if my wife did not stop me, I would have done something I would regret. Even the people sat next table were commenting how terrible that was. We could just shake our heads in disbelief. Obviously we lost our appetite and just want to leave. Here is the kicker, the waitress was nowhere to be found. No one, I meant, NO ONE can take our money and there were 3 tables of people waiting to pay. The cook from the back does not speak much English and he went to look for the waitress and couldn't find her either. We must have waited at least for 25 ~ 30 minutes before she showed up with a shit face. Judging from other's review, this is NOT a one time deal. Went to dinner at this establishment today on 04/27/2025 at approx. 1730. We were seated at a table. We were not asked what we wanted to drink. So we thought they were just busy. 10 mins go by, still no staff. The employee that was assigned to our table, took drink orders for two groups who came in after us. We waited a total of 30 mins before getting up and leaving, that's when an employee comes to our table asking if we ordered. I explained the exact reason and she stated " I told her "3 times" to take your order." It's ridiculous, and I don't know the reason on why she avoided us but that was our first time there and will not be coming back.. I would like to talk to any management employees about this issue for this establishment.. read more

I haven't been to a Denny's in years and was pleasantly surprised by my meal today! My husband got the Denver omelette and I got a build your own slam. The omelette was tasty with expertly grilled onions inside and on top. The hash browns buttery and perfectly crispy. Our server, Shirlene, was friendly, attentive and brought our food out in record time. Next time we stop in Ely, we'll definitely stay at the Hotel Nevada and grab breakfast at this Denny's. The only reason this got 4 instead of 5 stars was because of the smoky smell in the restaurant. It's attached to the Hotel Nevada's gambling hall and the smoke wafts in a bit. They try to disperse the scent with air purifiers, but I have a sensitive nose and did start sneezing toward the end of my meal. read more

Sorry to say, but we would not recommend. Stayed in Ely for a few days and first morning woke up too late for breakfast at the hotel. Figured Denny's would be good. It's inside a casino, but still should be fine. Waited several minutes before someone saw us and was seated. Given menus and asked what we wanted to drink. That person, who we think was working the counter, never came back and apparently left because her shift was over? When a different server finally came for our order, told her about our drinks. Just shook her head. She seemed to be the only one with any experience as a restaurant server. Our breakfasts finally came, on the cold side and very sad looking. I do remember Denny's as having great breakfast dishes. Sadly, not this one. We finally got our bill and paid. This used to be the coffee shop of the Hotel Nevada but it has been leased to Denny's. One of the perks of staying at the Hotel Nevada is that you get a voucher for a free breakfast at Denny's. I sat at the counter and handed the slip to a server. She asked me how I wanted my eggs and did I want bacon or sausage. She entered the order on the terminal and brought me my coffee. In a short time, I was brought the breakfast of two pancakes, two sausages, and two eggs over easy. I was expecting I'd order my breakfast but this is the way they do it for the free breakfast. The eggs were OK, the pancakes are generally something I don't order, and the sausage links were overcooked from their frozen state. My coffee was refilled and this gave me a start to what would be a long day. The second morning, I didn't get the free coupon but ordered from the menu. I got a ham and cheese omelette with hash browns and rye toast. The breakfast was passable. There was an odd mixture of cheese with one slice of American and a lot of Swiss that was like eating cheese off the top of onion soup. One night I stopped in for dessert and ordered a sundae. The woman really didn't know how to make it and ended up giving me too much ice cream (not a bad thing) but there was no room to put the Oreo crumbles that were supposed to go on top. I ate some of the ice cream and then added the Oreo pieces as I went along. Given that there are so few places in Ely, this may be as good as it gets. read more

Lunchtime Friday. Can't speak about food quality, but prospects weren't good. Only seemed to be 2 tired women working there who completely ignored my family after an initial chastisement by hostess to my kids who got "too close" -they just wanted to sit on the waiting bench which happened to be empty. Exceptionally poor service. Came in around 9:45AM (7/27/24) and had to wait a couple of minutes just for someone to come over and seat us. There was a cake and four plates on the counter- three with whole pieces and one empty/eaten. Manager lady was having some kind of issue with one of the servers (male) and finally took the rest of the cake away. Noticed while waiting to be seated that there were probably six tables that weren't bussed. Finally got seated by the manager and that was it. A few minutes after being seated, the manager and what appeared to be a dishwasher came out and did a quick bus of the tables. No one ever came out to take even our drink orders. About ten minutes later, another group came in and was seated right next to us. A female server finally came out but she and the manager were at the register with a customer (with a dog) who evidently had some sort of issue. They finally got her squared away and the server disappeared. The female server returned but messed around with the register for a bit and then left again. Finally, the male server came over and asked the group that had been seated after us what they wanted to drink, without even looking over or saying a thing to us. That was it. Picked up the menus and dropped them into the box at the register as we were on the way out. Two or three more groups were backed up waiting at the register to be seated when we left- almost twenty minutes after we walked through the door. I have never gotten up and left a restaurant before being served. Again, we weren't even asked what we wanted to drink. I have seen Denny's that were short-staffed and the manager was always jumping in and helping make sure that customers were served. Not this time. My friend and I went to breakfast at the Denny's at the Hotel Nevada; there was only one person, Romolo, greeting, seating and waiting tables. It got pretty busy, and never once did he lose his poise. He did everything well, took orders and served food as quickly as he could, and was always calm, polite and professional. Finally a location with good service, I stop by as I was driving thru town for a bite to eat. As we walked in first impression was the place looked nice and clean all tables looked clean and not dirty. The server was great and the food arrived quickly. The manager watching my table did a great job actually stopping by our table making sure we are doing good. I believe her name was Aurora.
