Please don't ever do business with Denny Wiggers Gardens Center in Paramus, NJ. I order a full cord of wood and recieved only around 48 cubic ft and paid $430. Dear DENNY WIGGERS GARDENS, I placed the below order and just had it delivered to my driveway. I ordered a full cord of wood but the attached images look like it's less than a half cord. "Screened" topsoil was loaded with rocks, some larger than a fist, and broken glass. ZERO response was received to my email, as expected. 5 yards of "topsoil" yielded several wheelbarrows full of rocks and debris. what I wasn't able to screen out myself I will be finding in my lawn for many years to come. read more

I've bought firewood from multiple locations in the past and no other place comes close to the quality firewood Denny Wiggers GC has. NOT all firewood is the same! Look at pic below and you'll see the wood on the left is from a DIFFERENT PLACE and they are bad sizes for a fireplace, have fungus on them and they don't burn clean. Dennys firewood is on the RIGHT. PERFECT sizes, dry, super clean and burns with a noticeable amazing aroma. I discovered Dennys while dropping my kid off at Bergen Community College in Paramus, Dennys is right across the street. Seriously, never knew of this place before - let me save you time, money and frustration by just going straight here. Terrible customer service!! We were in their store to ask about getting top soil. We need a considerable amount but not sure how much to order so one of the workers called a woman and handed us the phone. We were pleasantly surprised when she offered to have her foreman stop by and tell us how how much to order. After several days of not hearing from anyone I called. Always an answering machine which is not responded to in a timely manner. Eventually she called back and said the foreman would be by in a couple of hours. Unfortunately we had an appointment so I gave permission for him to come on our property. The next day she called and said he had been to our house and our front door was open and he also tried to call us. Told us we needed 10 yards. I told her our door was not open because as we told her we were going out and the front door was closed and locked. Also we have a ring doorbell which didn't show anyone at our door. Long story, short we determined he went to the wrong house. She said she would have him come back and I asked that he call before coming so I would be sure to be home. The other day I ran to the store and on my way home my ring camera went off. It appeared to be the foreman at the door as I could see the truck in my driveway. Never called prior to coming and haven't heard from anyone. At this point we don't trust doing business with them and are tired of begging them to do any business with them. Dennis did a really nice job redoing the front step. He was prompted and I'm very pleased with the job.

I ordered finely screened top soil from Denny. He failed to deliver on a scheduled Sunday without calling. I went to his office and he apologized for not calling and would deliver in a few hours. Delivery arrives and Denny greets me, my wife, and son. He leaves and I inspect the merchandise and noticed it is fill dirt not top soil. I called and spoke to his secretary and she apologized and would have the foreman call me. Similar to Sunday the foreman would never call so I decided to go to the shop once again. Upon arrival I speak to Denny and tell him my findings and show him pictures of the top soil. I asked him for a refund and to remove the fill dirt. He offered me a $100 credit to keep the dirt or to have his employees come and screen the soil. I declined both since my interactions with Denny have not pleasant and the quality of his product is questionable. He refused to refund me and started to brag and said he is Picasso of Kmart prices and will have his guys come by the following day. I told him once again that I doubt his abilities and credibility since he tried to sell a bad product and arrived late with the delivery. Things get interesting when he tells me that he doesn't do deliveries on Sundays. Two days prior he admitted and apologized for not calling and failure to appear. I didn't schedule the delivery, his secretary did. Once I saw his true character I told him I would just dispute the claim and he said "oh yeah well I will challenge it". Denny I see you reviewed all these post and I want you to see simple math, Mr. Picasso of Kmart Prices. It cost me $180 to order topsoil from you, I wasted a full day waiting on a delivery, I went to the hardware store and bought materials to make a sifter $70, 2 trips to your office, plus 5 calls, a dispute to my credit card, I have to shovel all this crap product and move under my deck, and now writing this review. The next high end competitor was quoting me at $230. Your price was $40 cheaper and I will end paying this 6x forward. I went with you to support local business. I've been a customer for over 20 years, and Denny is the absolute best!! He really cares about his customers and always goes the extra mile to make sure the job is done right. This year I had a problem with the grave blankets I ordered, the wrong one was placed on my parents grave. I discovered this just as the cemetery was closing for the night. Denny called me personally to apologize and met me at the cemetery bright and early the next morning with two brand new beautiful blankets which he placed personally. This is the kind of customer service he is known for, and I certainly appreciate. I can always count on Denny, Cheryl and the whole team at Denny Wiggers to take care of my garden and firewood needs. read more

Not happy with the firewood I received from Denny Wiggers. When I ordered I was assured it was all under 20% moisture content. I received a cord where over 75% is over 20% moisture. Most pieces are over 30% and some are as high as 45%. Yes, I have a meter that measures this. When I called to raise my concern, I spoke to a gentleman who said it's the time of year that I ordered it and it's not all going to be well seasoned. Had the lady who told me that in the first place I would have paid more somewhere else for kiln dried wood. Now I have 400$ worth of wood that I can't use till next year. read more

Never use. Last October his driver broke out in ground basketball hoop when delivering wood. For months he promised to fix it. Calls after calls. 2 months ago he said he picked up the broken hoop and would repair itX. What is their definition of seasoned wood? None of the wood we paid $50 for (a very high price for about 50 pieces of wood) is seasoned. It's heavy and smokes when burned. It's actually putting the fire out. We threw a small dresser in the fire to get some hot coals and when that burned down we put some Denny Wiggers seasoned wood on the coals. Nothing. You can hear the wood is sizzling and you can see the water oozing out the ends. And what's the deal with the alternate website, Magden's? Is this just another way to lure in unsuspecting customers? Do not buy wood from this establishment unless you need to put a fire out. read more

Ordered a half cord of the double splits for the first time. The wood was cut nicely and it will be a nice cord once it's ready but alot of it was definitely NOT seasoned. I could tell right away by the color and picking up the wood. My wood was obviously cut very recently. You can also smell how "green" the logs still are. I tested two logs and confirmed what I suspected. They won't light so I will have to put them away and let them sit. From the other reviews here, seems that others have also run into this issue. Overall wood was a a bit too early to be burned. Having used my fireplace often the last 10 years, I will say that this seems like a common problem in the area. I've ordered from multiple sources promising seasoned wood that were actually fresh. Unfortunately I ran into this same problem again with my order here. Wood was nice but I suggest you order early so you can let it dry I case you get some logs that are not ready. read more

Like most other people who have written reviews here I fell victim to Denny and his scam artist ways. I spoke with the receptionist when ordering a face cord and specified that it should be all oak and stacked she said no problem and explained how there would be additional charges which I accepted. Denny himself gave me a call a couple of hours late and stated how he had his truck all ready for delivery and when I asked to confirm that it was all oak he said it wasn't and that if I wanted all oak the delivery would be delayed, first strike. Upon arrival Denny himself knocked on my living room bay windows as opposed to coming to the door like a weirdo who's never interacted with people before and when I did go out to greet him he proceeded to ask me where I wanted it dumped. I informed him we agreed upon the wood being stacked to which he grumbled and said he didn't have time to do that, it was only when I told him to take the wood with him when he agreed to provide the service originally agreed upon. Silly me didn't watch him as he worked and after he had left when I went to go check it out I saw he stacked the wood so haphazardly it was barely 2/3 of what should have been there because of so much empty space but not to be a complete pain I left well enough alone and proceeded to bring logs inside to burn in the already running wood stove. It was clear from the beginning once I brought the wood inside just from the smell that this wood was green and clearly not seasoned. After the first log went on the fire and proceeded to smolder with the doors open and hiss water spewing out the sides I didn't add a second and called the office to ask them to please pick up their wood. Denny called me himself two hours later and said he would be by to put a moisture meter on the wood. He showed up and proceeded to my backyard before even notifying me he was there and tried to test the wood he provided as well as wood I had already had at the property without me being there. After he texted me he was outside and informed me it was good wood and started towards his truck. We went back and forth yelling at each other until finally I convinced him that he couldn't meter the outside surfaces of the wood but we had to split a piece to get an accurate reading, he unwillingly agreed and surprise surprise it was just under 50% moisture completely unusable and useless. He finally agreed that he would pick the wood up the next day and refund my money and on his way out he stated "I'll just sell it to someone else anyway", needless to say Denny Wiggers is a complete and utter scam artist who knowingly sells wood that is clearly not seasoned. Ordered "seasoned hardwood mix" wood from them. Complete disaster. First off, the wood was not seasoned and therefore not burnable. This wood would need constant attention and simply smolder and provide no heat ie. Not seasoned and a very high moisture content. In a year or two it will be burnable but not what I paid for. I complained numerous times via phone and email. Spoke with the owner three times. Long story short, they came back about a month later and supposedly took back the unseasoned wood and delivered "kiln dried" wood. Here's the issue: the wood they delivered was not kiln dried and just like the last batch, is not ready to be burned. I own a house in Vermont and have been buying kiln dried hardwood for 10 years. You can almost light those logs with a match. These people are charging top dollar and ripping people off, and provide lousy customer service at best. New wood needs constant attention as well and provides little heat (because it's wet). You can see the water burning off the ends of it. That's supposedly their kiln dried wood, imagine what the last batch was. BUYER BEWARE, their wood is not seasoned and if you are paying for kiln dried, it's not. Kiln dried wood tends to have no bark on it. This is lightly seasoned water laden hardwood with a moisture content wellover 60%. SCAM. Shame on them. Do not support this business, they are not worthy. MY REPLY TO CHERYL's Reply: Guys let's be clear: you essentially ignored my numerous calls and emails to rectify the situation. Any promises that were made to me were not followed through. Your half assed apology is a joke. My credit card company reviewed all the info and agreed with me that I should not owe you a penny. That's why they denied your charge and refunded me. You can pretend you care but we both know that you don't and you'll continue scamming people. You wasted a lot of my time and I wish you nothing but the worst for your business. If anyone is reading this, you are crazy if you buy firewood from this company. Everyone recommended to order firewood from Denny Wiggers and I also told 3 of my friends about it and we all ordered wood. The delivery took about 5 days but was easy enough to order online. We all received the heaviest wettest wood. It's unburnable. It smokes, it's pops and you basically need to pour gasoline on it to get a fire going. I drove past their yard and it's loaded with fresh cut down trees which they are delivering to people. For those who don't know it takes about a year or more to get a freshly cut down tree to be seasoned firewood. For the price and headache I would never order again. Seeing that yard and that they are selling all these people wet wood I had to get a review out. Two stars since the people i dealt with were nice enough in scheduling and delivery. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! There's a reason this place has so many negative reviews however I unfortunately did not read the reviews prior to doing business with these con artists. I recently ordered 3 yards of their screened top soil for delivery. After placing my order, I called to confirm a delivery date and time however no one answered the phone or returned the messages I left requesting a callback. The next day, the owner shows up at my home, unannounced, to deliver the soil. I found it odd that he would just show up without confirmation, especially considering we're in the middle of a quarantine. As it was raining outside, I pointed him to the spot on my front lawn where I wanted him to dump the soil. He backed up the truck, dumped the soil and took off before I could blink an eye. It then proceeded to rain for two straight days so I was unable to make it outside to inspect the soil. When it finally stopped raining and I was preparing to level out the soil, I quickly realized why he took off so quickly. What they delivered was anything but screened top soil. Instead, what I received was a pile of dirt filled with mulch, rocks, nails, plastic and glass. I've included a pic that shows just a small sample of the things I found in my "screened" soil. I immediately called the store and spoke to a woman named Cheryl. I explained to her what I found and she stated she was going to have someone come inspect the delivery within the hour. Two hours passed without anyone showing up or calling so I called again. Cheryl answered and said she was trying get in touch with her driver and that she would call me right back. 45 minutes later I called again. Cheryl then says "oh, he hasn't arrived? He said we was just around the corner. Let me find out where he is and call you back." After another 45 minutes, I call again and Cheryl tells me, "my driver is tied up trying to fix a flat tire." After I expressed my frustration, she says "I'm only about 15 minutes away so I'll come by myself." After about 35 minutes, Cheryl pulls up to my home. I show her the pile of what they call "screened soil" and all of the objects I found inside. She stares at the pile, perplexed and says "oh, they must have delivered you the wrong soil. This looks to be our garden blend. This mistake has happened before and I'm so frustrated right now." Needless to say, I wasn't buying the crap she was shoveling so I pointed out the fact that regardless of whether this was their screened top soil or garden blend, there was no way either of them were properly screened considering all of the objects I found in it. She stated that she was going to speak with the owner to have someone come back out and take the soil and replace it with what I ordered. I asked her when I could expect a call back with a resolution and she promised to call me back by the end of the evening. That was 9 days ago. I haven't heard a peep from anyone at Denny Wiggers since. Truthfully, the moment Cheryl drove away from my house I knew she had no intention of doing anything for me. Lesson learned. For anyone looking to do business with these crooks, DON'T DO IT. And for anyone from Denny Wiggers who may be reading this, I am now about to become your worst nightmare. I will ensure that EVERYONE knows what type of fraudulent business you are, beginning with the Better Business Bureau. read more

Can't give them 5 stars. Ordered 20 yards of mulch to be delivered and installed. They didn't show on the day scheduled for delivery and didn't call until late in the day. They made it right the next day by taking some money off the bill and charging for only 18 yards. The two man crew worked hard and got the job done in reasonable time. And there is nothing that spruces up the looks of the landscaping than 20 yards of mulch. Makes the house and yard look great.
