In my early 50's, and my feet have never bothered me except for two times: Once when I was 17 working in a warehouse, walking around on concrete all day in converse. Another time working a janitorial job in a school (20k steps a day) and again last summer working in a retail store (20k steps a day). By the end of the day I'd be hobbling when getting out of my car at the end of my shifts. I tried fancier shoes and some of those Dr. Scholls inserts, and they seemed to help very temporarily, but nothing lasting. Even saw my doctor who wasn't able to offer me much except a referral to PT and NSAIDs. I skipped it because I did that a few years earlier w/ a shoulder, and didn't have great luck. Decided to do a google maps search and see someone local who does nothing but feet, who could see the kind of feet that I have, and what I should do about them. Dr. Brandi was able to quickly assess and make recommendations followed up with an email with several links for shoes, slippers, sandals, and shoe inserts. I bought 3 of the inserts she recommended to use in shoes I currently have, plus a great pair of slip on house shoes, and now my feet feel amazing!!! I had been thinking about going to that good feet store they keep advertising on TV constantly and I'm so glad I didn't. This was the most affordable option by far.

I was terrified of surgery because if you google bunion surgery and photos, holy crap, it's not pretty or soothing. But all of the visits... from determining if I needed the surgery, to the informational prep, surgery and all the aftercare, I couldn't have been more pleased. The recovery for a bunion surgery is quite extensive but Dr. Peng did everything she could to ensure it was healing the right way, giving me all the tips and advice and providing me with the right tools and meds to keep me comfortable. At times my cast would be bothering me, and even if I didn't have an appt, and she would have a full lobby of people... she'd still make sure I'd get in, in a timely fashion and get taken care of so I wouldn't be in pain/discomfort. I felt in such good hands with Dr. Peng and I felt like she actually cared about me and the outcome. She was warm, caring, friendly, funny, kind, extremely knowledgeable and had a calm about her that instilled a calmness in you, ESP if you're about to go in for surgery. I never felt uneasy in any of the process and the outcome was incredible. I hardly have a scar and I can get back to doing the things I love without that nagging horrible pain. If anyone is considering bunion surgery, go see Dr. Peng immediately, you and your feet won't regret it. And any foot and ankle needs, go see her. She also helped me advice for sprains and other things. Thanks Dr. Peng and staff for going above and beyond. I will be referring all of my friends and family to you for all their foot and ankle issues and needs.

And with every single doctor I saw, I asked if they could just remove the toenail and they all responded to me like I was asking if they could just remove my foot! The specialist told me that my toenail would basically never attach to the nail bed again. I decided to try one more doctor and thank goodness it was Dr. Bowen! I told him the saga of my toenail and then mentioned the responses to me asking if it could just be removed. He immediately said that removing it sounded like a good idea and he asked if I wanted to do it right then. I practically screamed YESSSSS!!! Within minutes, that pesky thing was off and my sweet toe could start anew. Cut to: it's two years later and I have had a beautiful, fungus-free toenail for a year and a half! It grew back perfectly. I'm so grateful to Dr. Bowen - not only is he kind, funny, and professional, he actually listened to me. For me personally, that is one of the most important things a doctor can do.

This disregard for other people's schedules is not tolerated in other professions... lawyers, accountants, financial advisors, therapists. Not sure why it should be in the medical field. (I made my appointment for a Monday morning specifically so I wouldn't have to wait because of an overly scheduled day.)

I was told Jan. 8th then in Dec. 2024 I was told Jan. 22nd. I went to my appointment to be told it was really Jan 29th!! I went to the appointment on the 29th. Dr. Mah spent 2 minutes with me while I tried to explain the the toenail was causing pain. He said there was nothing wrong with my toenail but I needed surgery and ordered an x-ray. After x-ray he returned for maybe 5 minutes to tell me there was no infection but he needed an ultrasound to determine blood flow. And that he wanted to sever tendons in that toe to straighten it out. After the ultrasound I saw Dr. Mah again on the 19th of February. While waiting I observed other patients who had the same appointment time with Dr. Mah as I did. Again he spent no more than 5 minutes with me. Told me my toes were cold and I needed this medication. At that time he observed the ulcers and did nothing to help that situation. I asked if he was going to send a prescription to my pharmacy and he told me as he was walking away that it cost $50 and someone would call me. Not what the medication was for! I assumed it was for the ulcers. I asked his assistant about the medication and he told me someone was going to call me and if I said yes they would send it! Again not what the medication was. After 2 days I had not heard anymore about the medication. I tried to call the office but there is no option to speak to anyone. They did say that the Milwaukie office would be open until 4 PM. I went to the office and the front counter tried to tell me they were closed. I told them their phone message said other wise. Found out the name of the "cash only" pharmacy and the name of the medication which was basically herbs that was for blood flow and nothing to help the ulcers. Too many red flags to feel confident about him coming near me with a scalpel. I went to my primary care give to be told there was bone exposure and was promptly correctly treated. The ulcers may have been an allergic reaction to topical pain relivers I was using. I have been referred to an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in foot and ankle. Needless to say I would never recommend Dr. Mah or NW Extremity.
