Denny Dennis is a great locally owned outdoors store. The many times I have been in to buy hunting items, guns, or ammo, I have always been treated as a valued customer. Their gun selection is great with a nice variety of new and used, and guns at any price point from high-end to entry level. Anything you want and they don't have, they will order it in for you. Sales staff were very helpful finding ammo that I needed. The young lady at the checkout was more interested in her phone than ringing me out.It was apparent that she had no interest in being there and couldn't care less about customer service. I called their store in Fenton and was put on hold for 4 minutes. After the girl picked the phone up, she told me their gun department was busy and that I would have to wait 15 minutes on hold or to call back later. I was going to purchase a new shotgun ($869.99) from them if they had it in stock. When I told her that I would not be calling back nor doing business with them again, the girl told me "okay" and hung the phone up. It could just be the lack of professionalism in the younger girl answering the phone, but I doubt it. I have to assume that the managers allow that to happen and are okay with it. I will never shop at Denny dennis again. Poor customer service and understaffed. read more

Yesterday while Christmas shopping I was guided here by my Father. He told me of how he use to frequent the store frequently, but had not been in many years. Both being avid outdoorsman I found a hidden gem. I was pleased with the pricing, and the large selection of hunting/fishing gear. During my visit I purchased a nice pair of neoprene gloves for $9.99. I will use for pole gigging fish, and some Browning 17 HMR ammo that was only $8 per box which is id say an average of $5 cheaper than anywhere else I have purchased it at. I called in to inquire about a few handguns that I'm interested in. One of the guys at the gun counter spent at least 10 minutes answering questions and hunting down info for me. That may not seem like much, but someone like me (on the phone) is keeping them from helping a customer actually standing right in front of them, so I was really appreciative for the great customer service. So, these one-star whiners that are throwing a tantrum because they were put on hold for a few minutes need to remember that if they want in-person service, they can walk out of their mom's basement, take the bus to DD's and walk up to the counter like big boys. read more

While shopping for a revolver, there was a young man sitting behind the counter. Looked to be teenage. He was handling a semiautomatic pistol, taking the magazine in and out, racking the slide, etc. (he was not with a customer)I saw the muzzle point at me more than once. I called the day after Labor Day. Their own site said that they are open 8:30- 8:00pm. I'm glad I called ahead. I was placed into the phone cue and listened to the directory and the selections. I chose one for guns. It rang 5 x then the recording told me they were closed. Aggravating. I have similar experiences with the telephone journey as others on this ratings list. They really need to improve this method of communication. Sad part is I think they are staffed well. They just don't give a flip. read more

I need ammo! The local Walmart was devoid of the caliber I was looking for, so the clerk directed me here. Denny's place was well-stocked. Not just with the trappings of a sporting goods store, but also with helpful staff. As previously mentioned, this is a store for the "good 'ol boys". When I walked in (a woman) I couldn't even get anyone behind the counter to acknowledge my presence. I walked out disgusted. Went in there today to buy some gifts, couldn't find anyone very eager to help me out with some info on the items I was considering. I grew up in Jefferson County, but I felt that somehow I looked to "city" to be in there. The young guys were ok, but there was an older guy who was utterly unhelpful, slightly insulting. I know they won't miss my little bit of money, but I won't go back there. Plus, they are priced higher than a similar place on Gravois Road, where the staff were super-helpful. read more
