Denney Jewelers lost my mom's ring -- the gold band and all eight diamonds. My dad died 10 years ago, and this ring was the last piece of him my mom had. It was priceless. Instead of taking responsibility, they told my daughter the eight diamonds were "worthless," that they could "give her 35 of them," and that my mom's ring was "scrap metal" they would have melted down anyway. They acted like losing an irreplaceable family heirloom didn't matter. They also stamped her custom ring as 18K even though it appraised as 14K. I ignored the bad ratings and trusted the good ones when I decided to go to Denney Jewelers to get my ring soldered and resized. That was a mistake that you shouldn't make. At first, I was immensely pleased! They gave me a fair price and even got me my ring way faster than they initially quoted me. But then about a month later, my ring cracked all the way through where they cut it to resize it. I brought it back in and they repaired it for free. But then again in December (another 1 month out from repair) the same thing happened again! They repaired it for free once again. But I'm really not sure why it was not repaired fully last time. Not to even mention the rudeness of a couple of the staff members and the lack of knowledge about jewelry the others have. The woman who helped me the second time complimented me on my gem, "I love the sapphire" The gem is blue sandstone. Would not expect her to know that it was sandstone but that it ISN'T sapphire. I'm putting that one on poor training and management. Overall, my experience has been less than ideal and if my ring breaks again, I'll probably just have to shell out money to a competent jeweler. My husband an I went in person to shop for an upgrade of my wedding set. Denney did work for us over 15 years ago and the experience we had THEN was amazing. This time, a frumpy old woman "helped us" out the door. Literally. She was SUPER negative, using phrases like "We won't have anything you'll like" and "We keep all of our diamonds locked up in the back so nobody steals them" as if we were there to steal from them. We had cash in hand and she wouldn't even take the time or energy to show us anything, as if we were trash and wasting her time. I won't EVER go back to Denney. I never leave reviews but the service I received by 3 ladies who worked here was excellent. I came in with my boyfriend on my birthday just to quickly get my new watch re-sized and it turned into such delightful conversation with all of the women. Two of which were sisters. Great store - very friendly people. We visited the store to have a multitude of jewelry looked at for its' worth. The owner of the store spent a consierable amount of time to view each piece and inform us whether the pieces were gold or silver and their grade. Wife called to inquire about getting work done on my wedding ring for our anniversary and the lady who answered the phone was incredibly rude for no reason at all. She acted like it was a bother to talk to a potential customer bringing money into their business. I cannot imagine the type of customer service they provide when going there in person. I took my watch off my wrist and and left it with them for a new battery two and a half months ago. After being put off repeatedly, I went and picked it up today. I was given a plastic box of parts!!! Utterly ridiculous!! No apology. These guys are despicable! They deserve a big zero, but this review site won't go that low. I have had lots of work done here on our jewelry and they have always done a great job. My wife had lost a diamond in her ring and also had a crack in the band on another ring. I also had a broken clasp on my gold chain . I took all three pieces in and they went over and above to take care of me and also polished the rings so they looked brand new and the chain did as well!!!! Fixed them super fast! We gave one of my wife's Rolex watches to our daughter-in-law for Christmas. Complete with all the thing's Rolex gives you when you buy a watch. Correct outer box, inner box, papers, booklet, etc. While I was looking at a watch for my son we asked the jeweler to remove 2 links from the Rolex. We were certainly ready to pay the appropriate fee for the quick service. The salesperson came back and told us the watch was fake. You can imagine the embarrassment we felt in front of our family. We own several Rolex's between the two of us. They have all been purchased from certified dealers. Very disturbing. Second experience I have had at this establishment that was "odd". They lie about times they tell you for custom jobs and make no attempt to apologize for their rudeness or negligence. I'm in the process of shopping for an engagement ring. I've been to Denney's twice. On the first visit the salesman was nice and helpful. I came back a couple weeks later to try on a ring that I had liked. The saleswoman was abrupt, rude, and handled loose diamonds with her hands (the fingerprints on the diamond make it appear more dull). She also didn't appear very knowledgeable about diamonds, as when I asked her a question about the diamond cut quality, she did not know what that meant. On both occasions, my fiancé and I were the only ones in the store wearing masks. The employees do not have masks, and do not even offer to put on masks when working in close proximity to customers with masks. read more

My fiance and I went to Denney jewelrs on January 9th, we ordered a 2,000 dollar custom ring. We were told it would be 2 weeks to make the ring, after 8 weeks, multiple phone calls, and visits to the store the ring finally came in. It was the wrong size, so they had to remake it and told us 2 more weeks. While we waited we ordered my fiances ring, the owner if the store measured 2 times to make sure the size was right. The beginning of March is when my ring should have come back, after several more calls and visits to the store they called today march 29th to tell us that the rings were lost in the mail and they have no idea how long it will take to correct, and they told us that my fiances ring that was supposed to be a size 5 and 3/4 was ordered as a size 10, when we asked why they couldn't give us a reason. So now we have paid over 3,000 dollars and have nothing to show for it with no time frame of when this will be corrected. We are beginning to think that Denney's jewelry has simply stolen 3,000 dollars from us, and are also starting to feel as if this is because my fiance and I are homosexual. I never expected Denney's to be such a poor establishment, my advice if you are in the market for fine jewelry and would like to be treated like an actual customer I would recommend going anywhere else. For the first 2 months they didn't even have our order in the computer. When we come in the store to check the status of our order they see us coming and hide. The first gentleman that greeted me, my husband, and 17 year old son seemed to size us up right away and not want to waste his time on us. He would frequently walk away and I would have to beckon him. I gave up, just looked, assuming no one would help me. There were 3 other men off in a corner chatting who didn't approach us either. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 star was because salesman Jeff Woods turned things around. He came right over towards the end of my 'lap' around the store, was friendly, laughed with us, seemed down to earth and understanding of our needs. I would give Mr Woods 5 stars! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! Took a pendent in to be fixed. I was told it would be done in 2 weeks...fast forward to 2 months later the pendent is ruined!!! This was a gift that I cherished and wore daily and now I cannot find another one. We have spent thousands of dollars here and always try to patronize local business. I have never been so disrespected and mistreated by a business owner. My husband and I walked out of the store with Shane Denney (the owner) shouting at us that we have never done business with them! This was in front of customers that were shopping. He clearly did not check his records because we have been customers for over 6 years. Extremely disappointed. My grandmother and I walked into Denney jewelers 12/10 to get a very important ring resized. This place was recommended by Jones jewelers because they would be able to properly resize the ring without damaging it. Outstanding and absolutely dependable staff.. Hierloom level Mont Blanc pens with pricing that competes witht the store at Bloomingdales on Michigan Avenue. The diamonds are as good as the one Cartier rates, as I have persaonlly compared their ratings and quality. My fiance and I are getting married in July. We ordered a wedding band from Denney's mid-April. They let us know that it would be 6-8 weeks for the order to come in and that they would call us when it came in. The first week of June rolled around, and we hadn't heard from them. I was on that side of town so I decided to go in and check on it. They are so friendly inside that store, I'll give them that. I got there around 7:15 p.m. and did not leave until they closed that night at 8 p.m. They were able to tell me that my ring was delivered on May 25th-which was great! But they could not FIND the ring ANYWHERE. They were so apologetic and beside themselves that they could not find the order. They assured me that they would call me the next day to let me know the status of the lost ring. They did call me around 11 a.m. the next day to let me know that they had RUSH ordered a new ring for me since they could still not find the original order. So, about 2 weeks go by and I get a phone call on June 23rd letting me know that the rush order had come in. Which is great, still plenty of time before my wedding, right? So I go in that same day after work, which is not on my way home, by the way. I get there, they find the new ordered ring... it's not the ring I picked out. While it is similar to the ring I picked out, it is not the same price, nor does it sit nicely with my engagement ring setting. So, they rush order ANOTHER new ring. They then called me today to let me know that the ring is in, so I took an early lunch break to go get my ring, because at this point, I'm kind of stressing about this whole thing and I really want to just get this taken care of so I can focus on tying up the lose ends of my wedding. I get there, and this ring still isn't right. A discount was asked for on the 4th ring that they are having to order for me and they refused. To me, that is just ridiculous. It was their fault that they lost the first order, that we will never know was right or not anyway. They may be super friendly, but they are unreliable. Their selection is some of the best in town in terms of quantity, although lately they have been bringing in low quality, cheap junk. However, apparently they have all of the business that they need. I have been trying to purchase an item over the phone, and cannot get anyone to call me back. I have tried 3 times over the past week.
