Greeted with a warm welcome from Tressa who recalled speaking to me on the phone the day prior. Sammy was ready to go when I arrived and cut my hair to perfection. Finding a new hair salon can be such a hassle so I'm here to tell you Jackie is a hair goddess…read more Seriously. I've come here I think 3 or 4 times over the past two years (not because I go elsewhere- just because my life is hectic and I'm lazy) and I always love my look better than I ever have before - as in ever in my entire life. It's crazy how much hair can change your entire aesthetic. I usually don't come into hair appointments with much of a direction because I have absolutely no knowledge of what "works" for me and I think that's exactly what Jackie excels at creating. Additionally, I've always been told that I shouldn't go blonde because it would look bad with my dark eyes and an olive-y (not my words- I think I'm pale lol) skin tone. Well since no one likes being told what to do I decided I was going to try it and Jackie NAILED IT with the color - it looked so wonderful on me and I personally like it better than brunette me. She gives you a realistic expectation of what she thinks she can achieve while still keeping your hair healthy and won't tell you that she can do anything she doesn't think is viable. Neither of us thought we would get my hair as light as we did so it was a pleasant surprise :) Aside from talent, this saloon is super welcoming and the staff seems to genuinely get along great. They have all your boujee hair care needs with Kevin Murphy products (if you have super dry hair you neglect for months on end like I do they're a necessity). Last but not least, they're pretty much in a girl gang with the other lady-owned Tremont businesses so whats not to love?

I booked a balayage service for $140, as confirmed by their representative over the phone. However,…read morewhen I arrived at the salon, the stylist was unable to provide an estimate, saying they could only determine the total cost after completing the service. I explained that my budget could go up to $260, and I was even open to other services within that range, but they refused to give any clarity on pricing. Instead, they told me they couldn't proceed if I wasn't fully committed to the balayage. Then, they outright refused to provide me with any service. First, they blamed the confusion on hiring a new employee, but when the owner got involved, she refused to apologize. Instead, she boasted about running a successful business for eight years with 2,000 clients and went as far as telling me that I was no longer a customer--while I was still in the store. I left feeling humiliated and with the following questions: If the subtotal is $140, what is the total cost? (I was willing to pay up to $300, yet the website provides no clear pricing details.) Why was my time wasted when this could have been clarified over the phone? Was I refused service based on my appearance? How much does it cost to treat a customer with basic respect in front of the staff?

PLEASE NOTE~ when I arrived today, before my appointment, I had a beautiful head of healthy, waist length hair!!!! I told Stacey I wanted to cut 3" off of the length & add some fun textured layers. I brought in half a dozen detailed photos of what I was seeking & discussed it with her at length before we began. I am now left with the DISASTER OF A NIGHTMARE you see in the photos. I'm utterly distraught. When I calmly tried to show her the GIANT HOLE she left chopped into my hair, she kept trying to hide it by moving my hair around & then finally disappeared in the back. The manager/owner? Came out & said he'd comp the cut & offered to cut more off to fix the huge hole in my hair but I was so shook up I was trying not to bawl, and I declined more being cut off because I couldn't fathom losing more hair... he then got very cold & dismissive... so I left, basically in tears. Do NOT trust this salon. Honestly, I can't help but feel like this was somehow spiteful or something....

I really cannot say enough about him, Geoff the owner, and his hired staff that he surrounds himself to help him run this salon. The quarantined hair style has gone wayyyy to long, and to have a 3 year old sit still for a proper cut, was a big accomplishment! Geoff was engaging, respectful, understanding, but most of all, was skilled at his profession. The price point was equally spot on. I was extremely skeptical about coming in during COVID. However, a clever friend tipped me off that they are less busy during two times: early mornings and around rush hour. Because they offer online scheduling (such a plus), when I saw an appointment slot open during one of those times, I snagged it. Jeniece did my nails this time and was excellent. I've been here a handful of times, and I swear, all the women that work here are lovely, skilled and talented. I felt as safe as I possibly could have during this weird time in our world. I appreciated the salon's attention to safety protocols, true social distancing and client spacing, and checking-in to make sure you're comfortable. Stella & Shay will forever be a class act to me, made even better by their easy and convenient online scheduling. People self-schedule and flex their own appointments constantly, so if you just stay patient and refresh a few times a day, you may find what you need without trouble. My cousin wanted to get her hair done for Prom, and found this place on her own through internet searches. She made a reservation based on good reviews she read. We got there a bit early and they got her in right away. She showed her stylist a photo of the kind of hairstyle she wanted, which was braids in the front connecting to a bun in the back (I'm doing a poor job of describing it, but it's a fairly simple style). The stylist started doing something, then undid it because it didn't look right, then tried something else again, and was clearly struggling a bit with my cousin's Asian hair (very straight and sleek). I don't blame her for this, since our hair texture can be tricky to work with if you don't have a lot of experience with it. After about half an hour of this she asked a senior stylist for help, which I thought was very appropriate. But then the senior stylist said to my cousin, "You need to make up your mind about what you want to do, because we can't be trying a million different styles. We're wasting a lot of time." I had been watching the whole time from the waiting area, and her attitude and tone of voice with my cousin made me really angry because she was trying to blame the problem on my 17yo cousin. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't want to make the situation worse by making them mad, thereby risking them messing up my cousin's hair. The senior stylist did end up making it work out and the final hairstyle looked good (hence the 4 stars), but her attitude the whole time trying to make my cousin feel like she had done something wrong left a bitter taste in both our mouths.

And she isn't a big product pusher, so you don't have to worry about leaving your appointment with 4 expensive bottles of product you didn't really need. (Though she does have product on hand if you like what you see!) Not to mention, she is incredibly personable and fun to be around. A few things about the studio itself: It's a really neat space that houses many independent hair stylists in their own separated studios. Molly's space is clean and comfortable, with added bits of charm throughout, such as the aromatherapy diffuser that makes the whole experience relaxing. And as a bonus, I really like knowing that my hairstylist isn't just getting a small commission, as she is her own company. I highly recommend supporting talented women like this!
