Should be called Christiana Don't Care…read more These people represent everything that's wrong with our health care industry (formerly a health care SYSTEM). I first saw Dr. McCavera in fall 2022. At my first visit, which was supposed to be my annual physical, I asked her if she could be sure it was billed as an annual physical & not a new patient visit, since my terrible insurance that I pay $200/month for through my employer wouldn't cover a new patient visit. She was very hesitant b/c she didn't want to do anything "unethical." It's the first time in my life I've ever had a doc worry more about ethics with an insurance company more than about the patient. Because health insurance I'm paying a fortune for won't cover new patient visits, which is SO ethical. So I make it through that visit & 6 months later I need my very common prescription that I've been on for 38 years re-filled. I asked them to send it to the Amazon pharmacy. A week goes by & I have nothing. I sent a message through the patient portal (b/c apparently nobody at this practice knows how to speak on the phone). I get a response that "the prescription has been sent to Amazon." That's it. Another week goes by & I still have nothing. Now I'm following up myself, as it turns out the prescription was faxed to the wrong #. If whomever at the practice had bothered truly following up they would have known this, but apparently they just looked at their own computer records & didn't bother following up with the pharmacy. I finally gave up on Amazon & had them send it to my local pharmacy. I sent Dr. McCavera a message, again through the portal, letting her know about these issues. Her response was "there are a lot of moving parts to this so mistakes are possible." A lot of moving parts???? Isn't filling prescriptions the most basic of functions a doc's office performs? Shouldn't there be more follow up on their part, like actually contacting the pharmacy to find out what happened? What would happen if I was really sick????? So I have my next annual physical scheduled for July 9. Unfortunately in the meantime I had surgery scheduled for July 10. I needed clearance from my primary care physician, so I contacted the office & asked if the clearance could be done on that day. I was told it was a separate appointment (even though the service is exactly the same). I asked them if I could change the appointment to a surgery clearance instead of a physical. She said no, if I cancelled the physical there would be 80 patients waiting for an appointment that would have priority. REALLY? I again asked her if I could just change the appointment to a surgery clearance. She said she would discuss it with the "front desk" and someone would call me & let me know. Nobody ever called me. Two days later I called & asked if I could just schedule the surgery clearance with a different doc. They set up the appointment, & I asked how much it would cost since my terrible insurance wouldn't cover it. I was told they didn't know & someone would call me with the #s. Nobody ever called me. So I called again & spoke with the front desk, asking why nobody returned my call. The woman I spoke with was unbelievably rude & arrogant. She blatantly lied, claiming she called me twice & my voice mailbox was full. Not only are there no voice mails in my mailbox, but my phone never rang from their phone # & I had no missed calls. When I asked her why nobody returned my second call regarding cost of the pre-op exam, her response was "I can't answer that." To make matters even worse (if that's possible), the cost for the pre-op clearance was $345. $345 for a ten minute visit!!!! My surgeon referred me to Downingtown AFC, the cost was $90. I had to drive an extra hour, but it was worth not paying an extra $255 for basically nothing. The cavalier attitude, arrogance, lack of follow up, inability to communicate, & general incompetence are just horrifying. I'm not trying to schedule a haircut or buy a bottle of aspirin. This is my HEALTH that Christiana Don't Care is playing with. If you're looking for a doctor (not a PROVIDER, just a doctor) who cares, avoid them like the plague.
