During my time receiving therapy at New Beginning Counseling, I saw Kathryn. I noticed that Kathryn…read morewould double charge me for one session (this continued for all of our appointments), and when I mentioned this, I was refused a partial refund. She also charged me for the free 15 minute consultation. She was 20 minutes late to the meeting, and she charged me for this time. I also agree with Teneshia's review. I felt similarly that Kathryn was not necessarily doing the job of a therapist but rather the job of judging. I felt Kathryn was often on her computer or phone, tuned out of the session, and she failed to be an active listener. To me, it felt like Kathryn valued doing minimal work and getting paid as much as possible. I have gone to other therapists before, but this was by far my worst experience. The customer service was poor, and the therapy provided...Let's just say I wouldn't consider it therapy by any means. If I were a potential client searching for a new therapist, I would avoid this practice as they are more concerned with milking vulnerable clients for money rather than providing a good therapy experience.

Let me start by saying that I had a consult, which is only supposed to be 10-15 min. which isn't…read moreenough time to know someone or what they struggle with. I had a meeting with Kathryn Alabi who, I guess is the owner of the practice. Cool, great, awesome. While I initially looked forward to this consult after reading her profile on Psychology Today I would say I was severely disappointed. Making assumptions, judgments, and unfounded accusations is not trauma-informed. I am allowed to advocate for myself. I also don't think feel that it is appropriate to talk at and down to someone. Communication is key and it takes two, but I digress. I think she thought somehow I wasn't aware that I know how therapy is supposed to work. Or that I was somehow one of those clients who is uneducated about Mental Health etc. Whatever the case may be, going to school and or taking trainings does not mean you are able to apply what you learn from books to life that takes time and experience. Another note some people just do the job for a paycheck. Not because they have empathy, compassion, or understanding. I think clients should be careful paper can look good when it's just inflation or ego and it is important to know the difference because it can do more harm than good especially when entering therapy for the first time. Therapy is a learning experience both for the practitioner and the client. In a way; like art it is subjective not all ideology, rules, or systems are going to apply to all people or situations. It is important for all parties involved to be open in the situation. Being a therapist the assignment is not to tell someone what to do how to live or when they should be past something. It is to guide, reflect, validate, actively listen, give feedback, create safe spaces, educate, help in making informed decisions, create a space where clients can feel heard and seen, be a sounding board, etc. Not everyone is for everybody so I completely agree we would not be a good fit while I am more than sure the other therapists at the practice are worth looking into and researching. While I am constantly looking for was I can grow, expand my knowledge, reflect on self, and improve my overall wellbeing, I am not willing to continue in the search.

Dr. Bronson was an excellent professor, demonstrating competence and knowledge subject matter for both courses. She provided instruction from the textbook, guest lecturers, in-class small group discussion, in-class projects and projects out of class and provided a well rounded experience. Years after my classroom experience with Dr. Bronson, I attended a Mindfulness workshop she facilitated. The workshop was transformative- she provided attendees with research based information along with demonstrations of Mindfulness practices. I attended a refresher workshop facilitated by Dr. Bronson a few years later and brought two friends I felt could benefit from the workshop. I highly recommend Dr. Kris Bronson based on my experience as one of her students and someone who gained a transformative experience from her Mindfulness workshops.

Dr Yacoub is great. He really takes his time with me and remembers personal details about my life…read more He always asks about my boyfriend and he takes his time explaining things. However, this office has some shady billing practices. The company that handles their bills disguises their phone number to make it look like you're receiving a call from the doctors office. Once you call back, you are forced to stay on hold for over 30 minutes before you even find out what the call is even about. When I questioned the rep about calling, he said I owed $150 from over a year ago. Never received a bill and I pay my copay every month. When I questioned the rep further he said oh never mind, "disregard the call" and it looks like I have a visit that was never sent to the insurance and they will send my account over to accounts receivable to sort out all my payments. Forty minutes of my life that I'll never get back. And they woke me up after working a 16hr shift! To say I'm a little irate is an understatement.
