I got here before noon on a Tuesday and it was already packed. Walking in, the place has a no-frills type ambiance, which is okay with me. The service was friendly and professional and after looking at the menu, I went with a shrimp and roast beef po' boy. The food came out pretty quickly and overall, it was an enjoyable po' boy. Prices were fair and it was a pretty good experience and an enjoyable lunch. If you are in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, I would definitely recommend Dempsey's. read more

I enjoyed the food here. I went on a Saturday around 5, and it was packed by the time I left. The ambiance is very diner coded, it's super small and cozy inside. Service was amazing, very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The cheese fries were the star of the show for me, must try! The 10" shrimp poboy is very big and comes with plenty of shrimp. Tasty place for some po boys and gumbo! The chicken and sausage gumbo was delicious and a big portion for a cup. I add Tabasco for extra heat and flavor but it was good without too. The chicken bacon cheddar po boy was also huge and tasty. Service was quick and friendly and prices very reasonable. I will say the atmosphere is very lacking, literally blank walls and little to no decorations, but food and service was good and the tables were kept clean. I went here after wanting gumbo since I couldn't have crawfish. This would have been the second time I would have been trying this gumbo and I bought a quart. I was highly disappointed. This was the thickest gumbo I had eaten ever. Even re heating it was still just as thick.. I'm not sure why this is called seafood gumbo it only has small shrimp and nothing else. No sausage, no crab, chicken or okra is they use it both times I've eaten it months apart from each other. The second time was even worse. No flavor in the gumbo whatsoever hot sauce, the bread and crackers couldn't help. It makes me want to try nothing else on the menu. Needless to say I don't think I'll be back.. read more

The hamburger steak was huge and smothered in grilled onions and brown gravy. I was craving a hamburger steak and it hit the spot. If you have a lighter appetite, you'll need a to-go box. I prefer to come here not at "peak" dinner time so that I can sit and enjoy. There are only a handful of tables so sitting down to eat could be a wait. My wife and I were happy to discover that Dempsey's was open for business. They spaced out the tables for social distancing. The table was being cleaned when we arrived, so there was no worry about the cleanliness of our table. I ordered my favorite poboy, the fried shrimp poboy.
