Unfortunately I now understand the negative reviews mentioned. I will also admit that I may tend to lean towards the healthcare professionals because their are times when patients want the moon and stars and SUN. Now, in all these situations an explanation can often resolve these situations and mutual satisfaction achieved. After an appointment with his his Nurse Practitioner today, if I have to see her again I too will be in search of a new rheumatologist. It was if I was being scolded and questioned on why I asked for a particular (non pain) medication. After I persisted she finally asked Dr Damico and he prescribed something that "should" work but at a cost of $5.00 vs $ 276.00. I was in disbelief of her resentment because I was persistent in wanting basic care. Having worked with so many prominent physicians, and understanding standards of care, TODAY-totally and absolutely avoidable. I explained to her everything she needed to know and why I asked for the Medication because my situation is causing an eyelid infection. Dr. Damico serves as a Primary Care and Rheumatologist, so my request was NOT out of realm for his practice. I find the staff to be pleasant, and never an issue over the past years but today, was ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL AND UNNECESSARY. Having and autoimmune illness, the last thing you want to deal with is any type of infection especially if it's preventable in a manner of days. She appeared to be "testing " me and surprised that I answered her questions with absolute certainty. There are so few rheumatologist in this area (5), the best have retired, in my personal opinion. Patient care is no longer the emphasis. No longer cost concerns for the patient or the ability to pay. She truly is providing in my personal and professional opinion a disservice to his practice and appears as the guard to the gate of care. Dare to be an advocate for your health and/or disagree you will be discharged. To let me know she had the "Win" she wished me a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as a sort of confirmation. Very cynical. I politely wished her the same, except I truly do. I will not contact unless absolutely necessary at this point and will be sharing my experience. I don't want to believe that he knows. read more
