I got by speaking English with aggressive hand language (pointing at the menu really and making shapes in the air). They have an English menu, not to worry, so you can simply smile and point. The cafe had a very french bistro atmosphere to it - very cute and quaint. The place filled up quickly, and at one point there was only one waitress (so expect slower service). However, as many of the patrons seemed to be locals, I think they didn't require fast service as they were pleasantly chatting away. I, on the other hand, had to go up to the waitress when she was making coffee in order to get my check (which is fine to do if you're in a hurry!) The food was fair - the soup, which was the soup of the day so unfortunately to me is unidentifiable, was sweet and creamy. Very similar to tomato bisque with some chives on top. The app I ordered, tuna belly salad, was okay - the tuna was pre-cooked as it was cold. The entree, salmon with asparagus, was very good as well. Definitely worth a venture, as this shop is fairly close to the popular high-end shopping street, Passeig de Gracia, so it's convenient to go to after a hard days worth of spending money.

Catalan Seafood Platter: The platter contains shrimp, squid, clams, and mussels, all dressed in garlic, olive oil, and parsley, with a lemon wedge. Patatas Bravas: This dish is done very well here. Calamari: The calamari is lightly battered and correctly seasoned. This plate didn't last long.

We were served by a friendly couple, Argentinian transplants both, who chatted with us about jazz and idioms. I felt bad for the woman who brought us our empanadas, because she dropped the tray on the way to the table and exactly HALF of each of the three empanadas we ordered fell on the floor, so she had to bring us three new ones in addition to the halves we got to eat. (I did offer to eat the ones that fell, because hey, I do that in my house, but she just gave me a disgusted look.) My favorite empanadas were the espinaca (spinach, goat cheese, and nut) and the atun (tuna, onion, bechamel). They really stood out for the flakiness and lightness of their pastry crust.

Thumbs up to the best food I've had in Barcelona!!…read more This is my first review on yelp and I've used it religiously for years now. But I had to recommend this place because of how good the food is. I've been traveling for three months in Europe now and I've not always been lucky with finding good food (even with useing yelp) Allium is a "slow cooking" restaurant and is in one of the top food books of places to visit in Barcelona. Their menu choice is small but the product is excellent. They use local produce and products and everything is made to order. The flavor in each dish I've had here is great and I don't get sick two hours after I leave. Please give the place a visit, it's worth your time, taste buds and money. If you're a tourist please take note that I've traveled Europe and this is one of the best places I've eaten at so far and I've eaten at a lot of places.
