Dangerously addictive!! I attended Brea's annual 4th of July celebration held at City Hall Park. So much fun!! DeM' Nutz had such a fun booth. Definitely my favorite!! Gary and Dana are using recipes that have been in their family for generations. Best Nutz you'll ever try...the perfect combination of crunchy and sweet pecans and walnuts!! Perfect as a topping on ice cream, yogurt, on the side of a cake, topping for cupcakes, dipped with strawberries and on a charcuterie board!! What they have: Honey Glazed Walnuts Spicy Honey Walnuts Honey Glazed Pecans Spicy Honey Pecans Nutz Dust What I couldn't resist getting... Honey Glazed Pecans Spicy Honey Pecans Honey Glazed Walnuts Pecan Dust Spicy Pecan Dust Don't forget their perfect ending fragrance candles, which smells heavenly!! Btw: no peanuts for those who have an allergy.

I regret to say I only bought one single bag of their spicy honey pecans. I should've bought 1000 bags

These were so delicious! My whole family loved them. The maple and sesame seeds add a great flavor. I can't wait to get more!

I placed the blue Dogders-themed Sho-mochi back on the shelf, promising I'd return soon with ransom money. I never break a promise. A week later, I walked in with a $10 bill and walked out with $3.50 worth of change shuffling in my back pocket. Shohei and I are skipping town. I took the train to a stop far from covetous eyes. I devoured the 1st mochi street side, liberating smooth white chocolate ganache from its stretchy mochi enclosure. Then I ate another one. Was it worth the two trips and the odd feeling of handling paper bills? Sure, because long before Shohei, I've loved Fugetsu Do. Korey's Chocolate mochi is my all-star, named after the founder's great grandson. Years ago, Korey's dad, Brian Kito, was at the Cherry Blossom Festival in Monterey Park, demonstrating how to make mochi. He told us he created this treat because his son likes chocolate. I was hooked. I usually buy their confectionery at the local Mitsuwa or Marukai. It's inspiring, though, to see this shop in real life, standing on First St. as the oldest business still operating in Little Tokyo. Shuttered during WWII when the Kito family was incarcerated, it was rebuilt from scratch when they returned with no money or access to their equipment. The founder's son Roy and his wife Kazuko slept at the Buddist temple while he worked as a waiter to save up. With determination and community support, Fugetsu Do reopened for business in 1946. It is now a piece of living history, a testament to human hope and mochi, stretched and pounded, only to come out stronger on the other side.

Fugetsu-Do is one of the oldest institutions for mochi and Japanese confectionaries, and you'd best…read morecome visit for some treats to experience tradition! I don't think there is necessarily any single flavor that is a must-try (though I haven't tried a lot), so you could be best just choosing flavors that naturally appeal to you. I also don't have a tier list because there's somewhat of a language barrier and a lack of description when perusing their selection. You're best pointing to something that looks cute and just hoping for the best. Also, since there's usually a line to order, you feel bad when you're holding up people. Luckily, I think most of their mochis taste good due to their delicate mochi exterior and well-balanced bean paste fillings. They even have some that are filled with chocolate or other things, and some topped or mixed with fresh fruit. I generally hate red bean desserts, but I don't mind these because the paste is super smooth. The paste is maybe a tad sweeter than I'd hope for, but perfect for the average taster. Parking is pretty annoying since this area is popular. Fresh mochi really will not keep well, and are very prone to degradation, so they will only last a couple days after purchase. Honestly, this type of dessert is not exactly a thing that you'd crave for, but more of a cute, quirky enjoyment that we should continue to support just to keep it in circulation.

You can literally take your time walking around and pick whatever catches your eye. They give you little white shovels to scoop the candy into your bag, and then your bag is weighed at checkout, so you pay based on how much you get. Just be careful because it is VERY easy to fill up your bag, especially when you want to try things you've never had before. I have a few favorites, and I definitely recommend coming here if you want to try something different. I also like that you can collect points and get money off once you accumulate enough. The Studio City location on Ventura is in a great area with other dessert spots nearby, so you can definitely make a little treat run out of it. I would bring friends or guests here, and if I had kids, I would absolutely bring them too. I definitely recommend KANDI if you love candy. Just know that once you start scooping, it can be very easy to go through an entire bag by yourself!
