Long story short: Go to Delta Hearing and use Grant Stevens. You honestly should not use any other hearing aid specialists, and if you do, you're probably not getting the service you should. No one better, and I tried three places, four if you count one three years ago.
Long story long: Three years ago I went and had my hearing tested in St. Louis, where I'm from, because I was saying "what" so often it was bothering me and everyone in my family. I knew I was hearing fine, nobody had to speak up for me to hear them. The results of the test then were that I heard at the correct sound level but I when someone said "think" I'd hear "sink" and many other words like that. They said it was very common in people my age (65 at the time). Then they told me the price and I didn't think it was worth it since I knew I heard people fine, just didn't know what they were saying.
Fast forward to now. I retired and moved to Florida a year and a half ago. Still with the same problem only now I'm calling my kids and grand kids on video calls most days and I'm getting tired of saying what all the time, when the grand kids don't want to stay on the phone that long anyway.
Went to Miracle Ear, took a very unprofessional test and lets just say I'd rather go to a car dealership and try and buy a car before ever going back there. Price on the hearing aids I needed started out at almost $9,000 but if I bought them that day they were about $7,500. When walking out they went to $5,900. I was going to get screwed without even being kissed.
I went to another place across the street and didn't take the hearing exam but discussed the options and prices. They didn't seem to know their product as well as I thought they should and it seemed that the same "car dealership" sales tactics were beginning to be used. So, that's when I called my insurance (Medicare supplement insurance). Well, I'm not covered for hearing aids but they referred me to Delta Hearing. I called the next day for an appointment and they worked me in that afternoon.
Okay, all I can say is I had the best experience and coming from the others I thought I died and went to heaven. Grant made sure my wife was there with me and used her voice for part of the test. Went thru and explained to me what he was doing each step of the way. He even, before the test, cleaned my ears to make sure that wasn't the problem. When he read me the word list that I repeated back to him, my wife had to do all she could to stop from laughing as I was missing so many of the words. Afterwards, he told me what the hearing aids would do for me and showed me on charts exactly why I am having this problem. He never tried to sell me the ones with all the bells and whistles, he showed me what's available, told me about the options, warranties and expenses of having them (batteries, cleaners, etc.) something the others stayed away from because it could hurt their sales tactics (you have to bring this car back and change the oil every 3 months and it's going to need a timing belt one of these days). Grant wanted me to have no surprises.
Needless to say, this is only part of the long story. I cannot tell you how wonderful of an experience it was to use him. I bought them on July 10th, it is October 14th as I write this. He has made sure I have come back to him as often as I wanted to make any adjustments I thought I needed and has spent so much time doing so I feel guilty. The only adjustments I ever needed, by the way, were what sound and environment settings I wanted to use, nothing for problems. He had ALL the top five named brands I researched and then some. I got rechargeable (that can also use regular batteries), with Bluetooth, and a great free program on my phone to make it easy to control them, and I feel I now have a great friend in Grant. PLEASE NOTE, this review is my review of Delta Hearing using Grant Stevens. I'm sure anyone else there is just as good but I have only used Grant. I just love my hearing aids, and I'm serious. read more
