Deli delux Its part of the underground tunnel near McKinney. Enter the 909 Houston Center and go down the stairs. This will one of the first food joints you will reach from this side. The board outside said 'samosa chat' and we were sold. We got one of that and a mango lassi. The chat had raw mangi pieces in it. That is as authentic as it can get with Indian chats, raw mango ! Yummm. The chat was very tasty, perfectly spicy and it came with a little raitha, probably to help the stomach digest, not sure. The lassi was really good too. I believe in the mornings they have various South Indian breakfast items, now... thats rare. Since it the tunnels, the timings are like 7 am to 3 pm, and parking is a challenge in downtown as we all know. But still, would like to come back to treat ourselves with the breakfast . Its a great Indian place to try out if you work in Houston downtown. The prices are not street, but that's expected. read more

Back when I first did this review I was still a bit of a novice when it came to Indian food. Now that I've had the chance to try more places I realize that this place was a lot better than I thought. The staff is always so kind and quick! The Indian Coffee is amazing! Only served from Open to 10am and then 2pm to close, but we are addicted. The food is amazing too. The breakfast tacos are plump (only need one!) and the Chicken Tikka Masala is delicious. I typically get garlic naan as well with it. This place is a gem! I want to add that the owner kept his long-time staff employed during the pandemic, even though business was slow bc so few people were coming into downtown! I really commend and admire him for that. His staff is the same as before the pandemic, which speaks volumes to how he treats everyone. The prices did go up a little last year (but still extremely reasonable for all the food you get), but that is because the rent in that area went up. I've been going there for the last 7.5 years and I still love it! Their Indian food is particular fantastic! I highly recommend the chicken or paneer tikka masala. It comes with naan (plain, butter, or garlic--go with the garlic!), rice, raita (yogurt), and fountain drink/tea. Sometimes they'll have Pav Bhaji and Samosa Chaat--which are also great! deli deluxe is located in the downstairs food court of a business building. it's really casual, usually other people working are there to grab food (next to a shipley's too!). food came out super quick. i had vada pav and chai and wowwww my mind exploded! it was so good, hot potatoes spiced incredibly well and wrapped together in a soft bun. i got to try some of my friend's indian omelet and i think getting both the vada pav with the omelet is absolutely the move!! i got to try the samosa too, also so good with the green chutney that i could drink it (in theory i could, but reality is different). read more

Indian breakfast! *Being able to procure upma and idli for breakfast during my work week is such a treat. I could eat it every day, though I restrain myself. The Indian omelette "po boy" is tasty as well. Chai or a mango lassi rounds it out. The lunch options here are also top notch. *The above review still stands, but now we're in the middle of a pandemic. Most of downtown has shut down and people are working from home, if they're still fortunate enough to have a job. This Deli Deluxe location, in the McKinney Tunnels, is still pushing, along with the Shipley's next door. I decided this morning to call in an order of upma and an Indian omelette. Unfortunately, no masala idli today. It's been four months too long. I was overjoyed to see Manish and Gaby today. They are masked and gloved and the shields are up. Good selection of Indian and American dishes. DD has decent prices, and exceptional service. This is a small place next to Miller's in the tunnel. Every time I pass by it is busy. I see quite a few Indian folks who frequent DD, so the Indian food should be fairly authentic. During my first visit, I saw the stuffed bell peppers and wanted to give them a try. The chicken, rice and carrots were delicious with the bell pepper. I ordered a side of tasty creamed spinach and a delicious, flaky, garlic butter naan. My second side was the mixed vegetables, and they were good. Don't forget to grab a chai after your meal. Great way to top it off. Also, ask for the garlic butter naan. Manish is very friendly and helpful. One day, I forgot to order a samosa, and ordered one after I paid for my meal. I was told not to worry about paying for the samosa...just pay for it the next time I visit. Wow. I expect this type of over-the-top service in the small town I grew up in, but not in Houston. Manish recommended that I try each of his Indian dishes, starting at the top of his menu and working my way down. So far, I have tried the: * dum biryani with chicken: very spicy and delicious. Huge portion, enough for two meals. Recommended. * chicken tikka masala: good blend of spices, not very spicy. Big chunks of chicken with a creamy, red sauce. Less oil residue than the vindaloo, but I think I like the taste of the spicy vindaloo more. * chicken vindaloo: good and slightly spicy, but a small grease film floats to the top and turns me off. * chicken rogan josh: Isn't he a singer? This is probably the spiciest sauce at DD. Delicious and recommended. I had to eat more naan and yogurt sauce with this meal to calm the flames, but I really liked it. The chicken was good, but DDs rogan josh sauce would be great with lamb. * samosa: fried vegetable goodness, like a vegetarian empanada. Not spicy. Very tasty with the included green sauce. Order one with your meal. DD is not a big place and there is some seating inside and just outside in the tunnel. Best to hit DD at non-busy times. Do an early or late lunch. read more

He got very angry because I questioned him on why the price jumped by 68% (in less than 3 weeks) - told him it was too much and decided to decline buying. Came here to pick up lunch before heading to the pool. It is actually located in the bottom floor of a corporate building which we had not realized. We decided to go ahead and order anyways because everything looked so good. They have a wide selection of food including seafood, Indian food, and deli food. The prices were good and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Wrap, so kind of a mix of the deli and Indian foods. The wrap was amazing! I have never had Indian food in a wrap like this, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was extremely flavorful and the sauce was delicious. The wrap came with rice, spinach, grilled veggies, and tomatoes. I also got cilantro sauce and sour cream to top it off, and it was magical. I asked for the wrap medium spicy, and it definitely had a pretty heavy kick. I would go with mild next time I had the choice. This is my gem in the tunnels. Today a co-worker and I were wandering around the tunnels trying to decide on a place to eat. I wanted to come here because I have had the biryani here and it was really good and he wanted to get a burger at Miller's, before going into Miller's we stopped at Deli Deluxe to see the specials and the owner greeted us and proceeded to allow my co-worker and I to sample the specials. Immediately my co-worker expressed that he wanted to eat here after trying the turkey, very seasoned and extremely juicy. Besides having really good turkey, they also serves many other dishes, spanning from philly cheesesteaks, to wraps, to lasagna to tandoori chicken and also biryani which you can request how hot you want it. A one stop all place and each dish I have tried has been really good, though with some of the sides I did have to add some salt and pepper to give it flavor, but for the main course so far they all seem nicely seasoned. Also he serves a hefty portion, i have never completed a whole meal there and I am not a small person, but the portions are really big and for prices that are so low. Today I had a hefty portion of lasagna with two sides and a drink all for under $9. Another plus is the owner is very friendly and he seems to speak with all customers respectfully, he is always asking to see if customers are satisfied. Inside of course there are only two tables to sit at, but just outside his place in the tunnel are extra seating. I enjoy sitting inside his establishment so I can just hear how he interacts with his staff and customers. At the end of my meal I always ask for a chai to go, not like the starbuck chai, but an authentic one like my mom makes. You will need the caffeine after having such a hearty meal. Located in the underground tunnel area. Found it while passing by and was such a pleasant surprise. Has a vast menu of Indian dishes. Had their chai and samosa. The tea was warm and good. Samosa tasted good and had prefect spice level. We oredered it inside at the register and paid at the counter. There is seating arrangement outside shared with other eating joints nearby. By far, the best place for Indian food in the Houston downtown tunnels. While the other places serve the regular Indian restaurant fare, Deli Deluxe serves traditional home cooked breakfast and lunch items. My personal favorites are the poha, Indian omelet, vada pav, upma and Indian coffee. I am yet to try the lunch items and am looking forward to doing so during my next visit to Houston. Add to that, exemplary customer service from Manish and crew and we have a winner. read more

4.5 Stars overall. I went on a Tuesday for lunch and got the Chicken Rogan josh. After reading reviews of how delicious this dish was, I had to try it. Overall, I would say it was pretty tasty. I am fairly familiar with Indian food (specifically curries/gravies) and I would say this was on par, if not better for other rogan josh I have had before. The spice level (spicy) was detectable but left me wanting more burn, but I would imagine that for most people, the spice level is just right. I will definitely come back to try something new - the man behind the counter told me he has Vindaloo on Wednesdays (which he claims is a bit spicier than the rogan josh). One of the best breakfast taco places downtown and great lunch options. For breakfast I normally get egg, bacon, and bean tacos. The eggs are real and super tasty refried beans. The food is so tasty it is hard to believe. I had the Rotisserie Chicken Panini and it was delicious. Deli Deluxe is located in between Shipley's Donuts and Miller's under the Cameron office building. $8 for the chicken tikka masala, which came with rice and a piece of naan. There were only 3 small chunks of chicken...I can't help but feel a bit cheated. I usually make 2 meals out of any lunch I buy, but that's out of the question here, because my second meal would just be white rice. It was nothing special, but I guess standards must be adjusted for dining in the tunnels. I will concede that the butter naan was amazing. Not all naan is created equal- this one's a full step above the rest. The owner said that on Mondays and Wednesdays, they have dum biryani, which is a special way of preparing biryani. Value isn't great, but if you gotta satisfy an Indian food craving, this is your best bet downtown. read more

The curries are a warm tumble of spices and fragrance with a delightfully subtle heat in the back. Tuesdays and Thursdays are Rogan Josh special. It's served with rice, yogurt, a choice (!!!) of naan, and a drink for....$9! Absolute steal for downtown lunch. Their 'dry' chana masala allows the firm chickpeas to shine through the heat. Deli Deluxe is the epitome of deli perfection. Their specialty is their Indian food: chicken tikka masala, paneer tikka masala, saag paneer, chana masala, chicken biryani and more. Indian food is a little too heavy for me at lunch so I've never ordered it, but I'm tempted almost every day...it looks and smells delicious. Besides Indian food, they have so many other items on their menu that it's almost unbelievable. Nachos, mac & cheese, corn dogs, BBQ baked potatoes, lasagna, chicken fried steak, salads, burgers, paninis, spring rolls, hummus, and much more. Their breakfast menu is equally as impressive. Migas, scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, ham, omelettes, croissants, breakfast tacos, etc. An amazing Indian couple owns and operates the deli. Many times I'll order something small and instead of charging my credit card, they just tell me that I can pay them later. They greet me with, "Hi friend!" and Manish immediately calls out my usual order. "Greek salad, no chicken, dressing on the side, red onions, no artichokes, extra pepperoncini!" Considering the number of customers I'm sure they serve every day, that's a pretty incredible feat! The line gets very long in the morning from 8-9 and at lunch from 12-1, but Manish and his staff keep things moving quickly. Get there at 11:15 and there's no line at all. read more

I have no idea why this place isn't called something to indicate that they have AH-mazing Indian food, so I'm out to spread the word! I absolutely love, love, love getting their Tikka Masala lunch special. It comes with a decent serving of curried chicken, rice, a naan and yummy yogurt sauce, and a canned or fountain drink. All for under $10! The owner is also super nice and that only encourages me to return. You can get garlic butter on the Naan which I highly recommend. Also for a little snack, the pav samosa is basically a samosa with the sauces on a little bun. Yum! I was sorry to see Flavors close at this location in the tunnels, but am very happy to see that it was replaced by a worthy successor. Deli Deluxe does many things, but in my opinion, it does Indian food the best. The first time I went, I had a rotisserie chicken sandwich, which was just okay. However, in a subsequent trip, I got the chicken tikka masala, which was rich, spicy, and absolutely delicious, and a steal at $7 (comes with rice, yogurt, and drink). I also had chicken parm, which was also a great value (came with pasta, two sides, garlic bread, and drink for $7), though not as delicious as the chicken tikka masala. Today I decided to go and try a lunch combo posted, which was Beef Lasagna and 2 sides, roll, and fountain drink for $8.99. They offer Indian and American entrees as well as made to order sandiwches/wraps. So pretty eccletic offering at affordable price. I got my beef lasagna with green beans and mixed veggies. So glad to have fresh veggies as a side option! While paying, I heard someone order a samosa so of course I added one to my order as well. They are made to order so it comes out FRESH and Hot! The dipping sauce it comes with is spicy and good. My beef lasagna was excellent and actually had enough for two meals. Really love this unique little place down in the tunnels. They've got such an eclectic mix of foods here, you're guaranteed to find something you'll like. Whether it's po-boys or pasta or meatloaf or Indian food or breakfast tacos- chances are they've got it at some point in time. I've only had the Indian food here, and it's quite fantastic. Fragrant, flavorful, and spicy. The heat is notched up pretty high, but not to the point where I can't handle it. I easily found this place as it was located next to Miller's and I didn't get lost traveling through the tunnels. Only thing I'm nervous about when looking for a new place is that I can't find it. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and one samosa. The chicken tikka is flavorful and nicely spiced. I'm pretty sure I got mild (didn't know I could order a certain spice level as I was a noob to this place) and it had still had a nice heat to it. It was delicious. As for the samosa, it was crispy and the potato spice filling was excellent! This place was a great find and I will definitely be coming back. My friends had the turkey avocado, chic cado wrap, street wrap,. pesto chicken ciabatta and everyone loved their food! The 4 star is because the delivery fee is $15 n we r less than 2 miles away. Great Food. I always order a meal with the garlic butter naan. My fava are the chicken tandoori masala and the chicken rogangosh. The best part is you get FREE soda with the meals. They also serve some chaat items like samoaa, vada pav & bhel puri. My friend also recommends their tea but I have yet not tried it.
