My first time there, the food was great (and not just by Tübingen or German standards), and we had no problems with the service. Of course the spicy dishes were not at all spicy, but that's normal for Germany.
The second time there, we ordered one of the combination meals, and the food was not as good. Still good, but not great. So I'd recommend ordering individual dishes from the menu, that is if you decide to go there at all.
I do not plan on ever going back, because the service was so incredibly rude. (And we ordered in fluent German, so miscommunication was not the problem.) First, when we asked whether we could get a combination meal for 2 1/2 people, because we were 2 adults plus a 3 year-old, the answer was not just a no, which would have been fine, it was a huffy, sneering refusal. We settled on the combo for 2 plus an extra salad.
When we were done and asked to have the leftovers packed up, the real problems began. I really like being able to take home some leftovers to snack on later, so often order a bit extra and/or purposely leave some food uneaten. This, apparently, is blasphemy at Delhi Palace. First the waiter (the woman) complained that there is not enough there to bother with, just a spoonful. We said it could all be combined in one box (there were small amounts of several dishes left). She kept complaining about it, told us we should just eat the last spoonfuls, and guffawed about how stupid we'd been for thinking we needed more food than the combination for 2. I had no intention of justifying my desire to take home leftovers to her, so just waited, in horrified amazement, while she ran through her many complaints before finally taking the dishes away. We did get our box of leftovers in the end, and I enjoyed my snack later, but what a bitch.
Since we had no intention of ever returning, we decided to leave a tip entirely in small change. No coin enough to really bother with, although added together enough for a passable tip. Hopefully she got the message. read more
