I admit it, I am a bit of a food snob. I would rather stay away restaurants that are part of a…read moregroup and frequent the smaller, more individual places. But last Saturday evening me and my friend were hungry, we had both had bad days, and we wanted food pronto. I didn't particularly care to drive around for an hour while I found the most authentic place to eat - I'm not stupid! So this is how we ended up at Red Peppers, my choice of sophisticated dining back when I was a teenager. I was actually quite pleased to be back; it was lively and fun, packed full of families and groups of friends - it seems Red P is the place to be for a celebration in Esher on a Saturday night. The moment we sat down our helpful waitress brought us a dish of free olives - you should know that I get disproportionately happy when I get free food, however small. We ordered a couple of glasses of Cabernet Sauv, nothing to write home about but perfectly decent to wash down dinner. The menu is huge, almost a bit too much choice. A lot of it is quite generic - starters are things like nachos, garlic mushrooms, baby back ribs, mains (which are huge), are foods like steak, burritos, fish, pizza or pasta. There are lots of side dishes as well. We ordered the Calamari to split as a starter which was very good, although my friend said that her main of fish cakes was 'so-so'. I had a small salad of roasted halloumi cheese over cous cous and roasted veg, which was perfectly decent, but didn't make me ooh and ahh in delight. The garlic pizza bread with caramelised onions and goats cheese that I had as a side was much tastier. I walked out completely stuffed, and the amount of carbs consumed had raised our serotonin levels sufficiently so that our bad day had been revised to a good evening, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that the food was responsible for that.

The young girls (ages 7 and 4) of course ate pizza. I had the Lamb Moussaka. There were no complaints whatsoever with the food. What was the best thing about the evening was how friendly the service staff were, and that we were not rushed at all. We will be returning again in September, and Red Peppers will be included in our culinary itinerary.

Delicious dim sum for the discerning diner…read more If you prefer "clean eating" and do what you can to avoid processed food with additives and preservatives, then you'll love Naturally Chinese. No MSG! Special diet? Plenty of vegetarian and Gluten Free (GF) options! You can relax and order with confidence that your meal will taste good and be good for you too. I've made at least three visits, including today's and my favorite items (all ordered as GF) have been: - Steamed Crystal Prawn Dumplings - Prawn and Chive Dumplings - Spicy Mixed Vegetable Dumplings (love the peanuts!) - Taro and Minced Pork Croquettes (crisp and flaky -- possibly my favorite thing here) - Fishcakes (Cuttlefish and Coriander) -- bright flavors - Turnip cake The staff is friendly and the ambiance is peaceful with lots of natural light. On a relaxed weekend, Naturally Chinese is worth the trip to Surbiton. It's in a charming area, just a short walk from the train station. Already looking forward to my next visit. :)

It's located at the corner of the old Yum Cha restaurant site, ironically they didn't used to serve Dim Sum! The decor is quite modern, but too sterile & western for my taste, but that's my opinion. The menu is the type where you tick the items we ordered, Prawn cheung fun, fried dough cheung fun, chickens feet in black bean sauce, beef honeycomb, custard egg bun, egg tarts, cuttlefish cakes, fried taro croquettes, fried won ton, har gau, siu mai, steamed ribs in black bean, Vietnamese spring rolls, crispy noodles with shredded pork, steam beef balls & congee with pork & preserved egg....lots I know, but there were 6 of us! Stand out dishes were the beef honeycomb, egg tarts & taro croquettes, all were freshly made & came to the table hot! They are also proud to be MSG free, thumbs up to that. All in all a good experience, great value, the staff were friendly & food was authentic, a rare find in the leafy suburbs of Surrey. My only worry is the demographics of the clientele in the area, I hope many others will find this neighbourhood gem.

The host greeted up and asked if we had reservations on that fine Saturday evening; we did not. He found us a table anyway but told us that he needed it back in 2 hours (no problem). Our server came along and took our drink orders fairly quickly. She was attentive, but not overly, for the rest of the evening. Our food was good. The kids pasta dish was pretty bland, but that was probably on purpose. My goat cheese salad was very good. So was the chicken and walnut salad my friend had. I think that the only complaint was from my husband who thought his baked crepe with mushrooms was a bit too greasy. His French Onion soup was excellent though. The presentation of the food was great. I have added some pics.

It was not busy and people working their were avoiding eye contact with us while waiting at the door and wasn't even given a hello just a hère pointing to the closest table. The menu has " Specials " which are printed in a misleading way on the menu and made the lunch much more expensive then expected. Which also the servers were extremely uncouth about explaining. The béarnaise sauce was so sweet it tasted more like cake frosting. This meal was almost double the price I expected with poor service and not even good food. I would strongly recommend you go anywhere around. We made the mistake for you.
