Seemingly with no other choice, we agreed. The next day, a different technician came to do the work. He started dismantling the sump pump without bothering to unplug it from the electricity, and as karma would have it, the pump which was supposedly "beyond repair" turned on and blasted him with sewage water (of course blasting the rest of our basement too, covering various things with the stink). He had to spend the next couple of hours cleaning it, and of course the pump was just fine. But despite him not actually replacing it, and himself saying that he has "no idea" how it broke, how it started working again, and how long it would continue working for, the company still charged as $150 for "fixing" the pump! Completely incompetent and shameless. I called them trying to get it refunded but they were dismissive and rude. Will see them in small claims court.
