This is by far the most unique fair that my wife and I have gone to so far. I found this by looking up county fairs in NY. It was also about 2 and a half hours away from us, so it was perfect. It is crazy far off the beaten path. It takes about 25 minutes to get there from the highway. So, unless you are decently close, I do not recommend it.
Unlike other fairs that we go to, this one did not have good signage. There was one of those lawn signs a few blocks before it, and another one a town before, but no big signs telling you that the fair is going on. Luckily my GPS knew where to go. For some reason, they didn't let us park in the parking lot, they directed us and most other cars to the armory across the street. About 20 minutes before we left for the day, they announced that anyone parked there needs to move, so we wrapped up our day quickly.
Even on property, there wasn't signs pointing us in the right direction... We were ahead of the crowd, and we kinda walked around aimlessly until we found a gate. It is $8 to get in, so very nice price!
One thing to note... If you are used to paved roads, well... there are very few on property! While the bulk of the fair is paved, many roads are gravel or dirt! Expect to get dirty lol!
As soon as we walked in, they were doing karaoke! Mountain music by Alabama. They had a park map up on a board, but they didn't have any to hand out... I know many people come year after year, but new people do not know their way around....
We explored for a little while, saw some sites, some animals, walked over the dirt racetrack, saw the rides! We then stopped at Steiner's for lunch. Probably the cheapest lunch we have ever had at a fair! So, we got a nice little spread for much less than we are used to paying lol! We also stopped a few times and got some fresh squeezed lemonade. We usually bring lunch and dinner home for the next day, but nothing really sparked our interest. It was all burgers and dogs at almost every stand. I did want to get a dessert, but we were parked in the armory and had to wrap up.
We had fun looking at the various vendors, a few caught our interest. I wanted to get some cool socks, but they weren't my size sadly... We picked up some cute cat bowls!
The setup doesn't "flow" ... Most other fairs that we go to flow nicely, this one seemed a little jam packed, and you had to backtrack a few times to be able to see everything. The staff as well as guests were all very friendly!
All in all, a unique fair. Friendly staff! Needs more signs. Needs more food vendors. Pave the roads. We did have a nice time though! read more
