    Eastern Market

Definitely a cool stop in (or near?) eastern market in Detroit. It's 3 floors but the one you…read moredefinitely want to check out is the first. They sell edible goods local, foreign, and basic. The problem is that everything is somewhat to grossly overpriced. The local stuff sure - for example, I paid $2.50 a piece for Bev's Bagels (decent, nothing compared to mid tier NYC bagels but better than the vast majority of what you can find in southern Michigan). But for basic (or even foreign) goods it seems ridiculous to buy here instead of a normal grocery store or one of the myriad ethnic shops around. The real star is the cheese selection. They don't have much out, but they have a multi-page list of what they have in stock and they are both knowledgeable and generous with samples. I picked up a really interesting 12-year aged cheddar and tried a few others. There are always a couple of samples out but I've found them unexciting. They have an equally impressive list of meats but I haven't had the chance to explore those. Take the original (and super cool) elevator up to the second or third floors and you can find all kinds of knick knacks from lawn ornaments to Detroit gear. I'm not sure if it was a sale or not, but the last time I was there I picked up a decent quality t shirt for a mere $10. Overall it's a cool store and definitely worth checking out, but unless you're looking for a particularly rare cheese the likelihood of finding anything worth purchasing is slim.

The store is clean and well organized and the employees are friendly and helpful. One of the best things is you can try/taste the cheese. Ask for a taste of a particular cheese you are interested in and an employee will cut the cheese and give you a taste. If you go to Eastern Market, give DeVries & Co. Cheese shop a try. Nice selection of cheese and sauces and gifts in 3 floors.

Store is very cute, fast service. Sounds like all the other negative reviews were about the delivery service.

Today is July 17, 2026. At 1pm I asked the concierge at the Hotel I'm staying where I could buy flowers for an event that I'm going to tonight. He sent me to Ashley's , said it was a 5 minute walk . When I got to the florist I said hello to the woman, she didn't say hello back or even look up. I said how are you doing today? She said the word "Busy" and still didn't look up. By that time I needed to use a restroom and said that I would be back to buy flowers and asked where the restroom was. She said Not in this building. I went next door to the hotel connected to her build and they were gracious and let me use the restroom. I went back to the florist and said I'm back and I need to get flowers for an event tonight. She started yelling at me "Thanks for the heads up! You people think that I can come up with arrangements in an instant!" I said "No problem, I'll go somewhere else, you just lost my money." I'm glad there was someone else standing there to witness this interaction. I can't believe she treats customers like this. Went back to my Hotel and told the concierge to never recommend Ashley's Florist and told him what happened . He was very apologetic and said noted, I'll never use that florist again either. She has zero idea who I am, I'm telling EVERYONE that I do business with never to use her. She just lost out. Had she been nice she could have gotten a lot of business from me.
