Wonderful Polish centric art/craft store in downtown Hamtramck. This store has a fairly large selection of artworks that includes ceramics, glassware, matruska , woodwork and the list goes on and on. Lots of nice authentic artwork to see and appreciate, definately NOT MADE IN CHINA, where my personal favorites were their large Christmas ornament selection and their glassware. To that end, I ended up buying a couple beautiful whiskey glasses to add to my bar collection with the Polish Eagle engraved on the heavy weight glass. These glasses are visually stunning and will be very much appreciated and a talking point for my extended Polish family. (: Whether you are Polish or not, there is so many nice/beautiful things to see at this store that you should definately check it out if you are in the area. In a world that is full of cheap junk/trinkets that are mass produced a store like this stands out for both its quality and beauty and should not be missed if you are in the area. Store is pretty cool. Enjoyed talking with the manager.BEWARE Of PARKING- anywhere near here. Fed the parking meter - manager explained to 4 of us about them. Said if Meter is expired- add more $$ before leaving. Meter was blinking green and said no violation. 1 week later received $25 parking ticket- says I was 4 minutes late. Contesting it. As a first generation Polish gal, Polish Art Center is near and dear to my heart. So many beautiful pieces found within. From pottery, to crystal, textiles, art work, dolls, jewelry, toys, t-shirts and other Polish-centric schwag, books and more. I always find something beautiful here. Most recently I picked up a few books on Polish folk art and paper cutting. At Christmas you can find ornaments and other holiday decor, at Easter look for pisanki, wooden painted Easter eggs. The name is a bit confusing, the Polish Art Center sells Polish imported items, and is not a type of community center. And it worth checking out, both for gifts and just to window shop. They have Polish foods and candy, ceramics, books. apparel and tchotchkes. I stopped by in December and they have a lot of ornaments. I will note they are pricey, I'm guessing this is due to the import costs. Worth checking out! read more

They sell beautiful items... I used to order Polish language books, icons, and a smattering of cute Polish tchotchkes for my home. Sadly, a posting on Instagram alerted me to the fact that the owners' political views may not be as inclusive. They're allowed to believe what they want, but the public should be allowed to know where their money goes. A business catering to those with Polish ancestry should be a little more subtle about their views on modern day immigrants and folks of other religious backgrounds. Disappointing. read more

My brother and I visited Detroit this past weekend and stayed in Hamtramck, which has a really interesting history as a diverse immigrant community. In the past, the city was very Polish, and now it's the first city to have a majority-Muslim population! Since we were staying in Hamtramck, we wanted to explore it as well as Detroit. So we spent a few hours walking, shopping, and eating in Hamtramck. We stopped into the Polish Art Center for a little shopping. And I'm glad we did! What a fun store. It has Polish everything: amber, stoneware, t-shirts, books, Pisanki (eggs), and more. Tchotchkes galore! I walked out with a stoneware bowl, a wooden egg, and some pierogi socks. I was shopping online for some Pysanky merchandise and ran across the Polish Art Center and almost placed an order when I realized they were just a few miles from me down I-75! Ah, the joys of living in a culturally diverse area! So I took my Polish mother (along with my son and stepdad) to take a look around. The shop was bigger than I anticipated (I uploaded a photo of one half of the first room). They have books, videos/DVDs, tapes/CDs, food, candy/chocolate, clothing, artwork, ornaments, Pysanky, jewelry, toys, glassware, and more! Every direction you looked there was something neat to look at. All three women who we saw working were extremely helpful. I was interested in Pysanky books and didn't see them on the shelf, so I asked and she said they usually keep them in the back (generally only displaying them for Easter) so she brought out a stack for me to look through. I didn't see the other item I was looking for (an electric kistka) so I asked and within moments, I had one in my hand. They answered all our questions, chatted with me about my son, and even talked with my mom a bit about her Pysanky. It was like talking with family. And then as we were about ready to leave, my stepdad asked for recommendations for Polish sausage, and received directions to a nearby market...so we also came home with sausage...which we will be eating for dinner in about an hour! I highly recommend this place, and will definitely go back if and when I need a Polish fix. love it !!!!! Growing up in a family that takes polish-ness very seriously, I've been coming here a week before every holiday on the catholic calendar for my whole life. They have really nice hand made things and a friendly staff! They have Christmas ornaments, hand made Easter eggs ,scarfs  , shoes , shirts , toys , treats , you name it . when I was little I was amazed by this place , and I still love to come here when I get the chance ! My only complaint - the staff is not very friendly - like at all . Kind of a weird vibe in there lol. read more

I visited around Christmas--such an amazing store! A truly unique and charming location with friendly and helpful employees, and culturally important, especially for those of us Midwesterners with Polish heritage. Living in Brooklyn now, I loved coming home and spending time here. I bought postcards including one from Poznań, where my family is from in Poland. Sometimes when traveling, you come across places and wonder how they manage to stay afloat. That was my first thought about the Polish Art Center. Upon further reading, I learned that Hamtramck is Michigan's most internationally diverse city, with roughly 15% its current population being of Polish origin. Being of Polish descent myself, I thought the PAC would be an interesting place to check out. They have a vast array of items for sale, all made in Poland. I purchased a beautiful Pajak, which is a chandelier that is handmade from straw and brightly colored paper flowers. The saleswomen were friendly and helpful, answering any questions I had. I was also given a handout which listed other Polish attractions in the area. According to the handout, they also have classes available the center. I definitely suggest a visit to the Polish Art Center on your next visit to the Detroit area! read more

My wife and I have stopped in this center during our last couple annual Michigan trips. We are amazed at the amount and quality of the merchandise displayed. Although this is a great place to buy stuff for ourselves, we find we've bought more things as gifts for others. The center offers hard to find, off the wall stuff you would have to travel to Poland to find yourselves. The owners are usually there to share stories of how items are found and acquired. I was brought up to be proud of my Polish heritage and this place just makes me happy. If going to Hamtramck, don't forget to also eat some great food at one of the awesome Polish restaurants just a few blocks away (Polonia and Polish Village) and stop at the New Palace Bakery for delicious treats. read more

I'm going to say that this place was fascinating. There were so many interesting items: books of all sorts, children's toys, jewelry, pottery, and woodcrafts. I think we spent at least an hour looking and deciding on our purchases. One of the things that made shopping here so interesting is that the majority of the items we looked at were all hand-made and as a result were all unique works of art. The center of Polish culture in Hamtramck is very well equipped. There is nearly any product you could hope to find at souvenir places in Poland or stores in NYC. The attention to detail for the decorations is superb and it's worth stepping inside just to walk through. read more

I have mixed feeling about the PAC. On one hand I love walking in the store and seeing all the Polish items, on the other hand many of the items seems to be ridiculously over priced. Last November I purchased a fleece blanket with the Polish eagle on it which I paid $15 dollars for. At Christmas time I was going to give it to someone as a gift and when I took it out of the plastic package it was about as thick as a bed sheet. I would have felt I overpaid for it if it cost me $10 let alone the $15 I paid for it. I would have been embarrassed to give it to someone as a gift so it ended up being stored in my basement. One other example would be the pierogi refridgerator magnets that they sell for close to $4 that look like they were made a 8 year old in art class. I wouldn't pay more than a dollar for it. Those are just two examples, but there are many items at PAC that have given me sticker shock. I don't know, maybe they charge more because they really don't have much competition. Not a bad place to visit, but be on the lookout for overpriced crap or just overpriced items in general. I gave PAC three stars, but I wish I could have given a 2.5. read more
