I wish I knew his name but he often does the drive thru and he is so sweet. I've been going to this Del Taco for 15 years. I average 2-3 visits a week. Yes, I'm hooked; don't judge me. The last several visits they have SIGNIFICANTLY skimped on the food. The bean and cheese burritos have so little cheese and sauce you can barely see it even. The chili cheese fries, the chili and cheese covers only 1/4 (no exaggeration) of the fries. And then the latest, I got the 3 layer queso nachos and the cheese was Literally on ONE chip. ONE. So I brought them back in and the sweet guy fixed it but as I'm walking out I hear who I assume is the owner complain to him about not charging me AN EXTRA DOLLAR "for extras." So I walk back to her and tell her how ridiculous she was and how charging me for the Regular amount is exactly how she's going to lose a lot of customers. I know I'm not the only one. 15 years I've been going there. I will NEVER go back just on principle. I'll drive 10 minutes out of my way just to go to the Dana Point or Aliso Viejo locations. Sweet guy, I'll miss your kindness. But this economy is hard enough. Blatantly getting ripped off shows how little the owner cares about their customers. This Del Taco looked like a new clean location. I was driving home late at night from LA to San Diego and I passed two other Del tacos that were open because this one was right off the freeway come to find out it is not open 24 hours. There was employees inside the lights were on there looked like there was six cars in the parking lot However, upon going to the speaker, there was a sign I pulled around and saw that other people were being humped at the window so I thought oh maybe they're taking online orders only try to place an online order... Did not work in that timeframe and Employee came outside with a new sign Extend their close hours even further.. If I had known, I wasn't gonna be able to order anything I would've stopped at one of Del Taco's but I'm not doubling back and unfortunately between here and my house there's no more 24 hour del tacos. Been going to this location for 10+ years, and it's always been above average. Then they got some very good managers, and it got even better. I don't know exactly when, but it seems like after the remodel, it went downhill. I don't think I'm exaggerating to say that 80% of the time, at least one item was missing. But I just dealt with it. Today, we were missing one taco (that we paid for.) None of the other tacos that we paid to add sour cream to ... had any sour cream. Not happy about that, but that's part of fast food and drive through (even though it never use to happen here.) But the final straw is instead of remaking a taco where the shell had cracked, they just slapped a new shell around it. This location is a struggle-bus at times. My kids and I used to have a tradition of driving through Del Taco before school on Fridays. A cheap and easy tradition. My daughter is picky, the only thing she'll eat are off the value menu thankfully, the Chicken Ranch Rollers. Nothing else will she accept. Her usual order, 3 Chicken Ranch Rollers. 2 for breakfast and saves 1 for her lunch. My son is a garbage disposal, so he and I usually order a few of the cheaper breakfast burritos. Our little tradition hit a pothole last month. My daughter's were delivered as Fish Tacos. 3. Fish. Tacos. Ugh. "Sorry, honey. It's too late to fix it or else we'll be late for school." She chose the hunger strike option. No breakfast and no lunch. Thanks to Covid, parents can't drop off a lunch. Fast forward to the following Friday. We leave an extra 10 min early to allow for the drive-thru line. But this time...we waited OVER 20 MINUTES for the same order! Only 2 cars ahead. But now we're stuck and I don't want my daughter to have to go without again...so we wait...even though we're going to be late. When we finally got to the window and got our order and pulled away...guess what my daughter received as her Chicken Ranch Rollers substitutes...you guessed it. 3 Fish Tacos. I parked and tried to go in to get her Chicken Ranch Rollers...but it was 7:30am and they wouldn't open the door. So for the 2nd consecutive Friday, my daughter is going without breakfast, and this time, she's late as well. Haha. I don't know if I've been to a worse drive thru. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and chalk up a bad experience to maybe a one off, but every visit to this Del Taco has been bad. Not for the food, but for whoever is manning the drive thru. Greeting "what do you need?" is bad enough but then "is that it?" after I ask for fries, cutting me off then snapping at me for the size. It's truly remarkable how slow this drive thru is. Never seen anything like it. And it's not just because there's usually only one or two people working late. The one over in town center in Aliso always has one guy working it by himself late night and it moves just fine. This place is literally like 5-10 minutes per car if you go after like 11 pm. I'll give them 2 stars because it seems ok during the day, but they need to sort their late night problems out. No one wants to wait 25-30+ minutes at 1 AM behind 5-6 cars for a burrito. I always think, "Who has time to review a fast food place?", now I get it. I had an experience that I am now having to take the time out of my day to let the world know to avoid this place. I've come to this Del Taco about a dozen times over the last year and usually had your average fast-food experience. I worked retail through high school and college so I know what these workers deal with working with the general public. I give fast food places a lot of slack when I am their patron but last night was bad. It was about 9 pm on 08/02/2020. I used the drive-thru and paid for my purchase only to realize I forgot to have them scan the QR code on my DelTaco phone app for a coupon. When the drive-thru attendant came back with my food I asked if he could please use the coupon. He said no because the transaction was completed. I would normally accept this and move on, but I suggested maybe he could refund my whole order and ring it back up, but with the coupon this time? I know it can be annoying to handle a request like mine, and I normally don't ask for favors, but I really wanted to use this coupon, it was the only reason why I chose to go to Del Taco that night. He looked a little upset I even gave him a rebuttal. He asked what looked like an older guy (Manager?) something then returned to me and asked for my credit card and my phone. I happily obliged, handed over my phone and credit card then double-checked my order while they were "helping" me. I noticed one of my burritos was missing so when the drive-thru attendant walked back to me I let him know nicely that I appreciate the help and also I was missing the burrito. He again looked disgruntled, didn't say anything, and turned around. I watched him go to the prep area and retrieve a burrito. He returned to hand me the burrito and to let me know, and I quote, "Please remember to have your coupon next time, you are holding up the line". I looked in my rearview mirror and there was one car behind me. One. I looked back at the drive-thru attendant and said I apologize, but I have had to sit in thousands of lines and wait for other people to finish their transactions. He just stared back at me. The whole time the older worker (Manager?) is fiddling with the register. This has taken all of 3 minutes so far. The attendant walks to the register and then returns to the window and barks that my phone has turned off and hands it back. No problem, I unlock it, hand it back. Another minute goes by and the attendant returns to show me a receipt with the original refund amount of my order at -$9.82 and advises it will take a few days to show up on my credit card statement. He then hands me a folded receipt saying that is the transaction with the $3 off coupon applied. I thank him again because he did get my coupon applied and then I drive off. I was not really happy that I had to tell him how he should apply the coupon since he said he couldn't (He lied or had never dealt with a refund before?). Also not happy that they forgot one of my burritos and then told me I was holding up their line. *News Flash* I don't pull away from drive-thru windows without checking that all of my items are there anyway. I would have been waiting for you to make my missing burrito anyway. Well, it gets better. I get home and look at the folded receipt to confirm a charge for $3 less than the $9.82 original charge. NOPE. I see my original order, the $3 off coupon, AND 2 medium drinks @ $2.49 each as well as a Chocolate shake for $3.99. I never ordered any drinks, let alone 3. I am only one man. See picture. Total charged with tax - $16.25. Well, they did get my coupon right at least. I am not saying this is intentional, but I almost feel like it was at this point given the rude interactions with the drive-thru attendant and what appeared to be a struggling manager dealing with my request. So all and all, as it stands, I was OVER charged $9.66. Next time I am in the area I will be stopping by to get my $9.66 back. In this time when a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet, bs like this is unacceptable. It's down to the principle now, I don't want a place like that getting my hard-earned money. I will also mention the drive-thru attendant was wearing a mask and gloves. BUT, the same gloves he handled my burrito/food with, were the same gloves he handled my credit card and phone with. Gross. I've used other drive-thrus during the pandemic and have seen better ways to deal with taking payments and handling the food. I ended up just throwing it all away when I got home due to this. Hope the franchise owner or Corporate reads this so they can help train their staff better. I won't be coming back to this location except to get my money back. I'll be surprised if the refund for $9.82 even shows up, if it doesn't, that means $26.07 for what should have been a $6.58 transaction for food I didn't end up eating due to gross standards. read more
