Del Mar Veterinary Hospital - Cat - Veterinarians Near Me - St. Augustine, Florida

If I could give some many minuses I would. I've been a customer of Del Mar Vets for quite some time I called because my puppy was in trouble and needed to have an appointment right away. He was vomiting and had extensive diarrhea. I was told that I could come the next day around 11:00 or 4:00 . I told them that it was an emergency because my puppy was going to the bathroom extensively and he needed to be seen she put me on hold again and told me that I could go to an emergency vet that was over an hour away where he had surgery. I told her that they were my vet and that could why couldn't they help me out she told me again that they had back to back appointments . They are no longer my vet . Be very careful if you have an emergency with your dog or your cat they may not take you if they have back to back appointments . read more

Paid 75 dollars up front for them to weigh my dog and do nothing else. They gave me two scripts and told me to bring him back after he has taken the pills to even work with him. There supposed to be a veterinary hospital that takes a different approach to deal with difficult pet's. I didn't understand that they couldn't even do nails or shots unless the dog was heavily sedated. So I spent 75 dollars for them to do nothing and anther 45 dollars for meds I wont give him just to have shots and a nail trim. These vets charge some much and do very little. I dont know why they get paid when they do absolutely nothing. Very disappointed with this place and wont return. He didn't even end up getting shots or his nails done at all. I refuse to have to drug up my dog to have him treated for shots and a nail trim. Then they didn't even refund any part of the visit. Unbelievable read more

A little pricey! It was $75 deposit before the wellness check up and after $310 so it was $385 for a wellness check up and another $65 for the fecal exam which I had to refuse since blood was drawn anyway. And that was including a veteran discount. read more

Such horrible people. Took our dog in for a shot and my wife mentioned a bump on her. Said it would be $160.00 to remove the bump. After treating the bump he said that he may have not gone deep enough and if the bump didn't get better to bring her back and he would treat it again, insinuating that there would be no charge. After two weeks the bump was still there so we took her back. No mention of charges this time. Charged us another $160.00 for treatment and also charged $30.00 for an "exam" which we didn't request. This place is only interested in making money. Read prior reviews which state the same. Price gouging seems to be the norm. I emailed the facility and told them that I would dispute the charge with my credit card company. Their response was to threaten me. After multiple emails back and forth they further threatened me and belittled me. The vet seems to be a nice person, his wife not so much. They say opposites attract and in this relationship it is quite obvious that this is true. If you were able to look at the wife's (Mellisa Escribano) Facebook page which has now been changed from Mel Escri to Escri Susa, you would see that she is racist against white people. More to come. read more

Have been bringing my dogs and cats here for years now. Service is always amazing and the animals are well cared for. Pricing is always fair as well. Over all would recommend to anybody looking for a fantastic vet. Staff is always extremely friendly. read more

I would give a zero star if I could. Our very active 3 year old dog became very I'll in a 24 hour span. Couldn't keep any water down wouldn't eat anything by day 3. We called Del Mar vet and asked for a appointment as at this point I was staying up worried sick. They scheduled me to bring Kai in the next day at 11:00. Which was this past Saturday. By that morning kai was lethargic, dehydrated and had not kept any water down at all. From walking in we were told he would be seen and after kai throwing up on the floor in the clinic water they took kai and said to be back at 2:30 to pick him up and they would call with updates etc. I got a phone call at 1:40 that the vet was just now looking at kai although the other employee knew and I had written everything down. They gave him no fluids IV at this time. The vet tells me at 1:40 so he's going to do blood work, I gave permission. He was saying it could be a obstruction and I was bawling. As I'm on the phone saying yes to the blood work he's telling me Kai's dehydrated and I'm asking could his ear infection be the problem? He says no. He then calls me back an hour later 2:30 ish saying he doesn't know what type of ear infection, now he wants to sedate my lethargic dog and do X-rays although the blood work all came back good showing no signs needed for that. Then he says we are up to $1900 as of now if we do that and I said why would you do that I'm not comfortable with that if his blood work is good. I said why haven't you given him any fluids when you knew he hasn't drank or ate in now 4 days you have said he's dehydrated and he's been in your care for almost 5 hours? He had No answer. I said how are you going to treat a ear infection if you don't know which infection or right medicine to give? Again No answer he was just adding things on the bill irrelevant and tried to apologize when I said why are you even talking about that when my dog might die? and we weren't sure if this was life threatening at this point. So I said no. No sedation, can you please give him fluids bc he's so dehydrated and I will pay for that and only thing you have done which is blood work.? So I can take him to a ER vet right now . He said No!!! quote" I was nice enough to stay past closing at 12 and my kids are up here alone with nobody else so I can't do fluids for Kai. I asked him why did he even book us at 11 knowing his state to them refuse to give fluids and why his kids were up there alone running around while my dog was being cared for we thought ? He said it takes hours to give IV fluids and he had no more time for this. I sent my husband to pick up Kai who was so sick at this point. Never did anyone mention they close at 12 before that time but he was staying for Kai. Until his wife called to tell me you won't be able to get through on phone bc we closed. We had no idea. She told my husband she would meet him back up to get Kai and settle the bill. My husband got there and he tried to charge us hundreds for just one blood work. Already made us pay 69$ to even book the appointment on Friday. So almost 500? For blood work that took 45 min and you couldn't even give him proper fluids ? And Kai left just as sick no answers. They even tacked on a $30 "after hours fee!" This is absolutely disgusting unprofessional and I hope nobody takes their pet there. Let me also say we took Kai to the ER directly, they gave him fluids immediately upon seeing him stating he was so dehydrated, a steroid, antibiotic, nausea meds and said none of that other was necessary that he tried to do. And people a warning we were told by the hosp this vet del mar that he would still refer me to a ER even if I had paid 1900 dollars for unnecessary X-rays and procedures. Happy to say thanks to the immediate care from picking up Kai to the emergency hospital kai is eating and drinking running around within 24 hours of the amazing help from st Augustine regional vet emergency clinic. We are so grateful for them saving Kai's life. Remember this and Del mars words when he said "I have my kids here I don't have time after 5 hours to administer fluids" and I said you have my kid there. And he said I've already stayed 2 hours later than closing you can come get Kai. He is about money and didn't care if Kai died in the car leaving his care. Please people don't go through what we did. October 5th 2023 I received and email and phone call from a attorney in newyork who was extremely rude and stated if I did not remove my honest review I would be sued. So I will see this gentleman in court before I remove honesty and my opinion of truth and have anyone else suffer as we did. Yelp is a platform to review as I have done. read more

Del Mar Veterinary Hospital - Kai completely lethargic - Veterinarians Near Me - St. Augustine, Florida

Before Del Mar, the vet I went to had to put a muzzle on my pup, Houdini because he was so frightened/aggressive. Within a short time, the staff and Dr. Nieves at Del Mar had Dini eating out of their hands--literally! They fed him scrumptious treats, and Dini did not even know when they gave him a shot! My pup was so happy and relaxed when he left this office - a first! Next up, my cats. read more

At first I thought this would be a great animal hospital to bring my cat too regularly when she got sick because it's just down the road from me but it wasn't. They way overcharged me for medication!!! and it turns out after speaking to another vet in the area, the medication that my cat was on, didn't even need to be on that type! I will not be bringing her here ever again. read more

These people are poor excuses for human beings. HARASSING me during a PANDEMIC!!! This was my new home. I've been displaced for 5 weeks due to water and mold intrusion. My home is being remediated and rebuilt! Dr Nieves at Del Mar Veterinary KNOWS THIS and is HARASSING ME for a remaining balance of $238 adding $25 late fees biweekly. It's DISGUSTING. Dr. Nieves KNOWS I have been displaced and is behaving like an animal himself. Phone calls, emails, multiple times in the last week. I've been forced to move 5 times in 5 weeks during a pandemic because my home is unlivable! I've lost my income! I have no family! During a time when our community needs love, support and empathy Dr. Nieves at Del Mar Veterinary is shaking me down for money stating, "Vets don't make as much money as real Doctors do!" I have a mortgage to pay", and my favorite, "The banks wont understand!" - GROW UP & GET SOME EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. I thought I found my VET. I was wrong. Too bad Dr. Nieves at Del Mar Veterinary is more concerned with a one-time transaction than a lifelong relationship. I'm struggling enough! I don't need you people breathing down my neck too!!! I ran into Dr Nieves from Del Mar Bet Clinic at UPS the SAME DAY that I picked up my cats from Del Mar Animal clinic and he asked ,"are the cats happy to be home"? DR NIEVES, WE AREN'T HOME YET!!! YOU KNOW THIS! Very, very sad. read more

We are visiting St Augustine when our 8 yr old Frenchie Hank starting vomiting and severe diarrhea. We searched for Vets near us and came upon Del Mar Veterinary Hospital. After calling office, they made time for us to come in that day. Upon entering Vet office, a staff member immediately greeted us and started loving on Hank. She was very personable and welcoming and Hank loved her. We immediately was shown into our suite where a vet tech starting taking Hank's history and giving treats making him feel calm. While waiting on Vet, we received our welcome bag with a squeaky toy. Hank has never had more fun at the vet until today. After years of Vet visits, I have never seen this before. Even though we are headed back home tomorrow, I highly recommend this hospital. The Vet heard my concerns and recommended a treatment and Hank is feeling much better. Hank gives the Vet and all office staff 2 paws up! read more

SCAMMERS I decided to come to this vet due to the reviews. Upon arrival i am told they have to meet me outside brcause my dog is sick and theyre going to "run a few tests". Well, im told to get back in my car and park in the back. Its rainy and humid. Im made to wait outside for 2 hours. Neither my dog nor i was allowed to go inside. The doc comes outside.. takes her heart rate and checks her breathing. Some how determines that she needs 2 weeks of amoxicillin for 176$ When i asked what i believe to be the receptionist why so high she told me its because the doctor ran some diagnostics checking her heart rate and her breathing? I couldve done that at home. That is not running diagnostics. They told me what i already knew. The first time visit fee which literally includes YOU filling out paper work costs you 58$, the remaining balance was the remainding cost for the amoxicillin "blend". Needless to say, i will NEVER go to these scammers again. They dont seem to enjoy animals or even care about them. read more

Absolutely LOVE Del Mar Vet and Dr. Nieves! I have 2 huskies, one of which is an extremely anxious pup. When we moved to Jax about 8 months ago I was determined to find a fear free certified practice for my anxious dog (we had extremely positive experiences with our previous fear free vet prior to moving and didn't want to give that up). Dr. Nieves was so patient with my dog and focused on building trust with him rather than forcing my dog to do a bunch of things he didn't want to. Dr. Nieves and his staff are always so kind, thorough, and quick! They are well worth the hour drive (one way!) to be able to go to Del Mar! read more

Do not bring your animals here. They do not care about your animals. They will over charge you, just for them to not even help your dog out. 1/10 don't recommend. Will not be back read more

Dr. Nieves and his staff are caring and wonderful. With our other dogs in the past, they would be afraid of going to the vet but our dog who goes to Del Mar does not get upset or worrisome. Their fear-free approach really works. Dr. Nieves is a smart diagnostician who knows what our dog needs. He's kind and gives our dog the time and attention that is required. I highly recommend Del Mar vet to others. read more

My sweet pups are everything to me and deserve the very best! This place delivers that and a heck of a lot more. Right before Hurricane Irma hit, my oldest pup Wrigley was attacked by a mean mean chow. His neck was pretty torn up and boy! I am so grateful the Doc came in on his day off to perform a 2 hour surgery. He totally made sure my pup was ok. Thanks to him, Wrigley is back to his sweet lovable self. The entire staff, even the vets wife Melissa really cares for you and your pets. Melissa stayed in touch during the aftermath of the surgery, making sure everything was ok. That's above and beyond in my book. They offer a pet wellness package which I signed both of my pups on. I will never pay for an office visit on this plan, free dental cleanings, discounts on meds, etc. awesome! I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. If you care about your furry family members, bring them here. Wrigley, Daisy and I thank you all. You Rock! read more

My aging dog definitely benefited from Del Mar. We followed Dr. Nieves from his previous work at Banfield Vet to continue with him when he opened his own clinic, the first "fear free" clinic in the area. The office was designed by his wife, and was beautiful. Dr.Nieves' care was very good, other than the fact that in order to decrease fear he continually fed our dog peanut butter treats. Of note, she had a weight problem. In spite of the beautiful office, and outstanding technical staff, I left Del Mar and Dr. Nieves because of the way the "business" was run by his wife. I found her very difficult to deal with. She might well have done better modeling her behavior after her husband's. He had such a gentle caring way with his patients. Del Mar is definitely a "fear free" place for all pets...but beware of disagreeing with his wife. read more

My family and I are in St. Augustine for vacation. Our dog Luke is a senior. He's going to be 15 now in November and has a heart murmur so we take his health very seriously. He's not used to being outside he doesn't like to be out in the heat he prefers being inside where there is AC but during this trip we took him to various places like the beach and fountain of youth. On our way back to the hotel we noticed a black spot on his back. We thought it was a tick. We actually have a Banfield wellness plan so we tried to take Luke to Banfield but they wouldn't take us as a walk in and said there was no appointments. The person at Banfield was very rude. All we wanted was someone to look at the spot and see if it was a tick. It would have taken a few minutes. The staff at Del Mar was so accommodating. We walked in and right away they disclosed the price for the vet visit so there was no surprises. They were so sweet and kind to us and Luke. The doctor was very nice and professional. We were in and out within an hour. You can tell the doctor and staff truly love animals. If we lived in this area we would definitely make this our home vet. Thank you to this veterinary hospital for taking the time to check out my dog without an appointment. Now we have peace of mind that our boy does not have ticks and we can continue to enjoy our vacation. read more
