We brought our 7-year-old unspayed female dog in for abnormal vaginal bleeding, foul-smelling discharge, and decreased appetite. I specifically expressed concern that it could be open pyometra. We understand emergency clinics must prioritize the most critical cases. However, after being told there would be approximately a two-hour wait, I became increasingly concerned as I watched her condition decline in the lobby. When she began shaking, I returned to the desk and asked that the nurse be informed, explaining that I had no way to check her temperature but knew this was a concerning change. I was told there was no one available to assist us and was handed a card for another emergency clinic. At no point during our visit were basic vitals taken. We immediately drove over 30 minutes to another urgent care facility while she was bleeding heavily. She was triaged right away, found to have a 103°F fever, diagnosed with open pyometra, and taken into emergency surgery. She is now recovering well. This condition is life-threatening and time-sensitive. Basic triage vitals -- particularly temperature -- could have identified the severity of her infection and changed the urgency of care. I am sharing this so other pet owners understand the importance of advocating strongly, and in the hope that more thorough triage protocols are implemented for similar cases in the future. read more

Our poor Halo had some severe GI issues yesterday that warranted an emergency trip. Staff were incredibly friendly and very understanding of Halo puking in the waiting room multiple times. They mopped it up and never made it feel like an inconvenience. We were seen quickly and the vet who took care of us was fantastic. Younger gentleman (I'll need to edit this with his name). I was very concerned with price as previously for an emergency obstruction surgery elsewhere we felt taken advantage of. That was NOT THE CASE here. They only did what was necessary and the cost was very reasonable for emergency care at midnight. Honestly it shocked me how low it was. Halo came home and slept really well. Woke up in good spirits and ate a little food. I am so thankful we came in last night and were able to ease her discomfort. Thank you!! read more

I brought my 9 year old dog Arlo in on 11/22 because he wasn't eating and had swollen lymph nodes. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and it was advanced, so I made the decision to euthanize him. Dr Cameron Jones was so kind and empathetic. She was also very good to Arlo, which was not my experience at other vets in the past. Arlo was a rescue with a traumatic background who hated the vet, and behaved like a wild animal while there. She recognized the sweet boy inside him, and understood that he was a beloved pet. The vet techs and receptionists are amazing as well. Losing Arlo was hard, but Dr Jones made his transition as peaceful and easy as possible. Thank you! read more

Go literally anywhere else...Dr Lopez told us our dog had weeks or less to live and that she had a bleeding tumor on her heart, which was completely debunked the next day at our regular vet. She said she didn't actually see a tumor in the chest X-ray and ultrasound, but "if I were in Vegas I'd put my money on it being a tumor bleed and the prognosis is not good." My husband and I were complete wrecks and bawling our eyes out. She said she could tap the fluid to confirm if it was blood, but that she'd have to go under anesthesia, it would cost thousands of dollars, and that out of the last two dogs she tapped, one died on the table. No other tests were done or suggested. We spent $1000 at this visit. We took her home and grieved all night, and barely slept worrying she wouldn't make it through the night. The next day at her regular vet they said her behavior was not consistent with what they normally see with tumor bleeds, and after two different ultrasounds and another chest X-ray we were told there was no tumor at all. They also said there was not enough fluid around the heart to tap safely bc the risk of puncturing the heart and killing her was too high. She was diagnosed with a ventricular arrhythmia and put on medication which we confirmed has helped after a follow up ultrasound and EKG. They also suspect a possible tick borne illness due to us finding a tick attached to her the morning after our visit here. We are awaiting test results and meanwhile she was also put on an antibiotic due to swollen lymph nodes which show signs of a bacterial infection or tick borne disease. All I'm saying is if you can wait for your regular vet the next day, WAIT! And don't take a terminal diagnosis as fact until you get a second opinion. Especially not from Dr. Lopez. I feel so angry with her and the staff here for letting us leave in tears and making us believe our sweet baby girl was going to die. I felt completely uncared for and an extreme lack of empathy. We've been here once before for suspected salt water poisoning and the technician who came to look at her in the lobby made me feel like she thought I was making up her symptoms and like she was annoyed with us. I had a horrible feeling inside about this place that time and opted to just take her home and get as many fluids in her as I could. If you HAVE to take your animal here, considering it's unfortunately the only ER VET that's open overnight in St. Aug, just go in with an open mind and don't take a terminal diagnosis as fact until you get a second opinion. How dare Dr. Lopez tell us she'd bet her money that dog had a tumor when she herself said she didn't see one on the images. She looked us in the face and said this as we cried. I'm SO angry for the unnecessary emotions we had to go through because of her unprofessional behavior and poor diagnostic abilities. Avoid going here. Drive an hour for somewhere else if you have to. I'll never take my beloved girl back here EVER. read more

I just wanted to first take the time to say thank you to any of those in this position and doing what you do, vet techs, vets, even reception. It's a very difficult job and the encounter I received was nothing but great. Took my little guy Apollo in for something wrong with his eye. I was greeted by a nice empathetic lady asking why he's there. After waiting around 20 minutes (with two other others ahead) we were called back. Almost minutes later we were taken care of and they took him back for vitals. The part that took the longest was waiting during this time. There happened to have been an emergency during this time and that is why the wait was longer than expected. The veterinarian came in and was apologetic, empathetic, and explained what was going on with my dog. She then asked if we had anymore questions. The vet tech (I'm assuming vet tech) came in minutes later with the bill, explained it, and gave us options of treatment rather than just forcing unnecessary tests. Overall the experience was very pleasant for the circumstance. Everyone there was nice, cared for the owners animals, and did their best with limited staffing and a high number of animal intakes. Pricing was expensive but it's just like our hospitals so nothing surprising. Also like hospitals, sometimes cases come in that need higher tend of care, which could mean longer wait times. Please know this has nothing to do with your animal not being important, rather, they might be saving another's life. Apollo is doing great! read more

Good day, everyone. My name is Alex and hope you are having a great day. I would like to start off with saying how extremely uncomfortable and terrible I feel about typing this post. But as a fellow beloved pet owner, I sense an obligation that everyone should be warned of the potential experience they might have with this facility. Now I recently got a new puppy by the name of Mylo back in September. Black goldendoodle. Super cute. It was an early Christmas gift from my mother as we recently lost our other dog, Lexi. Mylo was all fun and happy until one particular Thursday morning when refused to eat. Immediately I thought that was strange, however dismissed it as we recently altered his food, upon leaving it there in case he would take a bite later on in the day before heading to work. Upon returning home late, my family and I noticed he hadn't eaten at all. That same night he began to vomit bile combined with blood and we just knew instantly something was terribly wrong. We rush Mylo to this hospital upon recommendation of his initial veterinarian. The staff were wonderful, except for one, the vet themself. We found it a little odd that we weren't able to witness the examinations as that is what we're use too. Nor were any fecal or blood tests performed to our knowledge. But once again, dismiss it as they were the specialists, not us. The vet was a bit rude, informing us that he didn't see nothing wrong with Mylo as he appeared healthy and that he possibly ate a sock or something he wasn't suppose too recommending x-rays. We decided against them as we assumed if it was indeed something Mylo ate it would just eventually vacate his system. Unfortunately, when we got home, the vomiting continued, becoming brown with even more blood. Not comfortable with returning, we sought help with another clinic to get a second opinion. Mylo had parvo and could have died that weekend, possibly into the next week if he wasn't treated properly. We couldn't comprehend how as he had already received two of his parvo shots and is kept away from other dogs, however, the other vet he could of still gotten anywhere despite his vaccination. The other vet couldn't comprehend why at the very least a fecal test was done, but they weren't there and couldn't speak on the behalf of the first vet. That weekend was sleepless and food less as me and my family did everything and anything to preserve Mylo's life. Cleaning like no tomorrow. By the grace of god, he survived and is now 6 months all cheerful and go lucky. Furious. Hurt. As I still remain. I requested to speak with a manager trice and was able to get a hold of one stating they couldn't get back to me a certain date. Now mind you, I was never angry or disrespectful to anyone, I just simply wanted my money back as they could have nearly costed me my dog's life if I didn't listen to my gut instinct. And upon feeling like I was being given the runaround, I decided to dispute the bill with my credit card company. Unfortunately, just recently I learnt it to be unsuccessful. So, I beg of you, before spending a dime here, please, please be cautious. I'm sure they are a great place, they just weren't to us and it will surely be one I'd never visit again... read more

We are so grateful to the amazing staff for saving our sweet dog Kai's life this weekend . After taking him to another vet and getting no help or answers we scooped Kai up and went straight here. He had not ate in 5 days or kept water down for 4 days. He was extremely dehydrated, lethargic and he was deteriorating by the hour. This staff and amazing veterinarian immediately gave fluids, steroids, antibiotics, nausea meds, and we left with high hopes. He kept all fluids down and began eating slowly. By yesterday Kai was running down the stairs happy wagging his tail wanting to eat everything! He's back to playing with his toys. Thank you all for saving Kai and the professionalism, empathy and quick action for our fur baby. I did leave a honest review of the vet that treated our dog like a money sign and not concerned of his health at all. That vet was Del Mar veterinary hospital. 2 minutes ago-Edit We recently took our kitten in here and saw Dr. Tyler. He was super attentive, explained everything very well. The initial cost was high, and it's going to be high because its an ER, but in the end they didn't use as much and we actually got money back. Imo, they're very honest people. My worst nightmare (as most pet parents) is having to visit the emergency vet late at night. My husky got into rat poison at someone's else's house and thankfully I caught her eating it. We rushed to the vet and they were able to give her medication to throw it up and activated charcoal to detoxify if anything got in her system. It is an emergency vet so you can expect it to be expensive. Unfortunately that's just the price of emergency care. The vet techs were fantastic! They were great at calming my anxiety around the situation and were the sweetest to my husky. If it weren't for the emergency pricing, I would debate taking my dog here for all vet visits. Unsatisfactory visit with our elderly cat. Our main concern was extreme constipation. The vet examined her and reported "no stool felt" but, at the same time prescribed lactulose (a stool softener). Subsequently our regular vet found massive constipation requiring two enemas. They promised to email a report to our regular vet and to our personal email and never did so. It seems to be impossible to speak directly with the director. Staff was unhelpful in providing specificinformation. Definitely not recommended. read more

We went to SARVEC for an emergency visit while we were on vacation. The Vet was great. She was thorough and I never felt like it was "just work" for her. We took our 17 yr old 3 1/2 lb chihuahua after having a previous emergency 2 weeks before. She disagreed with the previous ER's diagnosis, and highly recommended that we see our regular vet to review the medication. Her recommendation most likely saved my dog's life. The reason I gave them 4 stars is b/c it is extremely difficult to get through to the office. With COVID-19 and curbside service, answering the phone should be a priority. Especially if you are a 24 hr animal hospital the takes emergency visits. The voicemail recording simply states to keep calling back. Kinda silly read more

Our Sweet Baby Han became ill last Sunday 11/4/18, thankful for the staff at St Augustine Regional Veterinary Emergency Center doesn't even begin to express our feelings about our visit. It was bad and we knew it when we headed out the door. Our 8 year old Sphynx was as cold as ice and unable to move three of his limbs. The staff was quick and thoughtful in helping us make our decision to send him off to heaven. A couple of days later when I received the condolence card that was signed by the staff I was deeply touched and then I saw his paw prints on the card. My dog was attacked by a large dog who got away from his owner, and my 3 dogs were being walked by my husband. The other dog attacked my sweet boy and the other two tried to run and hide. Our dogs were leashed. My husband had to pull this pit mix off our dog and it took some time. My husband is in great shape and still couldn't get this dog off my dog. Won't go into the rest of that story, but I took him to St. Augustine Emergency because it was a Sunday morning, and our local vet was closed. Community Animal Hospital, and our vet there is exceptional. I had to wrap him in a blanket and it took 40 minutes to get there. He was hurt badly and whimpering and had bite wounds, and was breathing erratically and panting hard. I was very scared and upset needless to say. He is just the sweetest dog. I called first to find out where they were located. Glad I did because they had moved. When I got there she told me to take a clipboard and sit down and sign in, 3 pages. So I did while my dog was crying and shaking and panting. I had no idea if anything was broken, or internal bleeding. I put that he had been attacked on the clipboard and turned it in. I was not called in. We sat for 45 minutes. I went to front desk and said he needed to be seen soon because something was wrong with his breathing and he had been brutally attacked. He was taken back not too long after we sat back down. I wanted to go back but they just took him. Not saying anything to me. I asked if I could come back and was told they would come back and talk to me. So I sat there for another couple hours waiting. Then I was called back in a room that is not used but for a plastic chair and a steel table and 4 grey walls. She told me to wait there and closed the door. This is not a clean place and I sat there staring at 4 walls for another hour. Finally, the vet came in and spoke to me for maybe 3 minutes. She told me the bites were surface and they would take exrays and someone would come give me the total cost. So I sat there again. Waiting. I thought he would be exrayed during this time but no. Finally someone came in and asked me to sign a form saying how many hundreds of dollars I would owe for an exray, clipping hair, medication to take the exray to calm him down, an antibiotic and a pill for inflammation. I know it is pricey for emergency vet care but c'mon. A separate charge to clip hair around the wounds? Which were worse than she said. Several on back bad, and a large part of his side and stomach were swollen with terrible bruising ad bites all over. It was awful. So after I signed I thought ok, they will exray now. I sat there for at least an hour or more with the door closed in this old room. So I finally opened the door and walked the hall up and down. The place is really a mess. No reason for that with the money they bring ib. The meds they gave him are meds I have gotten from my own vet many times and they charged 5 times more for basic cardo something and antibiotic. Ridiculous. They are taking advantage of people who love their dogs. There was no surgery. So after waiting another hour I asked where my dog was. I was told Name? was going to be doing an exray of my dog soon. What? We had been there for hours and I hadn't seen him, he was in a crate I suppose and I saw the vet for 3 minutes. The rest of any communication came from different girls/women. Finally I went to the front to pay and asked for a copy of the exray. I got a sigh so I felt bad but I had told the girl when I was closed in the room in the hallway that I wanted that. She never told her I guess. So I waited for that cause she put it on a CD. I didn't care how I got it but I needed it to show the owner of the dog who attacked my dog. Even though she said she couldn't afford to pay the vet bill. So I paid and got the exray and sat back out in the main waiting room For about a half hour till I asked where was my dog. Finally someone else brought him out. Seriously, I paid more than I pay for my own healthcare and I feel my dog deserved better care and more concern for his pain. Today he was still whimpering and wouldn't eat or walk, just stared into space. I called my local vet and she immediately said she would order a different pain med that was more for nerves, and pain. I went and picked it up and once I gave it to him, he ate a little and seemed to come alive. Why didn't the emergency vet give me that to take home. And nothing to put on his bites , but I guess the antibiotic will eventually clear up the sores and bites. I called today to see if they had my CC because since then I have not been able to find. They did call back later at 6 p.m. when they open and she was very nice, saying she looked but they did not have. But, no one, not one person, called me to check on my dog who was just there day before. My own vet's office always calls. They were not that busy. Daytona next time. read more

unfortunately this is the closest ER and I had to have immediate care for my cat. due to countless mistakes by the staff my cat has gone through a week and 1/2 of non stop overnights at the er and the vet. upon transfer from my vet Saturday to the ER for weekend care the staff informed the other owner of my cat that I was banned from the facility. I am no longer allowed to bring my cat or any of my other pets in for care. I have paid thousands of dollars to them. I do not have any outstanding debts with them. they have given me no reason. I can only be left to think it is to protect themselves from a lawsuit. they are aware of their mistakes. I would not recommend using them if you have the choice to go elsewhere. communication between vets and staff is extremely poor and accidents and wrong decisions happen when there is no communication. at this point they have probably cost my cat his life due to their negligence. read more

Melissa greeted us right away, took us to a room and made us feel at ease while she gathered necessary info, and the Dr visited the room not long after. PLEASE READ ALL!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!! BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA!!!! *it removed pic of eye it was too graphic* At the start of covid I took my dog in for an upset stomach. This should have been a quick blood draw and check up. Instead it took over 3 hours which should have been my first clue of trouble. You have to wait outside and I stayed the whole time and was informed once of how her visit was going, saying they were doing more tests. I finally got her back and she immediately was crying and being super loud completely out of the ordinary which I just thought she was excited to be leaving. It was dark outside so I didn't get to see her face fully. The second that I got back home I noticed blood on me, and found that her nose was dripping blood. Then I found that her eye was bulging out and completely red and she would flinching when I came near her face acting as if I was going to hit her (I've had her for 5 years she's my best friend I have never harmed her in any way so this was terrifying). I call the vet and they told me that her eye and nose was probably due to stress. I could tell that wasn't true because she was terrified and flinching. Then their next excuse was "oh it's probably because we had to muzzle her". Another lie because 1. She's the kindest dog ever and a retired service dog she would have no need for a muzzle and 2. A muzzle is no excuse for the extent of her injuries. After about 3 hours of more lies they said "oh she fell out of the raised kennel when we were giving a shot". Thats not protocol for giving a shot, and she would have had to have landed face first on the ground if that was the case so yet another lie. They offered payment for her $800 bill and finally admitted to malpractice and negligence. I talked to the board requesting the security footage (after originally being told the camera was blocked, yet another lie) and they said they would talk to lawyer about it. After not hearing back for a while, I messaged them again and they said they can't provide the footage because it automatically deletes after 30 days. Pretty convenient huh? I took her to another vet at 3am and was told she has a conjunctival hemorrhage and epistaxis due to blunt force trauma to the head. If you care about your animal at all you should not take them here unless you want them to be abused and traumatized for the rest of their life. This place should be shut down and these people involved should be fired and have their license revoked. My baby came in with an upset stomach and came back traumatized and hurt while I sat in the parking unaware. I can not say enough good things about this place. My dog is obviously my favorite living thing on earth (including my wife ) so putting her in the hands of strangers when she's sick is scary. Due to Covid we had to sit in the car while they cared for our girl which was also unsettling and scary .. but I appreciate how thorough and safe they were about the whole weird transaction. I felt very comfortable leaving her in their hands. Everyone was so kind and warm! I had to leave her overnight and when I called to check up on her they didn't make me feel like a crazy helicopter dog mom and were super informative. Although my night was long .. when I picked her up in the morning she seemed like she has a great time and the doctor that did her discharge was awesome! My husband drove his truck forward and the dog got wedged under the tire on a Saturday afternoon. We called several vet clinics but everyone was closed and finally a clinic recommend for us to go here. I called their office and was told to come as soon as possible. The receptionist called me on the way there inquiring if it was closer for us to go to Shands in Gainesville. We live 1 hr in either direction. So we went to St. Augustine. They took Scooter, the beagle, back right away. The staff and Dr. Pam Kwiakowski were very professional, polite and compassionate . Lucky for us, there was no fractures and no internal bleeding. Just road rash and severe bruising. I would highly recommend this clinic to anyone in need of emergency or general vet care in St. Augustine. The staff was compassionate and upfront with the cost of everything prior to doing any testing or providing treatment for our dog. The staff was thorough, friendly, very quick to get us in. Our friends had come into town and had an emergency with their little puppy who was only 7 months old and when we called we were able to bring her in and get her checked and taken care of very quickly. We woke up on a Sunday morning with our dog in obvious distress. We normally use Shelton Veterinary clinic but they are not open on Sundays. The emergency clinic suggested on their site was St. Augustine Regional. Seeing the 1 star rating, I was nervous about taking him to this clinic but there was no choice. I just don't understand that one-star rating. From beginning to end, all of the people at this clinic (at 6 a.m.) were very kind and caring. I could not have asked for a more thorough exam and, while the outcome was not what we had hoped, they did everything they could to treat us and care for our dog in a loving, caring manner. I have looked on the bill and do not see the doctor's name to personally thank him publicly for everything but hope that this review undoes the negative one that was posted earlier. read more

Horrible place. Don't ever bring your animal here if you want it to live! Sat for hours upon hours while my dog bled out, shook from shock, and vomited, while they said she wasn't even that bad. Three hours later they give her something for pain, and another hour after that, finally do something to stop the bleeding. Well now my baby has died from internal bleeding, not even 24 hours later. Incompetent staff in all aspects!! Stay far far away from this place. read more
