I came here with my friend for our first pilates class last week around 12pm and it was pretty fun! The instructor that we had was Hannah and she was so nice! She really explained each workout thoroughly and helped me with my form/balance on some of the exercises. I really liked that everyone was very inviting and the space is kept clean and organized. This class was for all levels and you can change the weights on the reformer if you would like to have more of a challenge during your workout. Since it was my first time, I kept the recommended weight and I feel like some workouts were more difficult to do than others. I think this class was a good workout to do to stay active! I get the hype of pilates now and might try it again sometime! The only con of this place is unfortunately the parking but that's with most places in Houston. The parking lot is shared with multiple businesses that reserve their spots only for their shop. There is parking that is not reserved for anything but the spots are very tight. There is also parking on the side of Defy but it is a little tricky in finding out how to get to the spot. I was able to find a spot in the parking lot but my friend had to park on the side. When I checked in, the ladies at the front were able to give me directions for my friend so that she can find how to get to the parking so just ask beforehand! Booked my class on MINDBODY I have been in the search for another Pilates studio since I was turned away from another studio for being "pregnant." Basically, the *OTHER PILATES PLACE* wouldn't let me take the higher level classes I was used to and had been taking despite doctors approval because it was their "policy"... *they* said pregnant participants would only be limited to the entry level classes. No thank you, I need workout. But Defy!!! I texted them a day earlier just to make sure before booking the class and they told me to COME ON! I got a doctors note just in case, but they didn't make any fuss about it. They told me as long as I was comfortable I would be fine. They made adjustments for me throughout the class and the instructor Vanessa Barrera made sure to introduce herself, give me tips, and kept checking my form to make sure I was ok. WIN - WIN. While the music was loud, I appreciated how I could still here her cues and instruction clearly through the microphone. The class was very challenging, leaving me sore the next day. Bonus points for having a parking lot. I was able to find parking easily in their lot, but I did go on New Years Day, so that may have influenced things. read more

I've been a member here for about 8 months. I take classes 2-3x/week, have tried all of the instructors. As background, I am at a fairly beginner level with knee issues and often need modifications. Each of the instructors have always helped to provide alternatives for any moves I need help with. If you are more advanced, they help make adjustments in that direction, too. The equipment and studio are clean, well kept, calming and is in a convenient location with lots of class times. Each of the instructors have their own personalities (I mean, duh they are human) and its nice to have them each bring their own approach. Classes are always different. How they come up with new routines is beyond me. Classes are a challenge but not impossible. I'm amazed at finding new muscles I never knew existed, to be sore (but not painful/sore in a dangerous way). They have introductory offers and also offer through class pass. The studio is run similar to any other boutique fitness studio -- sign up and class starts on time. read more

Booked with Class Pass and genuinely enjoyed the workout. Ashley was a great instructor, very descriptive with movements/demos, and corrects form if needed. I liked how it wasn't crazy like solid core but still felt challenging enough. Parking is a bear but that comes with the territory in this part of Houston. Taylor is awesome! Her workouts are challenging, music selection is great, and her enthusiasm is contagious. Other instructors vary quite a lot in their intensity. All of the instructors are very friendly and I love the decor and lighting of this studio. Also, because the Bellaire location is relatively new, the machines are really new and clean! Suggestions 1. I feel like they should classify sessions into different levels, because I always want a challenging workout and I never really know what to expect when I'm trying a new instructor. 2. Some instructors only say with words and don't ever show what each move is supposed to look like. I wish they were more attentive and give more feedback so that I can fix what I'm doing wrong in my posture or movement. Other studios are definitely more helpful with this. read more

Defy is pure magic. Both locations - Bellaire and Heights. They empower and inspire their clients on a daily basis. The facilities are clean, the equipment is solid, the music is fantastic, and the instructors... well I can't imagine a better crew. The workouts? Hard and always unique. Defy has changed my life. Last summer, I had been overworking myself in a new job and not taking care of myself. At one point, I decided "this is enough" and decided to make health and self-improvement a priority. I had little prior exposure to Pilates (just one mat class), but I knew it gave a great full-body workout. I also loved that most Pilates studios require you to book in advance and have a cancellation penalty, so I knew that would force me into accountability with my workouts. I tried out three different studios here in Houston (Body Rock, Citizen, and Defy) as I tried to find the right one for me. Each had a slightly different approach, vibe, and clientele. At first impression, Defy was actually my least favorite because it was just so intense. Christa (the owner) taught several of the classes I attended, and she has the energy of a drill sergeant. Completely kicked my ass. But then I thought to myself, why am I here? The answer: to have my ass kicked. I ended up choosing Defy because of their challenging, no-nonsense approach mixed with a fun instructing style. This is where you go if you want to see results. The instructors are both encouraging and inspiring. They keep it fun without coddling you. They care. And if you're a beginner (like I was), you'll be hurting, but you can get through it! So, I kept going. At first, I did 10 classes a month, and I couldn't imagine doing 50% more with their 15 classes/month package. I felt like I was constantly complaining about sore muscles. Then, gradually, the 10 classes/month wasn't enough for me. So I upped it to 15. Then, they did a "challenge" for their clients, and I upped my game to 20 classes/month. Last month? I did 25 classes, and I'm the strongest I've been my entire life. My body composition has changed. It feels wrong if I take more than a day off. I'm officially a Defy addict, and this place is my second home. I love defy. Both locations are great. Humpday Jumpday is what's up. Defy is a nice balance between a good hard yet also relaxing workout. I got into Pilates initially at Defy but have tried out many other studios using ClassPass. There is only one studio I have found to be better due to the extreme intensity level of the workout at the other place. That is not to say that you won't get an awesome workout to be proud of at Defy. They create abs for days here. Oh and the music and quality of sound are both awesome at this place. I'll keep this simple, because the studio speaks for itself and both locations (Heights & Bellaire) are amazing. This studio is a judgement free zone which is so important. Whether you're new to fitness, super experienced, Olympian, new mom, pregnant, injured, just having a weak day, or if you've never felt better- DEFY is for you. Owner Christa is genuinely the most amazing instructor. She is so friendly and is constantly making sure everyone understands the moves and gets the most out of their workouts. All of the instructors are welcoming and this goes a long way! I love the wide variety of classes with so many opportunities to take them during the day. I especially love jumpboard and Sex-lates! The studio is really well run and the app is never glitchy (this might be the only studio app on my phone that actually works properly). My advice to newbies is to arrive early to class. You'll meet some pretty awesome people that will become familiar faces and the instructors make sure to take care of you. read more

One year ago, I took my first reformer class at defy. I still love coming here, still breaking a sweat during class and my abs still wind up sore the next day. All the instructors here are amazing. Routines, playlists and energy are always on point. Whether you're new to this studio, new to reformer or new to pilates, they're very welcoming as they provide you with modifications to do and they're attentive to your form to make sure you're doing it correctly. The studio is simple and clean. It isn't super bright in there which I prefer. They do have a small parking lot, but I've never had an issue to where I wasn't able to find a spot. read more

The teachers are really nice. Studio is cleaned. The last class I went to the restrooms weren't working. After class I got a note on my car and yelled at for parking in a wrong spot that wasn't labeled wrong. The parking signs have changed now to accommodate the other tenant that was yelling at me. This is the most friendly welcoming studio in the city! And the very best class is the Wednesday Humpday Jumpday class - Danna is awesome! She totally motivates everyone and is constantly circling around checking form and giving pointers. She always has a different routine each week that is challenging but also has modifications for those of us who haven't mastered all the moves. Her instructions are clear and easy to follow. The music is great. I had never taken a jump class until I wandered into Danna's class - now I positively do not miss this class! I recommend it to everyone. read more

I've gone to two classes so far and I fell in love with it! Instructor is amazing and I've gotten a good work out each time. First two classes were complimentary which is a good way to see if this is something you like to do or not. The instructor encourages you to push yourself harder but no side eye from the instructor or any of the other people in your class if you choose to not go the extra mile. From a person who's legs were just like "no ma'am that's enough" and shook uncontrollably the last 15 minutes of class.. that was God sent. I look forward to my future classes! read more

I can't say enough great things about Defy Pilates! It's been a game changer in my workout routine; a perfect balancing adder to my usual yoga/running go-tos. If you're new to reformer pilates, this will undoubtedly be the best place to start.
