I recently had my wedding at the Gilchrist Club and was highly unsatisfied with the services that…read morewere provided to me. I would NOT recommend this venue to anyone planning a wedding! I thought at first that their prices were very expensive, but after talking this over with a coordinator she explained to me that although it seems expensive up front, the Gilchrist Club would in fact not nickel and dime me throughout the rest of the wedding process. This coordinator then left halfway through my wedding planning experience. Her leaving should have been a warning sign to me. After she left, it seemed that every few weeks something new would come up or be tacked onto my bill, which was incredibly expensive to begin with! I was told over and over how the chef was amazing and her food was incredible. My menu was very simple (we wanted more "fun foods" such as chicken fingers, fries, mac and cheese, and pizza). I was charged $62 a person to eat. I was shocked by this at first, but figured it would be the best food I had ever had. We were never given an opportunity to try these foods or the cake that was made for us prior to the wedding. I was served frozen chicken fingers, the mac and cheese was dry and cold, the pizza was as hard as a rock (I had 1 bite), and I took one fry from a guest which happened to taste good; however, it was not at all worth what I was charged. I was horribly disappointed with this. My box of food that I was eating from was thrown away (which contained an engraved fork that I had purchased - I didn't realize this until after the wedding when asking for the fork). I was under the impression I would be given a to-go plate at the end of the reception; however, this plate was never given to us. I had about 5 bites of food, and my groom did not eat at all. I also asked for a vegan plate for one wedding guest- we had talked about maybe a pasta dish with veggies, something of that sort. This was completely forgotten about and our vegan guest was served a thrown together salad after waiting 45 minutes for her food- $62 for a salad with no protein?!?! That is absolutely absurd. My cake was not anything like I had spoken to the chef about, I told her I wanted a naked cake that was a light cake, vanilla flavored with white frosting and blackberry preserves on it. I was given a dense, almost cheesecake like cake, with a thick cream cheese frosting. Not anything that my husband nor I would eat. I won't go into detail about the groom's cake, but that was another disaster in itself. These cakes we couldn't really enjoy cost us $671... Again no tasting was provided. At one point an 18% gratuity was charged on the FACILITY RENTAL fee, which was added to our bill later (not originally on our contract). When asked about this we were told this was required. My husband spoke with the manager and the manager said they would return half of this fee if things went well after the wedding. On top of that, there was a 22% gratuity on all food items, due before the wedding (This I understand. I was a server for 8 years -the food gratuity was about $2,200). Guests were required to buy their own drink tickets if they wanted to drink alcohol ($5/each) this included the drink, tax and a tip. When I was leaving the night of the wedding, I saw that the staff had a tip jar sitting out for guests to put cash in next to the drink ticket station... At this point I was infuriated because in my eyes the staff was "double dipping." That seemed pretty petty after the large amount of money we had already spent in gratuities. After the wedding, I wrote their general manager, Bob Edwards, asking for the refunded gratuity and explained the above issues, as well as other issues that arose during the wedding like being spoken down to by staff (including Bob himself). In my email to him, I mentioned I wanted to clear up these issues above before posting any reviews. I suppose this did not matter to him. I was told I would not be getting the refunded gratuity, and after another email of mine explaining that there was no just cause for him to keep this, he told me that he did not see the point in us bickering back and forth. EVENTUALLY, 2 months later after fighting tooth and nail and almost filing a small claims court case, I received a check for the gratuity and missing fork. I'm writing this to give them credit for that- and honestly only that. Yes, their facility is beautiful; however, it is definitely not worth the money and headaches we endured. This facility puts on a facade that they are well trained at putting on weddings- after having mine there I can say the exact opposite. Honestly look elsewhere- please take my warning and learn from my mistakes.

My favorite thing about this park is that I can run laps on the track (which is shaded in the…read moresummer, woohoo!) while my little guy plays on the playground! It sounds silly, but I don't like to just sit and stare at my kids playing, I prefer to *do* something. Since none of the equipment is very tall, I don't feel the need to hover either, which is nice. There is a basketball court in the middle, a smaller tot area under the trees where all the equipment is only waist high, water fountains, restrooms (that are unfortunately only open sporadically), and a covered pavilion with a few picnic tables. This is an accessible playground with a ramp right up from the parking lot. There is always plenty of parking too. Oh and it's sand, not wood chips, which my kids love so they can bring sand toys. One of my biggest factors in rating playgrounds is whether there are friends to play with and this one is hit or miss unfortunately, but I like this one nevertheless because it has something for all ages packed into a small area and it's not directly on a main/busy road. Note: The park is NOT LIGHTED at night, so don't plan on running laps or playing b-ball at night.

I'll admit, it's been several years since I last went to M2 Battlesports. I've since moved out of…read moreGainesville and out of Florida altogether, but M2 was so memorable that even now, I consider it the gold standard for laser tag. I've been twice--both times, my group did the night games, one outside in a "king of the hill" style, and another in a rescue mission style. Both were fantastic. Do note that these games are rough around the edges. It's no manicured, pinkies-up, gun soiree. Bring bug spray, water, and wear black. Come ready to scrape knees, score bruises, and serve dinner to the 'skeeters (protip: lay that bugspray on thick). The highlights: - the terrains are super fun, interesting, thoughtfully designed, and the time flies. Be careful if you're playing at night because there is shrubbery and hard objects that you can run into (or hide in/behind). - the equipment was great. There were several different types of weapons you could choose, but be aware that most of them are quite heavy. The lightest one was still an arm work-out after running, ducking, and hauling around for an hour. They're also thoughtfully designed, each with their own strengths and drawbacks. My friend who was able to carry the heavy sniper gun, really enjoyed hers because she could shoot without alerting others to her location. - the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing to complain about. M2 is an experience you can't get in big cities with fancy tech and cutting edge facilities. It's a rural, lightly regulated, and no seat-belts kind of good time that you won't want to miss.
