HUGE update! Michael and his wife, Hala, did it again! My husband upgraded my ring and it is absolutely flawless. The diamond of my dreams. I was so nervous to wear it for the first week! The amount of compliments I have gotten is beyond flattering. I'm so lucky to have found a small business that not only saves me money, but also gives me the best quality jewelry. Michael has been in the business for over 30 years. He is the most honest jeweler we have ever come across. He even taught us what to look for and what not to look for in diamonds. Prices are unmatched, quality is impeccable. I'm obsessed! read more

I had such an amazing experience working with Michel and Hala on a custom yellow diamond ring. From the very beginning, they listened closely to what I envisioned and made the process feel effortless. The craftsmanship is absolutely beautiful the diamond's color, the setting, and every detail came out even better than I imagined. You can tell they truly take pride in their work and care about creating something special for each client. Communication was excellent the whole way through. When I finally saw the finished piece, I was speechless. It's elegant, timeless, and perfectly reflects my style. I couldn't be happier If you're looking for someone who combines artistry, skill, and genuine care, I can't recommend Define Diamond enough. read more

Purchased my wife's wedding ring here. It's been 13 years. Oops, I guess I forgot to leave a review way back then, but just came across this and here you go. It's rare to find someone honest, nice and genuine in the jewelry business, but that's exactly what we found in Michael the owner. Great guy. Not out to gouge anyone. Fair pricing. read more

Great service, great price, great with communication and turnaround. Got married but didn't have something new or something blue, so I had a ring made with the letter of my new last name "W" and added a tiny sapphire for something blue. He sent me pictures of the design during the process to make sure it was exactly what I wanted and it turned out fantastic. Will definitely come back here again. Also got my husband's wedding band here. Note: in the photo, the W ring and gold band was from Define Diamond. read more

I have been working with Michael for years now. Sometimes I purchase items already made from the glass case, other times he will make me the most beautiful custom pieces. Not only are they stunning, but he is so helpful, honest, and fair in his prices. He and his wife are the nicest individuals and working with them is so easy. My husband and I cannot say ENOUGH good things and thank yous to Michael and his team. He custom made my husbands wedding band after we saw several designs we liked elements of and wanted to combine and for a very reasonable price compared to what some of the other dealers were asking. He ended up going with a white gold ring and an inset line of black diamonds. In the very center of the black diamonds, we put one single white diamond from my ring (they had to remove a few for the wedding band to be attached) which made his ring extra special to us. For my ring, the engagement ring had a curved band that the computer couldn't handle, so everything was done by hand the old fashioned way. It turned out beautifully. I wanted the wedding band to mirror the existing band, which meant lots of curves and 5 different sized diamonds on each side. It turned out beautifully! And I wanted rose gold to bring out the color of the champagne diamond in the center of mine, so he dipped mine and finished the inner band of my husbands in rose gold to match. It's a year later and he's been wonderful with helping us keep them clean and maintained and always happy to see us. Can't recommend him enough! read more

Michael is amazing! He gave me such an awesome deal on a 2c diamond ring that someone else would have charged me double. You can honestly tell he is an honest man and cares for his clients. I sized my wedding ring elsewhere and he even said wow that much you you should have came to me I would have charged you half of that. I will for sure come to him only for any of my future purchases. He was also able to size the ring same day with a small wait. Amazing experience!!!! read more

Make friends with your jeweler. It pays off a lot when you go back to get it polished, or to pick up other jewelry. They'll remember you and most likely give you a great price. I'm guessing that's why the fiance went there in the first place. They don't try to haggle or pressure you. Mike + his wife are super down to earth and sweet people. We visited them several times for ring adjustments and each time they've been great at taking care of it promptly - e.g. polishing is free, resizing is also free (they put these nodules on the ring itself), settings... etc. Usually whatever they have to do takes less than an hour. Plus, they sell recycled diamonds, so their prices are cheaper. But don't let that fool you because, they have genuine certs to go with their diamonds. I'm a huge supporter of recycled jewelry because of the horrific stories that go along with feeding into the whole diamond craze (I would've been totally happy with a simulated rock actually). We went back to look at their wedding band selection - and since they didn't carry the one the fiance liked - they recommended us to someone else and helped us to get a really great discount (I did check. :)). The only thing is, their display selection is limited so you wouldn't know that they have an extra stash had you not asked. I still gets lots of compliments on my engagement ring. :) read more

Its so important to buy valuable gems from a trustworthy person. After my now husband and I got engaged back in 2009, we started to ring shop. Michael was recommended to us from his brother-in-law, so we went down to the jewelry district to see what he had. Michael and his wife were very warm and friendly, and were more than helpful. He took a ton of time with us answering all of our questions, and even showed us how to look at diamonds under a loop and all about the color and clarity grades. He even encouraged us to look around elsewhere and see what other vendors had. They were very low pressure, at no point did we feel forced to purchase from him. My hubby actually saw an engagement ring he liked at robbins bros, and we went back to Michael with pictures of the ring. He was able to replicate it for us, including several tweeks to it based on what we wanted. He also found me an amazing round brilliant diamond for the ring that I HAD to have once I saw it. We loved the finished ring so much we went back and he helped us design a matching wedding band for it. I have had my ring for almost 5 years now, and I still get compliments on my ring all the time. Oh, and not only is his jewelry beautiful and customizable, but its also very reasonably priced. Just last week, I discovered that one of the side stones on my engagement ring was starting to wiggle a bit, and we went to visit Michael and his wife, who immediately recognized us (despite the fact that we hadn't been by in 3 years). They took both my rings and fixed the loose stone, checked all the other stones on both my rings, and polished them in less than one hour, and free of charge. I wouldn't buy diamonds anywhere else! Highly recommend! read more

Let me start with this - my review for Define Diamond should have been written last year. But I held off as sometimes I don't like just reviewing the experience. Mostly I'd prefer to review the relationship that follows. I started my engagement ring journey about a year ago. I took out a loan to buy a custom engagement band based upon my little knowledge of the process. Having seen only mall jewelry store prices, I thought buying a good band would be pricier. I anticipated getting my mother's diamond to set in the engagement ring. When the plans to get that stone fell through, I felt like I was out of luck not having enough to buy the entire ring. I was referred to visit downtown LA by a friend telling me I'd be surprised at what I could find. So with nothing left to lose, I jumped in the car and trekked on over to the Jewelry District. My first impression of the area was a wave of panic. I walked around for a bit and came across a small jewelry counter in the middle of a sales floor. After looking at a few rings and diamonds which were out of my budget, the woman helping me noticed my hesitation. She pulled out a business card and told me to walked up the street to visit Michael. So I hit the pavement and walked a couple of blocks up. I found Michael's shop and explained the referral. He was very low pressure, extremely easy to talk to, and explained everything very clearly where I could understand what he was talking about. That's one thing I really appreciated - working with the business owner - not a commissioned salesperson. I wanted a solitaire ring (i.e.: the Tiffany setting) and he made it happen. He explained the diamond in great detail with the certification paperwork included. He even offered me to look at the diamond through a loupe explaining the blemishes noted in the certification document. I had a few other requests for the ring and he always replied with "no problem". Even better yet, he had the ring ready for me 30 minutes after I ordered it. I don't know if he has the means to do that often. But you can't beat that kind of service. I bought my ring from him that day and proposed later that week to a "yes". The ring to this day still gets a lot of compliments. It was very cleanly constructed. Later down the line, my fiancée (now wife) wanted to get the rest of our rings in order. So we headed down that way with her daughter as well to see Michael again. We ended up getting three wedding rings from him that day - 2 for us and 1 for my stepdaughter. He customized each piece without question. And again, the bands get a lot of compliments. Fast forward again - a couple of weeks ago, we noticed a blemish with my wife's wedding band. A couple of small diamonds fell out and I was nervous that I'd have to argue with Michael over the stones. To clarify something, Michael isn't of that character, but a lot of other businesses are. So I expected the worst. My wife and I jumped into the car to make our way downtown again. We got to Michael's shop and he was incredibly humble, offering to make everything right. There was no debate, no 20 questions - just, "let me get this fixed right away." I just picked up the rings from him about an hour ago and am still floored with how great he and his family have been to us. It's a really comforting thought to know that businesses like Define Diamond still exist in this world. We were treated like family and you cannot put a price tag on that. His prices were the best and his service as well. So I now have "a guy" for jewelry. Go visit Define Diamond. You won't regret it for a second. read more

I was looking for a place to resize my engagement ring and I was referred to Michael by my sister. The "bridge" part of my ring is raised so even though I have the correct ring size, my ring was still loose. When I first went to Michael, he suggested placing 2 resizing balls since my ring is halo style and already a small size, he wanted to refrain from cutting it. I was hesitant at first and Michael said if I don't like the resizing balls, I can come back and have them removed. After a few weeks, the resizing balls felt uncomfortable and I went back to Michael. He removed the balls and got the ring resized with no problem! I also came back here a few other times to have my engagement ring cleaned and also my wedding bands. Michael is very professional and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend! read more

My boyfriend and I came here looking at engagement rings from a referral that Michael is the best. We had gone to a couple of other places prior, but after this trip decided that we would rather work with Michael instead. He is extremely knowledgeable, honest, and did not try to push us at all. Very great experience even down to the little things like offering us water and being very patient with my many, many questions. I also enjoyed chatting with his wife who is very friendly, while my boyfriend talked numbers with Michael. I now live in Austin, TX and wanted a specific wedding band. Doing some research online for my ring (white gold, 8mm, comfort fit), it was going to cost me about $1200 for the specific design, etc. That would have been okay - one expects to pay a good amount of money when shopping for gold rings - but then I remembered Michael at Define in L.A. (see my previous review). I decided to give him a call to see what he could do -- knowing he would either have what I was looking for or he could have it made -- and knowing he could get me the best price around. Sure enough. I sent Michael a link to the ring I was looking at online. He sent me an email back immediately letting me know that he could have that exact ring specially made for me, down to every last detail. Low and behold, I received my package today -- I now hold in my hands the EXACT ring I wanted, down to every last detail. It's PERFECT. Oh, and the price. I paid HALF of what I was going to pay at any of the online retails and local jewelers here in TX. To boot, Michael did not charge me shipping or insurance. He sent it to me next day air, fully insured, on his own dime. Are you looking for the best jeweler around? Are you looking for the best prices around? I was too -- I live all the way out in TX now - and there's still no one else I will do business with when it comes to jewelry. If you have not had the pleasure of checking out Define Diamond, I highly suggest you do yourself the favor of doing so. read more

He looked at me with a smile and did whatever he could to help me get the price I wanted. After I was given the price, I honestly thought he was playing a game on me. I couldn't believe what he gave me. It was since then I have gone to him for all my diamond and jewelry needs. No joke, everything everyone else said is true. I wanted stud diamond earrings and traipsed around to about 5 stores and wandered over to this place.. The price was so much cheaper I was almost suspicious, but I had a good feeling and went for it. Well, I decided to have them appraised, and to my delight they were exactly the color and clarity he told me, and they were appraised for much more than the amount I paid. The lady asked where I got them and said "next time I go with you." I love my earrings and got so much more for my money. read more
