Review is for LYNNETTE HJALMERVIK. WARNING: Her poor care almost cost my life. Misdiagnosed me after one ~ten min. visit and a phone call with "family" that I wasn't informed of. Does not really listen or communicate. Cold bedside manner. Only seemed to care about giving me meds. The wrong meds, which worsened my condition until I was sleeping 20+ hrs a day. Don't let her do this to anyone else. She will end up killing someone this way. She comes across as haughty and ignorant without saying much. Save yourself the grief. read more

THE most horrific "counseling" experience I have ever had (and there have been many). Go ANYWHERE else. ANYWHERE! First, her husband takes your credit card number in order to make an initial appointment, "Just in case you don't show up." Nothing like "give me access to your bank account" to make me feel safe. In that initial call when he takes your financial information, there is no warning that the "counseling" office (and I use that term loosely) has animals in it. Only when she guides you to the room does she flippantly ask, "You're not allergic to cats are you?" No, and good thing I don't hate them, or the nappy dog that greeted me too. The "counseling" room is disgusting. Couches are covered in cat hair, ceiling tiles with old water stains, an imposing fish tank that is not calming an any way. The chair in which she sits is nowhere near the couch where my husband and I sat, so it was great feeling as though she had no interest in any intimacy or sitting anywhere near us. And I could barely hear her. She began dropping F-bombs almost immediately, and rolled her eyes at any other attempts at therapy we had made before. She doesn't listen, at all. Repeatedly asked us the same questions and simply didn't hear us. I had to educate her on Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and she ignorantly informed me that I HAD to go through certain steps in grief. Ummmm, I don't "have" to do anything. Her speech was slurred and incoherent and it often appeared she would fall asleep at any moment. My husband was digging his fingers into my leg for two reasons: to keep me from fleeing and because he couldn't believe we were paying this woman $125. I repeat, go ANYWHERE else. read more

Buyer beware! This company apparently cares far more about their office's revenue than their patients' mental health. I recently needed a prescription refilled. According to the last conversation I had w/ my therapist (whom I adore, pity she is associated with this place), she indicated I would not need a return visit - unless I needed to see her, our sessions were wrapped up and the prescription would continue. I requested a refill via my pharmacy on Monday 3/17, which was 'authorization required', and the pharmacy sent the request to DV Counseling the same day. I needed to get this refilled prior to Thurs. 3/20 because I was going out of town on 3/21. When I hadn't heard anything by the 20th, I followed up with their office THREE TIMES that day - morning, mid day, mid afternoon, and let them know of the urgency. On 3/24, I still had not received a call back or a prescription refill, so I called to inquire again and left yet another message. And again after no call back, left another message on 3/28. Yet again on 3/29 left another message, and left a generic voicemail that I needed to speak with the manager or owner that day. That was the ONLY call back I ever got. In that conversation with the manger, after describing my situation, I was told: "It is actually not legal..... er, um.... it's not ethical for (my therapist) to authorize a refill without seeing you". I suggested that he call my therapist to see what the status of my visits were, which I explained, according to my last conversation w/ my therapist were not necessary, and to please call me back later that day after he had spoken with her. Didn't get a call back. I called again on 4/4 to ask that my therapist call me directly. I have to presume that message was never even given to her, because again, no one called. Wouldn't you know..... I am still waiting for ANYONE - ANYONE to call me back as of today, 4/8. Boy, I sure would have liked to have addressed this with them directly, but it appears absolutely nobody is going to pick up the phone and call me - after I left EIGHT MESSAGES over a span of two weeks. Good to know that my mental health isn't really that important to them - and also seems like a good thing that I don't really NEED that prescription or anything! What a shame, because I really REALLY loved my therapist, and previously happily paid out of pocket to see her because she is THAT good. However, after this pathetic absolute lack of communication or customer service, this place doesn't deserve my cash ($180 an hour!) or my business. If Yelp offered negative star reviews, this would be a negative 5 star. read more

Dr. Lynette Hjalmervik is incredible. She's patient-centered, empathetic, a good listener, and treats those with mental illness like human beings, rather than criminals, which had been my prior experience when seeking treatment in Arizona. More than worth the 90-minute drive. read more

They suck! The man that answers the phone cancelled my appointment I had scheduled for 2 weeks. He said, "I thought you werent going to make it." WTF! Almost lost my job because I couldn't get a letter stating I would be out of work from the nurse because he changed my appointment so I didn't even get to see the nurse to prescribe my meds and give me time off to finish outpatient treatment. He said, "go to the emergancy room." That blew up my two weeks of cebrity. What an Asshole thing to say. read more

I called to ask basic questions such as what services they offered, insurance coverage etc. The receptionist was very polite and was willing to help and answered all my questions. When it came down to actually schedule the appointment, per policy they required a card number on the account to because they charged $20 to hold the appointment. If for whatever reason I needed to cancel it was required to notify them 48hrs in advanced or else they would then use that card and withdraw the full amount of $180. I didn't schedule or see them. It just didn't sit well with me that they would need a card number to schedule an appointment. read more

My wife was seeing Ms. Nettles for several years and ended up committing suicide while under her care. I called her office after my wife killed herself. I spoke with her husband (the office manager) and he advised me that he would have to speak with their lawyer before Ms. Nettles could speak with me. I never heard back from them. read more

I found the Deer Valley Counseling's office to look unprofessional and dirty. When you first walk in, they have a Christmas tree that they leave up year round. The office is not welcoming. Even the counseling room is unwelcoming and dark. You sit on an uncomfortable chair in a storage room full of holiday decorations. When I had counseling sessions, they also had groups going on in the next room. You could hear the session and the group counselor's dog barking. I felt uncomfortable sharing things because other people could hear me. After one session, my counselor brought out my plan of action sheet to sign. The receptionist was able to view my plan of action and made it a point to view it. This made me feel uncomfortable and that my privacy was violated. I liked my counselor, but will not be returning. The whole place was weird and gross. read more

I was diagnosed with ADD years ago by a PCP who prescribed a medication which began to produce side effects (after being on it for years). My current PCP was unwilling to prescribe the medication my original PCP and I discussed as an alternative if the original medication was ineffective. After a medical history review, and current tests, the therapist I see at DV Counseling prescribed the medication and has been a fabulous, ongoing, therapist. I chose this therapist because of her excellent credentials (education) and along with her professional and personal experience she relates to my situation(s) and has been extremely helpful with many issues I deal with on a daily basis. The gentleman that schedules appointments and checks me in is very kind and considerate. The office environment is comfortable and welcoming. I enjoyed the one and only greeting from the puppy I received during one of my appointments! It's not the typical "sterile" medical environment of many other counseling offices which is one reason I like this office. I completely understand the payment policy including the charge for cancelled or missed appointments. This is a small business which I don't think handles insurance. When someone cancels an appointment without giving the office enough notice not only does this cost the business income it also makes it difficult to fill the appointment for another person in need. I'm sure due to their patient base, with the various problems from personal to transportation, they experienced a high volume of cancellations and found it necessary to impose a strict monetary cancellation policy. I have never had a problem communicating messages to my therapist through the gentleman that schedules appointments. My suggestion to anyone that has had problems, talk to your therapist and ask if there's any way to improve/change the form of leaving messages. Excellent therapists are difficult to find and I sure wouldn't stop seeing the one I go to without addressing any office problems with her. read more

Very unimpressed with the psychiatrist. She was unhelpful and did not listen to me. She mocked what my therapist and other experienced professionals I know had said about my diagnosis. She was cold and uncaring and rather than help me gave me three names of inpatient treatment centers and sent me on my way in tears. Waste of $180 and my time. read more

I would give these people ZERO starts, but it's not an option. Deer Valley Counseling is a JOKE! When I scheduled my first appointment, they took a $100 deposit to "hold" my appointment. When, my entire family came down with the flu, including myself, I had to cancel the morning of my appointment. I was then told that I would lose the $100 if I did not reschedule the appointment for sometime the next two weeks. I couldn't do that because I was only able to attend on the weekends. Each weekend upcoming was booked for me. So, I lost the $100. I NEVER received full disclosure of this policy. Had I known their business practices, I would have never given my credit card number to them. It's the same as handing over personal information over to a criminal because they stole from me. Who in the world wants to co to a place that obviously cares ONLY about the $$$ and not about the patient? Not me.
