I took my 11 year old son for a cleaning and regular checkup and everything was fine into the dentist came in and started checking up on him when he broke/ took out one of my sons molars, my husband told the doctor what had happened and he proceeded to ignore us, we kept insisting and of course we were worried about the situation, he kept trying to ignore and as we kept insisting he asked if we were sure if he had all his teeth before we came in ( my son is autistic so we have to brush his teeth for him, we do this everyday in the morning and at night, also we had brushed his teeth right before going into the appointment) we told him we were sure so he said we had to go to the E.R for x-rays in case he swallowed it, when my husband told him to refer us because he had been the one to do it, he got mad and just said if you say I'm the one that did it, tell the doctor that as if that would've solved the situation. I want to clarify that the issue here is not even the error that he made but the way that he tried to gaslight us in telling us that he had already lost the tooth when he clearly was bleeding, also as a parent of a special needs child this was devastating to be almost shooed away from a dentist office where I had been going for years. I don't know why the rating of this place is so low, haha. They have treated me very well! Whenever I have pain with my teeth, or just any issue with my teeth in general, they almost ALWAYS offer same day service. If not, a couple of days later. All the other dentists I've been to always have available appointments with a minimum of 1-2 month wait. The entire staff is very friendly. This is my favorite dentist. :) read more

My three year old had a check up with Dr. Kakar last September and I was pleased with the level of care he provided. The staff throughout the office were nice as well. The dental assistant who initially cleaned my sons teeth was gentle enough with him and didn't seem too bothered with his initial screams. Dr. Kakar engaged in some conversation with my son before the exam, which I believe lessened his anxiety after the cleaning. After the thumbs up from the doc, he offered me some advice on cleaning my sons teeth in a non-condescending way which was much appreciated. The waiting room was clean with a couple of toy boxes to keep the little ones busy. Some cartoon was playing in the waiting room and also on the tvs in the patient area which was a nice little distraction. A complimentary toothbrush and stickers were the highlight of the trip, according to my little one. The office will send out a postcard as a reminder for the next check up. read more

I stayed with Dr. Kakar for far too long. That's on me and my family for not transferring to another dentist sooner, and I will take responsibility for it. It also means that he and his entire staff managed to miss an impacted canine for fourteen years. I had had several x-rays there throughout my childhood, because I'm missing a few adult teeth and wisdom teeth, and never once did anyone ever mention to me or my parents that there was an entire tooth in my jaw. The trouble started when I transferred to Hilltop (highly, highly recommend, by the way) and they requested he send over my x-rays. For some reason, he refused to do so unless Dr. Scelfo paid him for it. He didn't, and I got an x-ray done there. It's a good thing I did, because god knows how long I would have went not knowing that I had a canine in the roof of my mouth otherwise. Even I could see that there was a sideways tooth in my jaw. I do not know how a man who was literally trained to do this and does this for a living managed to miss what I could see instantly. I don't know if he had been using outdated equipment, or selective blindness came into play for a decade and a half, but it was there and it had been my whole life. This problem could have been fixed when I was in elementary school and my jaw was still soft enough for this to be a relatively quick fix. Instead, I will be taking my senior portraits with braces and rubber bands on, and will have had these for three years on November 9th. Don't bring your kid here if you want whatever dental issue they may have to be fixed in a timely manner. I'm begging you, take them to literally any other reputable pediatric dentist. read more

This office and Dr. Kakar should have no ratings! It's cattle call style appointment. They don't let parents back in with their children and strap your kid down when receiving dental work. IF you have Medicaid they love to over charge for services they don't provide. They go thru orthodontist every 3 months. My kid had braces never got the retainer. The front office staff is rude. read more

We have been going to this dentist office since we moved to Virginia. We have had really good experiences and only a very few not so great. Sometimes they get appointments and cost of visit wrong but they are always really nice and own up to their mistake. read more

Dr. Kakar and his staff are great. he treated both my sons , each time we leave his office, we are happy. I am very excited bc i just found out that he opend a new location in tyson area, as we are moving closer to his new location in Sept. This staff is extremely unpleasant and the business practices are unethical. They will not accommodate families with more than 2 children. Additionally, the receptionist will tell you that they only do this to families on Medicaid. It makes for an extreme inconvenience that they will make you schedule one child on a completely separate day just because they are afraid you "might" cancel and OH NO, they have a spot that is not filled. This was a horrible 1st experience. Rude staff ...they were only interested in socializing with each other. The woman that called us all back (she called 5 kids at one time) to the chairs was horrible, not comforting at all. She cut me off when trying to explain some very serious things about my son. My son thought she was really mean. I mean these are kids....have some bed side manner. Show some cool interest in the kids....joke around, interact. The staff seemed weirdly uninterested to say the least. This place might look cute on the inside but the people are not there for the kids at all. I left upset and so did my son. I was appalled at how they handled EVERYTHING, especially the KIDS! YOU MIGHT WANT TO CONSIDER NOT GOING HERE...they cattle call the kids, speak rude to the parents, are disorganized like crazy. They aren't kind or friendly. My son was terrified of them all. I was so upset at the way we were treated, I will not go back. I will drive 2 hours round trip to go to a kindhearted concerned dentist before I would ever subject my son to this place again! I will add that the female dentist was fun and nice but the other Dentist was rude, impatient and the entire rest of the staff didn't even make eye contact or seem at all concerned. The hygienist stopped in the middle of being in a kids mouth to complain to another coworker about something, she was angry and not interested in how she was acting or how it felt to the kid whose mouth was open and being worked in. In addition the flooring is super slick! Watch out if it's raining. They really need a SECURE rug that leads to the door. After seeing the way in which they handle parents and kids I would also have concerns as to how thorough they are in other areas too. I HATED this place. They need to hire new staff that cares for people because there are other dentists to go to. read more

Dr. Kakar was outstanding with our two year old daughter. She had broken part of one of her premolars. Dr. Kakar did a superior job attending to her. Making sure she was comfortable with the office and dental equipment. I have never seen my daughter warm up to a medical professional as well as with him. He cleaned her teeth and even fixed the tooth the same visit, all while making my daughter comfortable and happy. Dr. Kakar is a dentist I would have wanted as a child. I highly recommend Dr. Kakar and his staff to any parent of a toddler, who has dental needs! read more

My experience with Dr Kakar was excellent initially. They were a god send. I had an immediate need for a night guard because I have been suffering from ear aches, teeth hurting, and headaches. I started calling around. Every other office was closed. Dr Kakar's office fit me in same day. Note I am a very nervous patient. They made me laugh and sooo comfortable. Best fitting experience yet with Dr Kakar. Update: I picked up the night guard and dr Hasan fitted it. I complained how it hurt and was told it was supposed to be tight. After receiving and wearing the night guard for 3 nights I went in for another fitting as my teeth hurt. After 2nd fitting with Dr Hasan and my 4th night of wearing it, my whole face hurt. I could barely open my mouth. Went to another dr, who said it wasnt fitted properly and he spent over 2 hours trying to fit it correctly to my mouth. Dr Hasan did a poor job of the fitting and I cant recommend this office for night guard fittings. read more

If I could give this group a negative I would. They seem all pleasant until you really need something. I have four children that have all been there. Great service, all cheerful BUT BEWARE of all the stuff they make you sign. A recent single mom to 4, we have needed to move out of state and needed their x-rays transferred. Apparently I did sign something that says I would pay "x" amount for them to transfer their files. Wasn't thinking at the time that I would need them transferred or it was in the fine print with the million pages they give you to hide such fees. Mind you though I did pay and insurance did pay for them the first time around so technically they are mine. And they feel that it is worth 50 dollars each child to get my records to their new dentist. THIS IS WHERE THEY RIPE YOU OFF!! SO UNFAIR AS MY CURRENT DENTIST DOES NOT CHARGE FOR TRANSFERRING XRAYS. JUST GOES TO SHOW WHO IS GOOD BUSINESS AND WHO IS NOT. When I called to ask where the fee cost comes in (just out of curiosity), like why is it so much, its not that involved to send over copies of their x-rays - the ladies became rude. Rudy I believe was the one woman I spoke to and all she wanted to do was get me off the phone as soon as she could claiming all she wanted to do was help me. Um no, not what was happening. So sad that I went there in the beginning, wish I knew then what I know now, I would be very hesitate to go to that practice all on the principal that I paid for those xrays already and now you feel its right to charge your customers another $50 to get them to another dentist because you are now out of state, so disappointed in them as a business. read more

I took my 9 year old daughter here today for fillings. The experience has traumatized her so badly she may never walk into another dentist without breaking into tears again. Number one they wouldn't allow me to go back with her. They strapped her body,arms,legs and head down to the chair she said .when she cried out to stop the doctor covered her mouth with his hand and told her to "just shush". When she continued to cry the doctor then said to her " if you keep crying ill have to use this" showing her a oversized needle. She said she could feel everything they did in her mouth,drilling,scraping,etc.when she told them it hurt,they ignored her. When she said she wanted me her mother the ignored her. Worst experience for a child ever. I will never return. read more

Dr. Kakar was very rude to my daughter's. They are 6 and 12. Girls do not have best brushing habits (hay they're kids). Dr. Kakar had to show me and belittle the girls in front of other patients. He had no bedside manners. I did get quotes for cavities that needed filling way overpriced! The 20% I had to pay for oldest it would have been 290.00 and youngest 350.00. That was filling 2 cavities on oldest and 3 in youngest. We saw a new dentist and new dentist did not find cavitites in oldest and youngest still had 3 cavitites to fill but cost will be 200.00. read more

I was scheduling appointment for filling and build-up but when I've got there, the doctor said he will do only cleaning today. Receptionist said my insurance was in-network but after service was done they said it's out-of-network. Now I need my x-rays to go to different dentist and they want extra money for the copies, which I've already paid! So I cannot do a new x-ray due to radiation risk and the only way to get copies, ti's to pay them for something what you have paid already. Do not go there, save your time and find a better place. read more

Sure everything appears nice & friendly for the 1st cleaning but please BEWARE of unnecessary xrays & procedures. If you have that gut feeling that somethings not right get a second opinion. I spoke w/ two other dentists before Dr. Kakar wanted to sedate & surgically remove a root from my daughters gums when there was obviously no reason to do so. Also, if you ever decide to change dentists, they will charge you for a copy of your records $25. read more

I took my four children to see Dr. Kakar. It was their first visit to the dentist. They are aged 6, 4, 3, and 2. The problems began as soon as I stepped into his Fredericksburg office. I waited an hour for my appointment and I got there 15 minutes prior to my appointment time. I had to go to the counter and ask when we were going to be seen. No food or drink is allowed in the waiting room, so imagine how hard it was trying to entertain my kids in a busy waiting room that has only a crate of blocks and torn up old books and magazines! When all my kids were finally being treated, the hygienist shows me a list of everything I was going to have to pay for that day. I knew they were not right and I stopped the treatment they were doing on my kids. They hadn't bothered calling my insurance to find out that I was covered 100% for all preventative care. So it took another 30 minutes for them to figure that out. When my kids got back into the seats, they were past their point of good behavior. My 2 year old daughter was sitting in my lap as Dr. Kakar examined her teeth. She was scared and was crying and trying to get up. Her saliva was running down her throat and no one was suctioning her out. She began choking on her spit. I told Dr. Kakar that she was choking and that she couldn't breath. I felt her gasping for air. Dr. Kakar told me she was fine and to just keep holding her arms. After she continued choking, I sat up and told him we were done. My daughter couldn't breath. Dr. Kakar then tried to scold me like I was a child. He treated me with no respect and told me that I was part of the problem. He is a jerk and he has horrible bedside manner. All he sees is dollar signs. He spent maybe less than a minute examining each one of my children. Needless to say, I will never go back to Dr. Kakar. I want him to know that his horrible attitude toward me, my children and how unprofessionally his office is run, is the reason I will never give him my business again. My daughter had little pin prick marks under her eyes after we sat up in the chair. Any idiot doctor would know that this is due to lack of oxygen. He tried to tell me she wasn't choking, that she was only crying. Oh, and don't cancel the day of your appointment either. They will still charge you! Unbelievable! read more

My first son went to Dr. Kakar's office multiple times. We never waited less than 30 minutes for our scheduled appointments, and usually waited 45-60 minutes to get in. Dr. Kakar is very nice and friendly, but I have some serious concerns about the quality of dental work and unnecessary procedures (fillings) that he performed on my son. When we went to another dentist for a second opinion my fears were confirmed. Cavities that did not need to be filled were capped, and with ugly silver caps that will be there until his baby teeth fall out. Unnecessary, expensive and painful for my little guy. I'd advise you to look elsewhere! read more

He's a great dentist...but good luck with the billing!! My 2 year old daughter needed a crown for a broken tooth & they made me pay EVERYTHING upfront, even though they are a prefered provider for our insurance. I was hesitant but I needed to get my daughters tooth fixed so I paid it...all $602.80 of it. They receptionist assured me that they would cut me a check for the difference asap. Here we are 3 months later and NOTHING! I can't even get ahold of the office. Needless to say, we will not go back to him again. read more

Dr. Kakar is Worst Orthodontist I met in a long-time, rude and didn't listen to one thing I said about my child & the treatment I wanted for him. . I'm very displeased with this Orthodontist. Very unprofessional, charged right out of the office after I spoke to him, I personally don't think he can be trusted with any child period. read more
