Came here for my boyfriends wisdom teeth extraction. When the appointment was made, they did not tell us if it was a consultation or extraction. Apparently it was both. The consultation was brief and did not go over all necessary info. They said they will take out the bottom two and when asked if they can take out all 4, the lady seemed hesitant but did not have a reason why or showed the x-rays to make sure if all four are ready to come out. I work at a dental office, but my boyfriend has always gone to Kool Smiles. I know what is needed and what's not. They said they will use laughing gas, numbing gel, numbing shot AND put him under. All that is more than necessary and seems to just add extra procedures on the bill. SHADY PLACE. DO NOT RECOMMEND. read more

The only reason why I'm giving three stars is because the waiting room is filled with a mini jungle gym and interactive computers for the kids. The hygienist, Tan, is super nice. My daughters appointment was at 11:15. We got there at 10:45 to fill out some paperwork if need be. At 11:45 I asked the front desk how much longer and she said probably another 20min. I hate waiting. This is why they have appointment TIMES. We finally got called back at 11:55. And then proceeded to wait for a chair in the back for another 15/20 min. It seems like they overbook. Everyone was running around. And some of the girls looked unprofessional. Some were nice for sure (I don't know their names). The place has potential, but this waiting game they play is too much. Will find another dentist. read more

I took my daughter here yesterday for her first ever dentist appointment (she's 16 months) and it was a great experience! There was a play place in the waiting room that my daughter enjoyed while I filled out the paperwork. There was quite a bit of paperwork to fill out (some of which seemed redundant), but I kind of expected that since it was our first visit. Within 10 minutes of getting there, we were shown to the back by our sweet hygienist, Jessica. She did a great job interacting with my daughter and keeping Mommy calm and informed. The back is open so you can see the other patients. I didn't mind that, as the dentist saw us come in and came over right away. They had me hold my daughter and lean her head back in the dentist or hygienists lap, which was great as she was able to look at mommy for reassurance while getting examined. After the dentist checked her, Jessica took over and brushed my daughter's teeth and gave her some vitamins and then we were done. My daughter's favorite part was picking her prize for being cavity-free! Overall a great experience and we will be back! They also take tricare dental, which was a big benefit for us. read more

Ohhhhh boy the female dentist here has NO BUSINESS working with a child NONE!! Scheduled THREE appointments to get my 7 year olds tooth taken out.. FINALLY saw the female dentist today. She was in the room for less than 5 minutes went to do the needle my daughter said "ouch that hurts" and turned to her side.. the dentist IMMEDIATELY said she will need to be sedated to do her teeth.. ummm what?!?! We can sit here for HOURS and you decide to try to do a needle ONE time and decide you can't be bothered?!? Mind you this was my daughters FIRST dental experience outside of a cleaning.. I would not take my dog to this woman! MOST dentists that work with children explain to the child what they are doing and make an attempt to get the work done.. they don't make ONE attempt and decide it's not worth their time.. let's you know your child's health isn't as important as that paycheck. read more

I had the worst experience today. First i had to wait 3 weeks to be able to get an appointment on a saturday, mind you they say walk in are welcome, what a joke!!!!! i had an appointment for my 3 years old kid at 1pm so i got there at 12:30 pm waiting in the parking lot until the appointment time, then i get call from the dentist saying the doctor won't see any more patients for the day and we will need to reschedule the appointment. I went in the office, and there were some people still waiting to be seen. The office only opens until 2pm, so he refused to see patients for 1 more hour?????? What's the point of confirming this appointment the 2 times they had send me an email to do so if they will call me 20 minutes before the appointment to cancel!. Stay away....very unprofessional dentist works there. read more

Well I've been saying I was going to find a new dentist but after today I will be doing just that because I've never been annoyed and irritated when going to any dentist. First off whoever scheduled my appointment during spring break, that was just not cool and I'm going to leave it at that . I walk in early to my appointment at 8 and there were people who walked in after me that were seen first. I signed in and was told I would be called back up never happened and as I sit writing this yelp still haven't been called back up. I sat in your office a whole hour and then I walked out. read more

I will try not to make this review long but to the point. The Annandale Kool Smiles location on Arlington Boulevard in Fairfax VA is NOT child decorated, it's dirty and nasty. There was dust and hair strans on the floor and around the dental chairs. You can tell this location it's not well kepted or being cleaned on a regular bases, and it should be it's a dental facility. ( they are working and looking in our kids mouth , for god sakes) You can't tell when the last time the cleaning staff has cleaned this location . I was there a days ago with my grandson and I will never EVER EVER EVER bring him back to this location again. Not only that this location was dirty. The service was very slow we had a 1:45 P.m. appointment my grandson & I arrived at 1:30 for registration and parking purposes. My grandson was not seen until 2:50 pm. My 1 year old grandson was only there for a cleaning and fluoride treatment . We were given a dirty scribbled on plastic serving tray to scribbled on some more with old broken already used hand me down crayons ( that were used and open already ) and a already colored in coloring book ( I took them away and gave it back to the staff member) The play area was torn , it had empty water, bottles, napkins ,tissues ,candy papers, dust behind and on the sides of the slide. My grandkids normally attend Kool Smiles in Fredericksburg Virginia on Plank Rd. I give Fredericksburg location and staff 10 for cleanliness, respectable staff, punctuality, courteous , politeness . And patient participation with activities and awards for the kids. The location is larger and very very clean and well kept the play area is put together neatly for the kids clean and it is not ripped up and it definitely does not have a garbage on in or around the facility. Annandale local should get tips from the Fredericksburg Virginia location on how to maintain their office cleanliness and treat the patients as well. I love the Fredericksburg Kool Smile's location and its staff. I will continue to bring my grands back every 6 months for there check up to the Fredericksburg VA location. All though they both now live in Fairfax VA. Your facility and and staff is well worth the drive. read more

Kool Smiles - General Dentistry Near Me - Fredericksburg, Virginia

My son is a patient here since 3 y.o and is almost 6. Have only had positive experiences here. The wait hasn't been longer than 10 minutes, any staff member we have encountered has been friendly, polite and efficient. His appointments have been quick and hassle free and most importantly tear-free. Will continue to bring my son here. He enjoys the play area while we wait, too! read more

This was not a good place to take my kids. We were here because Kool Smiles takes tri-care, but we regret coming to this location. The manner in which my kids were treated has never been a 'good' encounter while coming here. They would have received 4 of 5 stars if I was not taking my kids here. read more

Had an appointment setup for noon with my 3 year old and I arrived 10 minutes early to check in. We did not get taken back until 1!!!!! Even after we got in the back we were skipped over 3 times!!!! The first two time was because they lost track of who the dentist had seen and the third was when I took my son to the bathroom (for the first time since arriving I might add) and even though we had patiently waited for over 90 minutes they couldn't wait 5 for him to finish and we got moved to the bottom of the list. Overall we spent about 2.5 hours there for someone to simply brush his teeth (something he does everyday at home!!!). The only semi redeeming quality was that the staff was friendly. Needless to say we will not be going back :( read more

Overall my experience was good. My daughter had to have a procedure done. I was a little more nervous than she was because she had to have "laughing gas" but the gadget that checked her oxygen level kept beeping and I felt it wasnt being checked enough.. I kept an eye on it myself even though it was not my job but anything to make sure heart rate and oxygen level was right. Staff was friendly.. The dentist was good and he got the job done. The dentist assistant her name was "Tee" she did alot and was very nice she was running around doing alot in the office and she made my daughter feel at ease by making an Occasional funny face. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this place. I've been bringing both of my children here for a few years now, and there are a few helpful things I feel I can share. For the positives, my children like coming here. The waiting room is fun and all of the staff we've encountered have been friendly. The dentist goes out of his way to make sure the kids are comfortable (he managed to give my seven year old shots in his gums without him even noticing!). And they give the kids a toy when they're done, along with a toothbrush and floss. For the negatives, expect to spend a long time waiting. It almost always takes almost an hour after my appointment to be called back. Once in the back, it moves very slow. There never seems to be any sense of urgency at all at this place. Also, you never know which dentist will actually see your child until it's that time. Basically, I like that my kids don't mind coming here. They were terrified of the dentist they had before we started going to Kool Smiles. I just wish that it didn't take so long every time. Forget doing anything else with your day, if you have an appointment here, be ready to wait. I deal with the crazy wait times because everyone from the desk to the hygienists to the dentists have always been kind and friendly, especially towards my children. I like that parents are allowed to stay with their children through the whole process, and they work very hard to make it a pleasant experience for the kids. read more

Kool smiles contacted me for my childrens appointment. Was to be 12/10/16 for both at 12:15pm. Why did i get a email reminder saying 1 appt at 12;15pm and the other at 1pm. That is not what i was told. And to know that the wait is extremely long. I have no patience for this foolery. I have experienced the waiting game too many times. and they do not even apologize or even ask how you are. They basically know it sucks. i most likely will take them else where as i have done with my other son. read more

Worst experience ever. I was appalled at the poor customer service offered her. I will never go back to a chain dentist office again after this sorry excuse for a service provider. It is obvious none of the staff is invested in anything other than collecting a paycheck at this place. Word of advice to anyone reading this... stick with a Dentist owned office. They will provide better customer service. We only went to kool smiles as it was touted as kid friendly but a play area does not make up for the shoddy service. read more

Awful experience! Thank god. They referred us to another dentist. The staff doing xrays were rough with my four year old. Made comments that "my kid was the to difficult to deal with " because he gagged on the card board during xrays. My son is now terrified of the dentist because of how he was treated. I would never in my life recommend them TO ANYONE! absolutely NO PATIENCE, or understanding with smaller children! If you go there, good luck! You're definitely gonna need it! read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. 2 hours and 30 minutes wait for a cleaning and we had an appointment. We ended up leaving because they didn't know if the when the wait for our 9.45 appointment would be. We left at 12pm that's freaking bs. Kids missed a whole day of class and I missed work because they over booked. This was not a one time problem and they can't do anything to compensate the lack of professionalism. Go somewhere else because this place is not worth it. Plus is smell horrible in the waiting area. I WOULD GIVE NO STARS IF I COULD read more

This place has no organization what so ever. The staff is not trained properly and look lost. They were arguing among each other in front of the patients. I could tell that procedures were not being followed by the assistants because the doctors were complaining that forms were not being filled out correctly. We arrived there at 1108 and did not get called in until 1215, over an hour wait. They are understaffed and overbooked with appointment. At the end of the appointment they attempted to have me sign a document stating that I would come back in 6 months. They tried to trick me into signing this document at least two times and I refused to sign twice. Their equipment and floors wear filthy. DO NOT COME HERE if you like quality treatment and work. read more

They get a 1 only because I can't give negatives . I took my 3yr old there for his 1st ever dental appt. They told me it was going to be over $300. My wife made the appt so I was going in blind However I came to find out they had him luster listed as 6 yrs old and were planning to do a series of x-rays . So after correcting that, I was told it would be $89, which was in the realm of other advertised prices. The receptionist was rude as well as the 1st dental assistant we saw. A second dental assistant was much nicer and even noticed a discoloration of my son's tooth that she said could have been from injury. It appears dentists there just go round robin from a central room. The 1st dentist was in and out in less than a minute She didn't even notice the issue the hygienist did b/c she was so disinterested in doing a good examination So I asked the hygienist and she said she would get another dentist. So the second dentist was better and actually wanted to do an x-ray . It came back fine I knew there would likely be an additional fee for the xray but I was never billed on checkout . Here's where I really lose faith in the company . A couple weeks later I receive a bill in the mail, but it didn't show my original amount credited correctly on the bill and also showed 2 additional services on the bill that were not xray related . I called about the bill..again rudeness from receptionist and I got hung up on while on hold. I have ended up having to call 3 times, I have emailed a billing coordinator they put me in touch with I received 3 different bills from them with differing procedure codes and differing credits. I took my time to document all this put it in a spreadsheet and email the billing guy. He never responded to my email but I did eventually get a bill in the mail that seemed right from what the delta should have been. I paid that, but I have now gotten 2 additional bills in the mail and no contact from him and no explanation. I think the company has shady billing practices and is just hoping I don't notice. I will never take any of my family there again and I now need to figure out who to contact about their shady practices. I'm not sure if the better business bureau covers medical fields but I need to take more of my time to deal with their incompetency. I suggest you stay far away! read more

My husband took my 4 year old daughter here on Monday 6/27. He said when he arrived the staff was very friendly and there was a little jungle gym type thing for kids to play on. I'm not sure who exactly worked on my child's teeth but my husband said that they did an excellent job! My daughter wasn't scared at all. The dentist was very personable and tried to make it fun for her. I would recommend this place to anyone with a small child. Great job! read more

This is my daughter's dentist. We were going to the Mechanicsville Branch for the past 5 years. We were not very happy with the wait at that office, so were glad to see the Fredericksburg Branch (which is also a closer drive) open. Our first visit went very well with cleaning and time waiting. Our second visit was cancelled after I had already taken off work early and drove half way because they ran out of material to do the procedure. Our third visit was great with material and wait time. I think that this is a fairly new office and once they get things rolling a little more the ride will be much smoother. In all, we are very pleased with this office and their staff and have already recommended it to several friends and family for their children. read more

Every time we go to this dentist something else goes wrong. The last two times we had to wait for over an hour to been seen and then we were told my daughter had a cavity that needed to be filled with an estimate of $67 but then when her dad took her, it cost over $100 because they filled an extra tooth that was never discussed. I am highly disappointed in this dentist because the dentist is a traumatic experience for some kids which is why we picked a pediatric dentist and every time we go, it just keeps getting worse. I am having her switched to my dentist for her next appointment because we just won't go back. read more

I decided to go to this dentist because the previous dentist office that I went to for 10+ years no longer accepted my insurance. I am use to having my children see one dentist hygienist who does most of the work and they sit in one chair until the work is completed. If this is what you are looking for, then this place is not for you. Pros: The atmosphere is great and kept my two year old son entertained. Which was great since we were there for 2 1/2 hours. The employees wee friendly. Cons: I was told to be there 1/2 before my appointment to complete my paperwork, so I waited for over an hour for my children to be seen. I expected someone to tell me if my kids are cleaning their teeth well and areas that they need to improve. This did not happen. So of course I asked during the brief visit with the dentist and I was told to wait for the x-rays (which is took the most time and rely on). You have one person who does x-rays, one person who does cleaning and one person who does anything else. The teeth cleaning was very brief and in my opinion not thorough at all. I was asked if I wanted a sealant by two different people, and when I said yes one person told me that they didn't know if they could do it today and another took me back into the consultant room to ask and I was then put back in the waiting room until another dental chair was available. Yes the dental chair was filled before my kids finished their x-rays. There is also a sign that says keep your kids supervised. Which of course is understandable except that there was a child there with no parent. The entire 2 21/2 hours. At one point he cornered my very small son, and another time he started hitting him. On and did I mention that I finally left after sitting and waiting to be seen AGAIN. This was a horrible experience and I would not take your child to this place. Take your child to a dentist who will take the time to really treat your child. read more

I took my 5 year old son here for a checkup, after waiting an incredibly long time we were finally taken back. After the dental assistant cleaned my sons teeth and took x-rays the dentist came and poked at my sons teeth for about a minute before declaring that he had 2 cavities and we would have to come back later to have them filled. When we came back we saw a different dentist that was very rude and uncaring to how nervous and afraid my son was. I thought bringing my son to an office specifically for children would be understanding and sympathetic to frightened children but I have never been to a more uncaring place! My son was cooperative and trying hard to be brave, but when the dentist numbed his mouth it was too much for him. He had never been numbed before so he didn't know what was happening and he started crying and trying to turn his head away. This angered the dentist, which didn't help calm my son. He suggested something called a papoose board. I asked what that was and he proceeded to try and strap my son down on a wooden board claiming that it calmed kids down. I don't know who finds being tied down and unable to move relaxing! It, of course, did not calm my son down but freaked him out even more. I wanted to stop everything for a moment and just talk to my son and try to explain what was happening but the dentist flat refused to continue. He said I would have to take him to a specialist to be sedated because he just couldn't be worked on otherwise. I took my son to Garrisonville Dental in Stafford a short while later, to give him time to get over the trauma at Kool Smiles. The entire staff was very friendly and warm to me and especially my son. They explained everything they were going to do before they did it so there were no surprises. The x-ray process was quick and painless and when the dentist did his exam he found no cavities! So what happened at Kool Smiles? Did the dentists misread the x-rays? Did they mix up my sons x-rays with another child? Or where they trying to milk more money out of me or my insurance by "fixing" problems that weren't there? Needless to say I will NEVER bring my son to Kool Smiles again. read more

Staff may be ok however, billing and the scheduling department is a nightmare. I would give them zero stars if I could. Billing is very slow. I took my kid to this location 16 months ago and today I received a bill in the mail. Called the billing department and they were no help at all. I have spent hours on the phone with them and the insurance company to try to figure out the problem. Once the issue was identified Kool Smiles started to reference charges owed that were not on the invoice supplied. Ghada, Winton and Dr. Odey are AMAZING to say the least. Winton has amazing customer service and was so patient with my 7 year old and my 2 year old. She took her time and explained each portion of the cleaning to both me and my daughters and really made us all feel well cared for and comfortable. Ghada only enhances the experience when she assisted with the extraction of my daughters tooth. My daughter and I were both scared and she calmed our fears and help us to both feel comfortable and safe. She was detailed accurate and friendly providing chit chat to my daughter to help assist with her nerves and even a BLANKET which really helped. I had attempted the extraction two times prior to today and my daughter and I were too afraid to get it completed but once we came to this team, we felt completely comfortable and ready to move forward. Dr.Odey did an amazing job as well. He was quick precise and friendly. He knows what he is doing and is great at what he does. Hands down this is the best dental team I have seen and I will be back for my teeth sooner than later! read more

I have taken my son here 2 times. There were a few things I didn't like so I am moving my son to my dentist. Of course, my son loved the slide in the waiting room. I didn't like the fact that they scheduled my next appointment without any input from me. I have a very specific schedule with my work and can only work in appointments on certain days so I had to go back to the front desk and reschedule my appointment. I also didn't like how the patients are all seen in one open room. I'm used to more privacy than that and did not like that format. The hygenists and the doctors were all friendly so I didn't have any issues with them. read more

Setting up an appointment was pretty seamless. I called they figured out my location we got an appointment the next day. We arrived about 20 minutes early because I knew we had paperwork to do and I had my 4 year old and 5 year old going to their first appointments. We waited till about 5:20pm to be seen, our appointment was at 4:15pm. It's great that they had a play area but seriously over an hour later? Then we were called back, the kids were seated in chairs, but not next to each other so I had to bounce between them both. We proceeded to wait an additional 20 min. The dentist came and checked out my son; said he had multiple cavities, which seemed strange because he takes really good care of his teeth. I digress. My daughter was fine they brushed and cleaned her teeth then applied fluoride after some X-rays and she was good, when they were working on her they were very friendly. My son waited another 15 min then had his teeth brushed & cleaned after X-rays. So once they actually got to work it took about 15 minutes but we waited 2 hours first. The staff was nice enough, but there seemed to be a lack of communication between the hygienists are dentist because people were getting skipped and it seemed disorganized in the back. It was the best vibe for a mama bear like me. We'll probably finish the next appointment for my son then go elsewhere. So bummed that Tricare recommended them. read more

I've been in the waiting room 30 minutes, I can already tell I will not be coming back. They are clearly overbooked, the waiting room is PACKED! Was looking for a pediatric dentist for my daughter and decided to try this place out. My first time there I filled out all the necessary paperwork before my appointment time and proceeded to wait 45 minutes past my appointment time. It appeared like they were over booked because the waiting room was packed. I went up and asked the lady how much longer until it was our turn because I had somewhere else to be soon. She said it should be our turn in 5 minutes so I waited another 15 minutes and then I went up to the front desk told them to shred my papers and left. I will not be returning. They expect us to be on time then they should be on time. They should let you know when they're running late when you first get there so you can decide whether or not you want to stay. read more

Their billing department is the worst! It has happened again with them overcharging us. I wanted to give them another chance since my kids begged me to continue coming here after last billing mistake. This time there was a filling that needed to be done that was paid in full before the procedure. I get a bill one month later that reads I not only still owe for the filling I paid in full but I owe for two other fillings that were never done, they didn't exist. The front desk says they no longer print out the billing statement there that I have to call an 800 number. So I called this mysterious 800 number and tell the billing clerk what had happened and she tells me that the payment I paid in full for the one filling, they actually took that payment to pay for another bill for my daughter...what? Why would you take a payment for one procedure and not pay that procedure off and take the money and pay for someone else's partial procedure? On top of that this billing clerk tells me I owe for two more fillings that were done that same day. I tell her there were no other two fillings that there was only one filling and she tells me well it's right here on the computer and that means you have to pay. So basically the billing clerk did not care what I was telling her about the two other fillings that never happened and I'm being charged for them and she still demanded me to pay with no research on her end. All she kept repeating was how do you wanna pay for this, how do you wanna pay for this, how do you wanna pay for this? And that's how we always get overcharged, because they move your payments around and you cannot keep track of what you paid for. Sorry Kool Smiles we really wanted to stay with you but we have to go somewhere else. We can't financially afford these mistakes you're making. read more
