Wow where to start...Deep Six Divers has made getting scuba certified such an incredible, fun, and informative process. I've always heard great things about this shop, so when I finally made the decision to get certified, I knew exactly where to go. The knowledge of the staff and the passion they have for diving is apparent in everything they do. I have learned SO much and felt so confident in my ability to dive by the end of the class that getting in the ocean and applying my skills was no problem at all. They take the time to help you get fitted to the gear that you need for class and any other items you may need. John is the shop owner and he has always been so nice every time I've been in the shop. Brant was the primary person giving lectures and teaching the skills in our class, he is in the process of becoming an instructor and he was so friendly and knowledgeable. Don was observing Brant during our classes to help him get his instructor certification; Don took us on our checkout dive in the Keys as well and you can tell that he is so passionate about his career in diving and instructing. He kept everything fun and explained things in a way that was understandable and made sure that any questions we had were answered without making anyone feel silly for asking. We've also gotten help from Christina, Hector, Tyler, and Ryan(and a few others) but I seriously cannot say enough good things about these people! They have given us skills and knowledge that we will use throughout our whole dive career and I can't wait to continue learning from them! read more

Boomer and the Gang at Deep Six are the authority on diving in Lakeland. Other places that offer the "get certified in a weekend" program are setting divers up to kill themselves. No such nonsense here. Their basic open water certs are six weeks long and are thorough, challenging, and exciting - but make no mistake about it: you won't be in the water until they're ready to put you there. Boomer has certified thousands of divers in this area over his multi-decade career and produces hands-down the best divers around. You will leave the course a certified diver ready to blow bubbles safely and confidently. The Keys trip package they offer is the best deal on the planet, and he continues to keep the prices affordable for the average man to have a great weekend down in the Keys a few times per year. I went through the course in 2012 and it's been one of the best things I've ever done. Their facilities are very nice, indoor heated pool and a great dive shop to boot. Seriously, go see these guys. Visited here to get a new snorkel and mask for my scalloping trip. I had no clue what to expect. I was greeted and helped right away. Didn't catch his name but the gentleman who helped me fit my mask so leaks would not happen and I got a dry snorkel. Tested it out in my pool prior to my trip tommorow and there's no leaks and it feels great! Defiantly recommend this place. Very helpful to people who are unsure what they want/need. I will defiantly be coming back for my dive cert. when I am ready to do so. read more

As a Diver of 24 years I trust only one shop and one man with my treasured "antique" USDivers regulator. That man is John Appleboom. He does repair and service onsite. His shop didn't train me originally- a long out of business shop did. His instructor's retrained me and taught me to Advanced Deep Level. I do not recommend anyone else. I was SO EXCITED to dive. Went to deep six and purchased a bunch of gear and was very happy with the service I received while trying on masks and snorkels. After I started my classes I really liked my instructor. Felt like we built a good relationship and was comfortable in the pool environment. I was a single in a class with a lot of partners. When it came time for our dive at the lake ( about 2 weeks before the keys trip) I was placed with a different instructor and a partner I never met. I was pissed. I was thrown into a situation I was not comfortable with and that, in my opinion, after a rainy few days was dangerous. I was upset and had a difficult time the entire dive. It was painful. I left upset and went home with a headache. Several days later, my ears continued to hurt. Went to my doctor and had ear drum damage from a simple dive at the lake. I made my instructor aware, he informed me get I could not participate in the keys trip I had already booked and paid for. I never heard from Deep Six again. Nobody called to ask of I was okay. I was never contacted about rescheduling my dive. As far as I'm concerned, these people suck. What is convenient for them is what will happen. They clearly forget that you are a paying customer. I also have grave concerns over the lack of awareness for students the first time in open water. The ONLY reason they get two stars is because I liked the service I initially received ( when I was spending $500). When I spent several hundred dollars on a class, no one was concerned about my service. read more

The guys at Deep Six have a great selection of gear and if they don't have it in store they work hard to get it for you. My family has been shopping there since I was a little kid. Both my parents my little brother and I had taken the diver certification course and the instructors have a ton of patience and skills to work with anyone interested getting into the sport. Product selection is good; however, I've gone in the shop three times and the guy named John has been rude and condescending. He seems knowledgable but very unfriendly. I won't be going back to this dive shop. read more
