We had driven from Arizona for some cooler weather and had the hardest time simply finding a good spot for the kids to play and swim without needing to pay a fortune (We dont have to pay to swim in lakes in Arizona which I didn't know was a novelty??) We rented a cabin by Arrowhead lake and found out AFTER we got there that it is a private lake. We were told by locals that a great family lake was Lake Gregory which was about 20 minutes away. We drove to lake Gregory only to be told by park rangers that we cant swim in the lake unless we go to the designated family beach area and pay $10 per person (adults and children included) to use a small crowded beach area. That particular day I gave in and paid so my children could have some fun outside and in the water. I was determined to continue looking... FINALLY, I searched for rivers, streams and hiking nearby to get some peace and adventure and came across this little gem. Maybe we got lucky since it was in the middle of the week, but there were very few people on the trail, not to mention only one other family with kids at the swimming hole that my kids played with. The water was clean and cool, it was not crowded, there was ample shade and sandy beach areas...it was PERFECT. I would highly recommend this area for family use.

Best times to come fish are in the early AM before the sun rises. Lake is small and anglers can fill it up where you are elbow to elbow with fisherman . I was told row boats are $20 an hour , parking is along the street which goes around the lake. Definitely a spot to fish and hike if you don't feel like going all the way up big bear or if the weather conditions are too harsh going up big bear.

We flew from NorCal to on 1/7/17 with 3 adults and my 12 year old nephew, to visit Santa's Village. Though I remember stories about it, I never got to visit them before it had burned down. Until now.... All of us had a blast! The lines had thinned out from December so the longest line we waited in was about 20 min to ride the train. We got to have a private audience with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The elves took us as a family in to meet Santa, just by ourselves. I think the way they do this is really wonderful because it feels very personal and private. Every person on staff is AMAZING! Smiling, energetic, having fun, being extremely helpful, and stellar customer service. They made sure we knew what attractions were open, where to go, etc. The women's bathrooms were kept excellent and clean. We lucked out with no rain. We rode Arrow's Adventure. Ate a lovely meal at Gatherings which is a bit higher end and also quieter, and they were able to accommodate with vegetarian for one of us. We made candy cane reminders at Santa's Workshop. My 12 yr old nephew ice skated for the first time and climbed the Bouldering Room inside rock wall. We got to ride the Polar Express Train. We panned for crystals and gold. We played in the snow, throwing snowball fights - So fun! We shopped a little, played a little, ate a little and left filling that wonderful tired, content feeling when you had the most perfect day. Price Many others complain about the price but I think it was so worth it. This cannot be compared with Disneyland or Great America or Magic Mountain.... it's apples to oranges. What Santa's Village brings is MAGIC. I certainly empathize with those who are challenged with the price and hope you'll save even a few bucks per week to come. This is not a big corporation with unlimited funds; it's a small group of dedicated people, who not only invested millions to restore and re-imagine this place, they also, I can only imagine, gave their the blood, sweat and many tears to bring this dream into reality. The price of a ticket is not just an entry in for the day but an investment in creating something that is bigger and brighter for this world. Look around, the world needs more play, wonderment, curiosity, magic and kindness! You will find all of that at Santa's Village!! I'm looking forward to returning later in 2017 to experience the zip line as well as all of their hiking and biking trails... so grateful and wish I could shake the hands of all those involved for making this happen. There were surrounding trees so there's varying levels of shade throughout the day. There's a dumpster and recycling bin next to the campsite where you can throw trash and recyclable beverage containers. Bathrooms and grounds were kept clean by the nice camp host. Despite recent reviews, we decided we would chance it and stick with our reservations even with the mean lady camp host but she seems to have left the campground altogether and now it is only Jason camphosting. He was very nice and a funny guy to chat with! Craft's Peak Trail is a little less than 1 mile on the other side of the campground which is a nice moderate hike. The only downside were the yellowjackets! They would always come after us when food was out during the day. Our friends pup got stung by one. Cell service is very spotty. Perfect place to unplug from the grind!

She says that it's her day off and that the music on the campsite is not allowed. She was literally yelling at us and this was our first time speaking to this woman. Understandable to be mad if you this was our second warning but it was not. We did nothing wrong we just did not know. She came at us with intentions to fight and did not try to communicate with us. We told her that the other ranger told us that the music was fine. THEN she calls Joseph on speaker and starts getting mad at him and legit arguing with him in front of us. We literally tuned off the music and gave her what she wanted but she would not leave our spot. She said that she was gonna call the cops. But we were not fighting or arguing.... We gave her what she wanted. She said "if you get difficult I will have to start recording for my protection" CLASIC Karen move. The literal next day, our camp neighbors had music (in English) and she had not problem with it. We heard that music the whole day. But let it not be music in Spanish cause they she feels the need to record.... After this embarrassing interaction, both rangers actively avoided us.... We reserved the week and only spent 1 night. The spot was great, the staff not so much.

Park borders Green Valley Lake and the posh Lake Arrowhead Country Club offering vistas of luscious velvety greens (nurtured by reclaimed water thanks LACSD). Fastidious maintenance observed (on my visit). Dogs allowed to play and doggie bags are provided at no charge to keep all sanitary. Fishing allowed with license. Ducks, geese and many varieties of birds spotted and large groups of bright orange/white Koi.

My good fortune has been that I have been his invited guest, too many times to count, over the past seventeen or eighteen years. The best part of this is that I've met and made the acquaintance of many of the members who have been absolutely as nice as can be and are gracious to a fault. The club membership, I am told, is for the sole purpose of one thing: the pursuit of furthering the hobby and past time of sailing and encouraging all of the family to participate, including the "little ones." I have also been told that those folks seeking new membership who do not sail ... are not invited to join. Sailing IS very important here. All events at the club are planned or in concert with different sailing events, races, regattas, meets and "Invitationals." The members of LAYC remind me of close knit relatives. Mingling with them at the club as a guest, I get the feeling that I'm at a family reunion; there's a lot of obvious kinsmanship, brotherly love and spirited discussions that you'd find at family events. The club's kitchen always has really good food. They serve sit-down dinners as well as buffet meals. During the racing season, there are dinner parties every Saturday night that are absolutely the bomb. Several evenings during the week, the kitchen is also open to members. The club also has a sporty, full bar with TV's to watch sporting events and, as you can expect, beer, wine and cocktails flow freely when the club is open. LAYC is open basically between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Having said that, the club has a modified opening in the beginning of Springtime and a scaled back version of the club is still open through the early fall. Come winter, however, the club closes down, completely. My pal is a past Commodore of the club and has been the chairman of the race committee for many years. Races at the club are on Saturdays and Sundays. There are approximately eight fleets (different style sail boats) that race. That means that, usually, the Race Committee [which uses a pontoon boat and sets up at different points in the lake to start and finish races], has to start and finish eight fleets of boats per race. On Saturdays, there are two races (one on Sunday). Over the years, I have helped the Race Committee, usually being a backup scorer or once in a while handling flags and/or marker and lap-count placards with the close supervision and direction from those on the committee. It is a LOT of fun. Anyone reading this that spends time at Lake Arrowhead and is into sail boats, you are NUTS if you do not join the LAYC!

The best boating club in SoCal, period…read more Centered in the heard of the Lake Arrowhead Village, the Lake Arrowhead Yacht Club is as sophisticated as it is social. I remember spending many weekends here, learning all the different types of boats, learning how to tie knots, and also the theme parties I was too young to drink at. Some of my favorite parties were the ones with nautical toys and fishing nets all over the walls. I ALSO remember a group of "older kids" in their 20's (I was 8 at the time) who told me I needed to pull down all the streamers and crepe paper. My parents weren't too happy about that. The food was great here, and there are a lot of activities for kids while the parents enjoys adult time. Crafts, movies, and boat tours were commonly available.
