We stopped there on a recent trip to Deep Creek...usually rent tubes across the street, on the way in, but had a good experience with these folks the last time we went. Rented 12 tubes loaded them up. This business had replaced all of their tubes with new tubes since our last visit, and these were thinner material and more brightly colored. Thought it was odd when the young lady told us that if we have a popped tube to bring it back and exchange it. We have been tubing there for 10 years and never had a popped tube before. Headed off into rafting, and sure enough, we saw several people walking down the trail with popped tubes. Our first trip down, one of the adults hit a rock and popped a tube. The second trip down, our 7-year old hit a rock and the tube popped, throwing her into the water. Our 11 year old had to rescue her and walk her the rest of the way down the creek. 2 trips, 2 popped tubes. Clearly, the new tubes are not up to the task, but other than the advice to "bring 'em back for another tube," when they popped, there was no warning that these tubes popped often.
Once off the river we wanted to talk with the manager and arrange an "adjustment" to the rental, mostly for having shoddy equipment and not telling us about it. The woman in charge refused and said that we should be paying HER for popping her tubes. Clearly, this place knows there is a problem with their equipment and they don't charge people for the popped tubes, but they don't seem to care who gets injured or inconvenienced, either. We wanted them to take some responsibility, but they refused, so we are warning everyone else...don't rent from these people.
They know their equipment is bad, and pops, but they rent them anyway. Why am I giving them 2 stars, instead of 1 or none? Because the young lady on the front end was polite, and they really used to be better...here is hoping they care enough to replace their tubes with better equipment that is up to this creek and its rocks. read more
