Quote for the repair I didn't even need

I couldn't have imagined when I called a week and a half ago for a simple dryer vent cleaning that it would turn into such a mess. A very long story short, this company is at the very least misleading and incompetent and at the worst thieves. I am pretty certain that all of their good reviews are paid/robot reviews. This came out to clean my dryer vent at the home we had just purchased. It was supposed to be a one time cleaning of $89 but they (Matao) quickly told me upon their (late) arrival that it would be $600 (which I now know is WAY to much for even the most extensive dryer vent cleaning) they made me pay via cash/Zelle because their card machine was apparently down) because I needed a deeper cleaning. They ended up having to come out three times because each time they left, my vent was still clogged and my clothes were still not drying. I now know that it took them three visits because my dryer vent spans 30 feet and they were using a subpar tool that did not reach the full length of the vent to fully clean/unclog it. After the third visit, they told us that the vent must be damaged or crushed because (after finally bringing a longer tool) they were hitting something hard when trying to reach the other side with their rod. It would be $979 for them to cut into the sheet rock and repair the issue. The following day, a contractor came out to my house to get to work on some other projects we had planned for the home. I mentioned we were having dryer vent issues. Within 30 minutes, he had the dryer vent unclogged. It was not crushed or damaged after all but rather still had a MASSIVE clump of lint in (pictured)!!! Please help me to understand how "qualified" HVAC technicians that stole $600 from me and then misdiagnosed the problem and tried to charge me an additional $1000 couldn't clean the vent while a general contractor looked it over, rigged together some household materials lying around, and got it unclogged in minutes for essentially nothing! I'm so confused. All of this would have been fine and forgivable if the manager would've apologized but I had to go back and forth with them for a measly 100 refund when they essentially did nothing but argue back and forth about how they are justified in what they charge because they came three times and offer a lifetime warranty. But you didn't do the job! And not only that but you were going to charge me another ridiculous fee and cut into my sheet rock to repair something that didn't need fixing. UNBELIEVABLE. Would not recommend. It feels extremely suspicious and criminal. I could go on and on about other issues I had during this process but this is my attempt at a condensed version. Also note, they go by multiple names and have several numbers so be very careful! I will try to find all of their DBAs to prevent this from happening to others.

I negotiated a cash price of $350 down from $450. I do not live in Houston so they sent a…read moresubcontractor to do the work through a website called Thumbtack. Samual was supposed to be on site between Noon and 2pm. He called to say was running a little late and would be about an hour and 15 minutes. He finally showed at 4:30. He did not lay tarps, used a non filtering shop vac that layered our kitchen and living room in soot, nearly shattered a glass tabletop with the rods connected to the brush, although he was quite pleasant while doing all this. I posted a review on Thumbtack about Brushers Chimneys service and it wasn't long after that they called me. The woman asked if I would at least change my 2 star rating to 4 stars. I explained that I do honest reviews of both good and bad service. She then said that Brushers would refund our money in the form of a check and now would I change my review. I explained that she was actually trying to purchase my integrity which won't ever happen, although, once I received the check I would modify my review to reflect this exchange. That refund was promised in November 2025. This is 12/31/25 and as yet no check has arrived. This should be a warning about those who will attempt to buy you with bait. I will do my best to post my experience with as many media outlets as I can. I posted to Thumbtack and Google. I suggest anyone considering Brushers to read the NEGATIVE reviews. There are plenty of them. I read what their service offered on Thumbtack. Nothing of the sort happened in our home. I HIGHLY recommend STAYING AWAY from this company that won't clean your chimney as can be seen by my photos posted on Thumbtack but, they will clean out your wallet and not honor their word. This is an update: After making this post I was contacted by Brushers Chimney. After some discussion I was assured that a refund would be forthcoming. The refund arrived on 1/8/2026. I submitted it to my bank 1/9/2026. Verified check cleared 1/10/2026. On 1/9/2026 I received a call from Brushers as they noted I had deposited the refund which was for the amount I paid for their service. There was no additional money added for my lost time and the inconvenience of the mess left behind although, they did offer to have someone come to clean up the mess. Naturally, my wife and I had pretty much tackled that job which I reiterated in earlier conversations. I had no intentions of waiting while soot covered everything in our living room and kitchen. I admit I was less than pleasant with the young lady when I received a call asking me to remove my reviews of them on the platforms I posted on. I'm at this time adjusting my review from 1 to 3 stars only because they finally sent the refund after multiple postings. I still do not recommend their services since I was informed that the individual that serviced us is, in fact, one of their trained employees and literally less than half of what is on the website of the service to be performed was actually done. Earlier I stated he was a subcontractor based on what he told me and the fact that he initially bumped the price $50 then lowered it after we spoke.

Hi! I initially would have had really good things to say about Powerducts, but after two weeks and…read moretelling people about my service, I've learned I was charged exorbitantly, and not given good service, especially in regards to the cleanup and the professionalism. Jonathan was very personable, and helped me out in regards to cleaning my chimney. Classic salesman -- I trusted him right away. he charged me $300 to clean the chimney and dryer duct, and then when I told him about my air conditioner ducts he said he could clean those too. He charged me $2500 to clean the ducts and the furnace, install a UV light, and clean and disinfect the air exchanges. So he was at my house for about 8 hours, two of which were assessing chimney and vent and cleaning them. That does include a UV light, which retails for about $100, so if we say it was $2500 for labor, thats about $180/hr for labor. (he brought another guy on to clean the ducts, so it was about 14 hr of labor total) Again -- I was an idiot, I made a really expensive and emotional decision because I was worried about the ducts and the vents (which had some kind of black something or other sticking to them) The money obviously pissed off my wife, but what really pissed her off was that he didn't clean up after himself, he left our house messy, and then told us we should hire a maid to deep clean. Now, that might be true, but it still felt weird for the service guy to not do a great job of cleaning up and tell us to hire a maid, especially after I paid him $3000 all in with tax. Other downsides: - he used a lot of our paper towels -- it was weird that he didn't bring cleaning up supplies - he was cleaning a return box, and was using water, but got it all over one of our rugs and left a huge stain in it, then told us it wasn't a big deal because it was water. -he promised to send me videos to show me before and after, and never did. the only things I will say is that he did do the minimum: the ducts are clean, the air does smell better, the uv light does work, and the chimney and dry vent are also clean. tldr: Powerducts cleaned my vents but ripped me off price wise (I was the idiot that didn't get quotes) then didn't clean up after themselves, used a lot of my cleaning supplies, stained one of my rugs, then told my wife to hire a maid. Nice, but weirdly rude and thoughtless about the way they left our house.

The technician's treatment was a very serious and friendly man. Apart from that, they cleaned my chimney and gave me the gift of cleaning the dryer vent I feel much better about my allergies and the air inside the house can feel the difference. As for the prices, the work was great and the house is big and it was too dirty so it seemed like a great investment to me, taking into account that we are in a season of extreme heat and the gentlemen have to work from the attic at extreme temperatures, I really recommend them.
