Lion Tours - A great time touring Stonehenge and the Bath area.

    Lion Tours

Preface: A couple of the one-star reviews on Google were very unfair to Lion Tours. One of the…read morereviewers clearly never went on the tour (writing on behalf of others) and the other reviewer was merely repeating the former reviewer's review. It seems that the only person "lacking variety" is the latter reviewer. I usually don't call out other reviewers but something had to be said before someone stepped on either of these landmines. Now, on with the review. Paul was the greatest tour guide in the history of tour guides... maybe ever. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the surrounding area and we were completely blown away by his attention to detail. Did you know that Thomas the Tank Engine was conceived on this route? Wild! Paul knew. He also accompanied us to Stonehenge itself and gave us an in-person walk-through of the site, which I hear the competition doesn't do. The other tours just drop you off and wait in the cafe for you to be done. A bit impersonal if you ask me. Paul even keeps spare rain jackets in case you didn't bring one to the Henge. What a saint. Need recommendations for what to do in Bath? Surprise, Paul's got them. If the other tours are Bieber and Swift albums, then Lion Tours would have to be Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill, an absolute classic. Would book again!

We toured Stonehenge, Avebury, Lalock and Castle Combe. Paul was knowledgeable about the area and…read moreprovided us a unique and personal experience. He provided a special tour in Castle Combe that others could not show! We had a great day and recommend this tour

Oxburgh Hall / National Trust - Near the entry gates/walkway to the hall

    Oxburgh Hall / National Trust

Oxburgh Hall is a place that shouldn't be missed when visiting the area. It sits within a moat and…read moreis a great example of English brick gatehouses of the 15th century. It was originally built circa 1482 by Sir Edmund Bedingfeld and has been continuously occupied by the family ever since. There have been several upgrades as well over the years...centuries. There are Victorian additions that were added later in the 1800's like the terracotta chimneys and windows along with amazing gardens to name a few. It has always been used as a home, and not a fortress. The home has seen the War of the Roses, survived a fire and near demolition prospects and still stands. It is truly an amazing place to visit and I'm happy it's under the care of the National Trust. The hall is known for its "Priest hole". In the event of a raid a priest could hide in the wall and couldn't be found. This is open to the public, whereas most like it are closed. That makes this is a fantastic historical opportunity alone. I must say, it is a little unsettling to go into the hole and you definitely get the idea of how the priest must have felt. The home is also known for the needlework on display by Mary, Queen of Scots while imprisoned in England and Bess of Hardwick. You can also tour the Kings Room where King Henri VIII stayed when visiting. Photos are not allowed inside...darn it, but you are welcome to take pictures of the grounds and such. You can obtain books and postcards in the gift shop. This review was overdue and I simply can't believe that I didn't finish it. But I'm even more surprised that no one else has reviewed this place when it is so extraordinary. It shouldn't be missed if you are in the area. If you are a history buff like us, then you'll truly enjoy it. Gee Whiz info...the name is pronounced: "OX bru" Note: I also recommend becoming a member of the National Trust. They do great things and keep history alive. Whether you are from or live in the UK or just visiting from outside the country...it's well worth it and goes to a great cause...it's a win/win for all!

Prior to the trip, Lucy was so helpful navigating my train ride from London with the strikes and bridge closures. We did the Ultimate Cotswolds Tour (8 hrs) and loved it. The tour was seamless and every little detail was thought out including little maps at each village and even taking us to an extra spot because we had a little extra time. Richard is an excellent driver which is crucial navigating the backroads!

Right from the get go Lucy was very helpful in getting our trip booked. She opened up a tour as they didn't have one scheduled. We were met by Richard in front of our hotel promptly at our meeting time. We had a total in our group of 7 people and fit perfectly in their comfortable van. Richard used a microphone in the van so that we all could hear his narrative. He was very insightful and knowledgeable of the area and was able to answer all of our questions. We had ample time at each stop and he even walked along a bit and offered to take pictures at all the key photo spots. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the tour if you happen to be in The Cotswolds on vacation or a day trip from London.

What does that mean? When signing up for one of Caspin Jourenys' tours, prepare to see parts of the UK or Italy that you never thought you'd see before. Caspin gives you a much more down to earth, local, countryside view of the cities and towns on their tours. Many days consist of 3-6 mile hikes between towns, stopping at many of the best local restaurants and visiting unique sights, all with the knowledge of Pino and Caroline. You'll stay at the finest hotels, drink great local wine, and not have to worry about your luggage! Pino and Caroline have meticulously researched all their tours. They know the right room for you to stay in at the hotel. They know the restaurants with the best food and service. They know the best activities to do in the towns. They know the best shops to go to. All so you can have the trip of a lifetime. My family and I went and did their Tuscany and Cinque Terre tour this September. The Cinque Terre is known for being able to hike between all the beautiful Mediterranean towns. However at this moment, the first two hikes are closed due to mud slides and safety. "Fear not!" Caroline shouts in her English accent. "We are still going to be able to hike most of it by taking some lesser known routes." Not only did we hike 11 miles that day and accomplished something most people only dream of (if they even know this place exists!), we saw some of the most amazing views God has put on this earth. If you are the type of person that doesn't want the cookie-cutter tour of Europe, then go to Caspin Journeys. My family has done 4 tours with them now, each one just as unique and fulfilling. I'm more than happy to share other stories...feel free to message me. Thank you Pino and Caroline!
