My husband and I stopped in to get an ice cream to share. We got a scoop of the mango ice cream in a cup ($3.75 taxes in). It was creamy and full of real mango flavour. It did not taste artificial. They had a London Fog flavour, which I would have loved to try, but hubby doesn't like tea-flavoured things and we had been stuffing our faces all day, so I didn't want to get my own ice cream, but maybe on our next trip back to Halifax :) They also sell burritos, quesadillas, and other food, and coffee/tea. There's not too much seating in the place, but you can eat in. There's also free WiFi with the password on the wall.

Their burger week burger of 2019. I give it a 2/5

I like Dee Dee's a lot. Almost love. I find their food, aside from the burger week burger, consistently good. Not mind blowing but good. Their ice cream is what it's all about and worth going there for. It's in a prime location worth indoor and outdoor seating. Basically it's a good, local food cafe. Nothing stands out about it but I've never seen quality go downhill either. That's why it's the most solid 3/3 I can give. Burger Week burger - The Spicy Black Bean Sweet Potato Burger from Dee Dee's Ice Cream. What should be a $5 burger is $8. Even then, I wouldn't buy it twice. The spice is about a medium and the burger is lacking in size and flavour overall. I'd give it a 2/5. However I love Dee Dee's so head there for just about anything else!

It seems Tara and I like to frequent the joints in the North End that offer caffeine. Dee Dee's is no exception. They have a full espresso bar and offer the most amazing Affogatto (their house made gelato of your choice with espresso on top). What I can't believe is that I've been here at least once a month for the last year and I still have yet to sample a burrito (which is hilariously the other thing Dee Dee's is known for besides their gelato). Recently they also added grilled cheese sandwiches (made with old cheddar and bacon jam), soups and vegetarian chili to the menu. All of which sound just as appealing as they smell when you're sipping your coffee. They don't have a whole lot of seating room for dining in, and they will happily make up your food or drink for you take to run, but the staff at DeeDee's are pleasant and sweet and enjoy some fun tunes if you're hanging out for a bit. Until I get to try the good eats on the menu, I will rave about the coffee and espresso selections and definitely recommend the gelato. If you go, do me a favor and tell me how good the food is? Maybe it will inspire me to branch out...

Caramel swirl ice cream + a homemade wafflecone. Heaven.

When Dee Dee's moved into my neighbourhood, I knew I was in trouble. Having delicious, homemade ice cream next door was going to be a problem. What I didn't know then was that they also serve amazing burritos, soups, chili, and whip up great hot (and cold) drinks. This shop kept me well-fed throughout the winter with their HUGE burritos (I go for the veggie with the works--it's often enough for two people) and are now keeping me cool in the summertime with their pretty darn amazing ice cream. I've also been known to stop by to pick up a waffle cone for 50 cents. It's delicious enough to enjoy on its own. The staff who work at Dee Dee's also make it special. They are The Nicest People in Halifax™. They brighten up my day every time I go in and always offer free samples of ice cream (that is how I came to try the weirdly good Curry Cashew flavour). I look forward to spending a lot of time this summer surveying their list of flavours, gaining considerable weight, and talking about goings-on around town.

Oh my, I want to live in the north end. I want to join the hipsters, lounging around in view of the Commons' fountain as they chow down on the burritos whose scent carried me up Cornwallis Street. I loved everything about my trip to Dee Dee's and wished I'd had room to sample a burrito in addition to my ice cream. The store itself is fairly small, with a few stools inside and a few tables outside. I love that the kitchen is completely visible - transparency at food places always warms my heart. I had trouble deciding on ice cream flavours (so many temptations!) and asked the woman behind the counter for help. She immediately dug out samples with their little metal spoons so that I could try both. Kudos on the reusable cutlery and dishes! I ended up with a waffle cone of both flavours I tried (Mexican chocolate and ginger-lemon). The ginger-lemon was wonderful - refreshing on a sunny summer day in Hali. The Mexican chocolate satisfied my chocolate craving and provided a nice kick similar to that of the ginger. I was surprised that the flavours were so intense, because the ice cream was also very creamy, which tends to mute flavour. People with peanut allergies can relax. Despite a sign on the freezer case, I was told that they have no peanuts in the store. Another major bonus is that there was tons of free, on-street parking in the middle of the day.

Dee Dee's is a nice local North End Halifax spot that has two things I really love Burritos and Ice Cream. It is located on the Corner of Cornwallis St and Bauer St in a lovely old historic storefront. It really does feel like you have stepped back in time when you enter the spot, very reminiscent of a 1940's diner/ice cream parlour. Imagine that it just happens to be a bit of an ice cream parlour. The ice cream is homemade and the burritos are delicious, plus they even have some vegan options. Plus an outdoor seating area and bike parking. If you feel like having a picnic the Halifax commons are a short walk across the street or even better walk up Citadel Hill and picnic with views of the city. Plus the staff is always smiling.

It didn't take me long to decide what I wanted bc I saw the word s'mores so it's no contest for me after that lol! I got the Gimme S'mores fog cup which has their signature creamy soft serve mixed with graham crackers and chocolate sauce, and topped with toasted marshmallow merengue and their giant cloud of fog cotton candy!! If I was a kid, I'm sure I would've eaten the entire thing haha!! It was delicious but insanely sweet as you can imagine. I could only manage a couple of nibbles on the cotton candy - it had a great flavor but is just straight sugar so I couldn't handle more lol. But the rest went down too easy and was a fun choice. My hubby wasn't feeling as childish as me and just went with a little scoop of his go-to mint chocolate chip topped with chocolate sauce - excellent flavor and texture in this one as well and the small scoop was just right. If you're not feeling the ice cream, they also offer cookies and donuts - ample choices of flavors and they looked fabulous as well. The shop is sleek and clean with benches inside and some whimsical patio seating outside to take advantage of their harbor views. Prices are reasonable given the quality and portions. Staff were very friendly. Location is excellent - right along Halifax's popular Harborwalk. Very easy to get to as a pedestrian and tourist but I imagine driving here would be a nightmare bc parking is difficult in Halifax imo and there's so much construction going on at the moment.

They have all the classics from Boston crème, raspberry filled, apple fritter, lemon curd, and maple bacon. The Doughnut Stand also brings an exciting and changing selection of new fusion style doughnuts. So far I've seen Crème egg and mini egg doughnuts for Easter, peanut butter Captain Crunch, carrot cake doughnut, Jalapeño bacon cheddar, and chocolate cherry fritter. You won't find that extreme variety and experimentation anywhere else! Fluffy, light, airly, fresh, and full of flavour I love their doughnuts. To help beat the heat of summer The Doughnut Stand also just released a menu of homemade frozen treats. Popsicles, chocolate dipped bars, and even doughnut ice cream sandwiches filled with Dee Dee's own ice creams. Yes! You heard right, doughnut ice cream sandwiches! The Doughnut Stand is open on Saturdays for the market and other select dates they post on their Facebook pages. Still being new to Dartmouth and always looking for a yummy ice cream I was taken to what is called the Funky Monkey Ice Hut. Funky Monkey Ice Hut is located on the side of the store and in the summertime is packed. It actually looks like a coconut hut that is the home to the largest ice cream this side of the bridge that I have found. Normally when I go I am a regular chocolate girl the odd time if they are out which shocks me that an ice cream location runs out of a staple flavor like chocolate. Oh well this is an opportunity to try one of the many other flavours. Tropical treasure is TO DIE FOR but they do not get it in often but I keep requesting it. That is my first choice now but normally have to revert to chocolate as it is never in. Waffle cones as well as regular cones give you the choice as well as a cup. But seriously ice cream always tastes better in a cone. Now they are not open right now as I just called and they told me that they might be open at the end of the month (May) but they will for sure be open for June. I told them summer is coming get to it! Great prices and large cones will wet your lips this summer. Enjoy one of the tables in the parking lot if you can get a seat.
