We had mostly amazing experiences with Junkluggers for 4 separate cleanouts of a family home with…read more30+ years worth of stuff. The guys even frequently stopped to admire items and would ask if they could keep little trinkets. The crews worked really hard and will hustle to get the job done. They also do a great job of saving photos and items that look like heirlooms. We felt most crews were respectful and even offered tips on how to repair or sell stuff. If not for what went wrong below, we would have had consistently 5-STAR experiences.
Where things took a turn was in the last cleanout, a large crew came to clear the rest of the home. Unlike prior crews that took great care in bagging up items and carefully disassembling furniture, this crew kept breaking perfectly good dishes, glassware, vases, books, figurines, antique sculptures, furniture, artwork, wood-framed mirrors, and more. They would toss bags across the room and I would hear entire bags of glass shatter. About half of these items were smashed to smithereens and definitely not making it to new homes. A mahogany table, several chairs, and solid wood bookshelves were also extremely damaged from how they were being moved around and stacked.
A primary reason we hired Junkluggers over competitors was for their eco-friendly mission to donate and recycle items! The stuff that was left in the last round included complete china sets now smashed to bits, newly released books that were thrown in with cleaning supplies, perfectly intact art pieces now ripped, branded glassware still in original boxes, etc. Had we known that they would treat this round like this, like rotting garbage, we would have waited and made an effort to offer these items and furniture to family, friends, neighbors, charities, and local groups.
It broke my heart watching nice things get destroyed, even though this stuff did not belong to my immediate family. I did get frustrated enough to ask why they kept breaking everything, and the guys just shrugged and said they were running out of time. While they met their commitment of clearing the home, I would think twice before hiring them again, as the degree to which they treat items seems to vary and did not leave me feeling confident that most of it will be donated or recycled.
