I literally checked the store hours before heading over, a 17 minute ride to go to a closed store. Google search which is fast and reliable. They were dependable and reliable up until now. They are the only establishment under 30 minutes from my home that sells what I needed. Item is reasonably priced even though more expensive than Home Depot. Here again, giving my business to them!! These hardware stores are closing due to these competitors, yet they have no concern for the folks who chose them over the big box stores. Why would you go from convenient hours of 8a-6p for people who work. NOW, they are open weekdays for people who don't work!!! 9-5 known business hours yet they will be open for those who: a. Live local b. Work local c. People who don't work. I do not have the time to wait until Saturday for my need. I can order it in line and get it by Friday! Their website says "give us a call" number says person not available and beeps! So is that your number or is it not? Guessing games not my thing. This is the reason these types of stores are closing.

The prices are higher than a big box store but comparable to other local nurseries. And the staff has always been helpful and friendly when I have questions.

There were half a dozen or so smaller snake plants available, several of them showing new growth already! They were $10; I feel like that's exactly what I was expecting/hoping to pay. When I was cashing out, the person in front of me was buying a bouquet of flowers. The employee at the register softly inquired if they were for any special occasion. Come to find out they were a surprise for his wife "just because"; the employee then wrapped them up in such a pretty, thoughtful way (and I don't think he was charged for it). Now, my handyman abilities are pretty limited. I might be able to drill a few holes and hammer a few nails, but don't ask me to lift any lumber or install vents or pipes... Having said that, I feel that a lot of the items here are non-intimidating and accessible for casual work. But there are also many stocked aisles with all sorts of stuff I would never know what to do with. In sum, this place seems to have a bit of everything despite not being a hangar-sized warehouse of crap. Maybe I've just been ensconced in the Midwest faux-charm for so long, but the people here are so friendly! I'd never get this kind of attention and friendliness in Chicago. I've gone in and watched how male shoppers are treated and it's a whole different thing. If you bring it to the cashiers attention in hopes she will let management know and make a change that fits with this decade, you hear, they're just trying to be gentlemen, hun. If you're a woman that is capable and isn't a damsel in distress, you shouldn't go there. It's an absurd and incredibly upsetting experience.

We typically got to the Paint desk and that person has to radio for help. We wish the online product information for the local store stock was more accurate, but I know that may be hard to track in real time. It's very clear that the staff there are all genuinely passionate and knowledgeable about woodworking. I love that they always ask, "What project are you working on?" Maybe it's a just savvy sales technique, but it always comes across as genuine curiosity. The store has everything from an incredible selection of hardware, much of which you can't find anywhere else, to all sorts of exotic woods, to multi-thousand dollar power tools. Things I like about the Brighton location: 1. It's always less busy than the other location. 2. The parking lot is less chaotic as a result. 3. When "the mall" location is out of something specific (like the white ceramic allen + roth indoor planter I'd like ALL my flora friends to be in), Brighton usually has it. 4. I don't know if they're actually smaller than "the mall" location, but they've got an impressive selection of outdoor plants (flowers, herbs, veggies) in Spring/Summer. 5. I think the staff here is nicer. Things I like about both locations: 1. Using the outside register. Things I don't like about either locations: 1. They're horrible inside registers (both the self check-out and the ones with people). Things I like about Lowe's in general: I think Lowe's as a corporate brand does a good job at seasonality. Unlike Walmart, the Dollar Tree, and even Target who, for example, have their back-to-school stuff up by early July and have already transitioned completely away from anything summer/patio/gardening, Lowe's doesn't.
