Let me start by admitting that, to me, this Lowe's and this Lowe's (https://www.yelp.com/biz/lowes-home-improvement-portland) are nearly the same place - in layout, in availability, in staff, etc.. And, if I go to one, I usually end up going to the other immediately afterward to see if they have what I was looking for if the other didn't, so I think I've done this mash-up to myself. Things I like about the Brighton location: 1. It's always less busy than the other location. 2. The parking lot is less chaotic as a result. 3. When "the mall" location is out of something specific (like the white ceramic allen + roth indoor planter I'd like ALL my flora friends to be in), Brighton usually has it. 4. I don't know if they're actually smaller than "the mall" location, but they've got an impressive selection of outdoor plants (flowers, herbs, veggies) in Spring/Summer. 5. I think the staff here is nicer. Things I like about both locations: 1. Using the outside register. Things I don't like about either locations: 1. They're horrible inside registers (both the self check-out and the ones with people). Things I like about Lowe's in general: I think Lowe's as a corporate brand does a good job at seasonality. Unlike Walmart, the Dollar Tree, and even Target who, for example, have their back-to-school stuff up by early July and have already transitioned completely away from anything summer/patio/gardening, Lowe's doesn't. The very lovely woman at the exit asked us if we found everything ok and I thanked her for asking and for saying hello... very very disappointed... could have been a decent sale but I guess they don't need it. We ordered online and the order was fulfilled through this store. Of the $300 spent all that was received was one can of spar urethane. We contacted the store weekly for updates and information on a refund since we had purchased the items from another store. Every single time we were told we would be called back no one reached out. Not to mention being told something different about what the issue was and who would we would need to connect with each time. I spoke with store manager Shawn Harris and was supposedly going to be contacted by their operations manager Mike (this is what I was told by their supervisor Quade). I hate to leave online reviews but after being ghosted for two months I'm not sure where to turn. Perhaps corporate or someone from the store will see this and FINALLY reach out. worst experience i have ever had. I delayed delivery 3 months due to construction delays for appliances I bought. Tiffany was horrible to deal with and told me she would cancel my order in a week, I called back next and she had already cancelled it. Spoke to the Asst manager Eric, and he was a complete rude a hole. I told him I wanted to buy the appliances and he refused to reinstate my order for the same price. He refused to help me in any way and I wanted to spend $4500. I have never dealt with 2 people (Eric and Tiffany) with this horrible of customer service skills. They should not work with the public----ever! My husband called the Pro desk and Larry was fabulous! He reinstated my order and apologized. I will never deal with the retail side again! They lie and yell and argue with you. Go figure??!! You're just trying to spend money with Lowe's. Lowe's mgmt: you need to fire Tiffany and Eric, and make Larry the store manager. I went to the Lowes in Scarborough and the employees were unhelpful and borderline rude. I decided to go and see if the Brighton location was any better, and thank goodness I did. Where Scarborough wouldn't help me place a $3k order for a fence, Matt at the Brighton Ave location was friendly, helpful, and even pulled some strings to get the supplies delivered a day earlier than expected. I went to the Portland Lowes to return a damaged screen slider I had bought the night before in Auburn Lowes. The return was easy, customer service told me to go down to screens and doors and ask Joe to help me get a new one. Joe was not helpful. He cut me off when I told him what I was looking for and said they were out of stock. I told him the website said there were 5 in stock. That's why I was there and not back at the Auburn store. The young man sitting at the desk with him popped up, took me to the screens, smiled, joked, pulled out the slider, rang it up and got me a cart to take it to the car. Joe never left his seat. Very disappointed in the overall experience. I was promised a delivery time for them only to change it to the exact opposite delivery time. I had asked to speak to a manager to see if there's anything they can be done and of course the phone call was ignored. This May [2022] I tried to swap out the cartridge for an old leaking Delta bathroom faucet and ended up cracking it. My bathroom is quite original to the house which was built in 1947. The good thing about this is that the house hasn't been "remuddled." One of the bad things is that I don't have any shutoffs under the bathroom sink and the pipes were too big (2.25" outside diameter) for me to buy inexpensive tools and install shutoffs myself. I have plans to gut-remodel the bathroom soon, but the cracked faucet had to be dealt with first. Because the faucet wouldn't stop running, I was having to turn the water on at the main in the cellar (thank heaven that it's not outside!) for brief periods when I needed to use it. I emailed and called a plumbing company that I'd successfully worked with in the past but received no response. That was very disappointing but I've come across that behavior frequently with tradespeople. I would have appreciated a short email or voicemail that said something like: "Sorry, we're swamped; please reach out to another vendor." I don't know why that's so hard for people to do. So I went to Portland (Maine) Lowe's and bought the most inexpensive faucet that they had, a single-handle Project Source faucet ($36.91 with tax) because I hope to do the long‑pending bathroom remodel this spring or summer. While checking out, Renee at the register asked me if I wanted to have it installed. I didn't know that Lowe's would install that small a piece of hardware. She gave me the price; I asked if I could think about it. She said yes, go to the customer service desk if you decide you want installation. The next day I decided yes. I went to Lowe's customer service desk. They were great. Two people helped me. The first employee was Dawn who said the installation request has to be processed at the time of payment for the item. She came up with a simple workaround which was to process a return and resell the faucet to me. I thought that approach was creative and practical. Because Lowe's was very busy that day, a young male rep (David Grondin) took over. As he was booking the installation, he asked if I wanted to have shutoffs installed as well. I was so thrilled - I had no idea they offered that service. I said YES! I figured that if the old faucet issue was a total disaster requiring major work, the newly installed shutoffs would allow me to run my washer, kitchen sink, dishwasher and shower. Living without well‑working plumbing is like living in the Middle Ages - not fun. Handy.com coordinates the installation for Lowe's and the tradespeople. They promptly emailed me and texted me with the appointment date and window (12-3PM). They gave me the plumber's contact info. Steve Punski was the plumber. We connected. He came with his assistant Jeremy Henderson in the appointment window as agreed. They were great! It turned out that my water pipes were original to the bathroom, and were made of brass. Because of the larger diameter, the Sharkbite shutoffs would not fit so they had to lay new copper pipe. Deinstalling the old faucet took a lot of patient work by Jeremy in a tight space (my bathroom is 7' x 7'); the vanity is by the entrance to the bathroom which opens onto a tiny vestibule. To get the old faucet fixings off, he had to lay on the floor with his legs extending into the vestibule, onto the large forced‑air metal heating grate. I'm sure it wasn't comfortable but he didn't complain at all. As I said, the Project Source faucet I bought was the most inexpensive I could find. But it moves smoothly and works well, and the size of it fits the sink well (good scale). I like it even though it will be replaced by a wall‑hung faucet when the bathroom remodel is done. The original downpipe setup including the drain assembly was old and not reusable so Steve went and bought parts. He bought a new one with an electric blue drain. The color is so unexpected; I love looking at it, especially in the morning. The initial cost for the faucet and faucet and shutoff installation was $271.88; there was an $80 charge for extra parts needed. Steve and Jeremy were great and I felt entirely comfortable with them in my house. We chatted a bit during the work and I enjoyed it. I am very much a DIYer, but this repair was definitely beyond my skillset. I'm very glad that Lowe's offers the installation service through Handy.com. All the Lowe's service desk people were courteous and helpful, including Tiarra who told me that I could post a review for work contracted by Lowe's to Handy.com/Steve Punski's firm. I don't know where I'd be if Renee hadn't made the installation offer - maybe still living in the Middle Ages (UGH) and looking for a plumber. I'm very grateful to Steve and Jeremy for their work. They were great. It's so nice to be back to normal, being able to shower without turning the water main on and off. read more

Overall what makes Lowe's better than Home Depot is the staff. They will look you in the eye and ask if you a have a question. They might not know what you want to do or how to do it, but they will at least get you in the right aisle with the products you are looking for. But price wise I have never noticed a huge different between either of the big corporate stores. This store is pretty well labeled to find most things and I have always met pretty nice staff even when I have a stupid question. A couple of times I have gotten stupid answers, but for the most part they have helped me with my issue. The shopping center is fine. There is no other big draw to the area now that they lost Full Belly Deli. If Lowe's was smart they should have made sure they stuck around there but I digress. If you need a big box home improvement store this is the first place one I go to. read more

I had shopped at Lowe's one Home Depot for some time, however I will never shop at a Lowe's again. Beyond the employees and manager not being able to help, or even contact the credit card center (Synchrony Bank), I was at the store for over 2 hours trying to make a purchase. I've had many experiences at Lowe's, primarily 'meh' to 'satisfactory', but have been incredibly turned off and frustrated by our most recent purchase. - Bought a stacking washer and dryer, got a good deal, the rep in the area was helpful. Told him repeatedly that we'd need them to stack and reminded him when he went to get the items ready on the invoice that we needed a stacking kit. Was given a delivery date of about a month out for a Sunday but are told we'll be contacted a week or so in advance to confirm. - The date we'd chosen nears and a day or two before I call to see if that date stands as we hadn't been contacted, saying explicitly I'm calling to check on when the appliances I ordered will be delivered. The person on the phone is surprisingly huffy - first he has trouble finding my order by phone number, acting like the order just doesn't exist, and when he finds it via last name, he then acts like he doesn't understand why I'm calling. I finally said "Was I supposed to call YOU to confirm the delivery? Because I was told to expect a call." and his tone kind of turns around. He confirms we're on for the day originally set. - The NEXT DAY we are called and told "We don't do deliveries on Sundays" and are given a new delivery day another 2 weeks out. Now we're expecting to get them 6 weeks after we bought the darn things, and talked to TWO individuals who should have known that a Sunday date should not be scheduled to begin with. - Husband takes time off work to wait at our place for the delivery. They never come. He calls to check as the window we were told to expect them is closing and the dispatcher tries to say they were already there and we weren't - husband was there THE ENTIRE TIME and they never came. Super slimy of them to attempt to make it our fault. We're given yet another delivery day, another week out. - That day is today. They arrive without the stacking kit. We now see that of the 6 or so items on the receipt, they all appear to be cords or accessories but not the kit. We are hoping to get this sorted out today so that we don't get delayed yet again. Needless to say, we are beyond worn out by this ridiculous process which has been riddled with errors and a totally unapologetic and misleading stance the entire way by Lowes. Lowe's employees would benefit greatly from further training with taking and transferring calls and working on customer service & accountability. 99% of the time when I call to order an appliance I get bounced back & forth between the pro desk, appliance department, and whoever randomly answers the phones in the interim. Seems like nobody wants to take 5 minutes or less to place an order. I order appliances almost weekly under a pro account & experience difficulty every time. The one exception is Tom at the Pro Desk. Lowe's in Portland, ME has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my entire life (and that's saying a lot). I want to warn potential customers that they deliberately leave out pertinent information just to make a sale. When a 60-year-old woman purchases flooring for her kitchen and bathroom, it would be EXTREMELY RELEVANT to tell that 60-year-old woman that she'll need to move the toilet in the bathroom herself so she doesn't find out just days before the installer is supposed to arrive. They were certain to tell me about moving the appliances in the kitchen, but NEVER even mentioned the toilet. First, Lowe's charged me the day I signed the contract (which doesn't state that I would need to move the toilet myself), even though all of the materials weren't available. I had to call at least 10 times before they finally delivered the materials 3 weeks later. Then after waiting a week for the installer to contact me to arrange a day for the installation, I finally had to call them myself because Lowe's couldn't be bothered. They already had my money so they didn't have to treat me respectfully any longer. When I purchased the materials and installation, I specifically asked the salesperson (Kyle) how far out was the installer scheduling. He replied, "A couple of days." My appt was finally scheduled for TWO MONTHS after my purchase. Had I not opted for text message updates from the installer, I never would have known that I was responsible for moving the toilet myself. They mentioned it in a text message, and it's a good thing I actually read it, even though I was just expecting a confirmation of the appt. Needless to say, I will never purchase so much as a thumbtack from Lowe's ever again, and all potential customers should BEWARE so this same crap doesn't happen to them. Lowe's will screw you over in any way they can just to get money from you, and they'll treat you like a stray dog after they have your money. I'm sorry, that's incorrect. Horrible customer service. I went in with my friend to buy some gift cards when we were followed around by the morbidly obese, malodorous general manager. We initially tried to check out at one register which she barked at us was closing and directed us to another. We were in the middle of checking out with the clerk (who had no problem with our race or method of payment) when i smelled a foul odor and realized that this beastly woman was standing over me. She started asking about what my transaction was, which i took as insanely aggressive, and at that point i decided i was not going to drop 100 dollars in that disgusting store. i told the clerk to cancel my transaction and i told her i would take my money elsewhere. I dont know what her name was but she needs a class in customer service, racial profiling (we are latino and she took an interest in us the entire time we were in the store), and just bathing in general (so serious about the smell not trying to be rude). read more
